So there you are Bru, the Peter Mandelson of 606. Still won't prevent Schiz, Mr Fusaro and the gelding shears turning up at your door on a midnight dreary.

Yeah, I've met him a few times - bit of a pr!ck, it has to be said. Strange sense of humor, unjustifiable sense of self-worth, and utterly misogynistic. Quite a natty dresser though, and he used to be great on the Nintendo64.George Carlin wrote:Sheesh - who is this media lady of loose morals who keeps being retweeted on the GW website?:Ian MacGilp@IanMacGilp · Apr 17

All these Glasgow fans suddenly wishing Edinburgh well!! It just feels odd, rather like Cameron describing the Tories as the party of working people the other day.

I feel very sorry that as an ex-pat I can no longer vote for 4 more years of either Dave's large shiny face or Ed's lisping pile of mince.

Nobody really gets my vote:
Greens - Just useless; believe they can raise £1bn from charging £1 for a plastic bag.
SNP - Businesses and people don't need the worry of a referendum every 5 years.
Tories - Tax breaks for millionaires not needed
Labour - Bit weak and unconvincing e.g. Ed Balls
Lib Dems - Tuition fees
UKIP - Want less money for Scotland for a start
Might just vote for the MRLP.

My constituency is a straight shoot out between the Scottish Nazi Party and Labour. Jim Murphy supports Celtic, so I'm going to abstain.

On a completely different non-political theme slightly glad Leinster lost today. I'm already going down for the ECC final to cheer on Edinburgh, if Leinster had won I'd have been tempted to go to the final as well, and another few hundred quid.

The downside is that I had hoped Leinster would be in the final so that they would take their eye off the ball on the final game of the Pro12. We'll need to win that game for 6th I suspect.

Leinster are 8 points off 4th place - I don't think they're going to have anything to play for anyway!

Perhaps, but with an EC final they may have rested some of their better players.

Burleigh is keen for more gametime at 10 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/32371559
Have to say after his display on Friday night I think he's certainly earned another shot, although that would mean continuing with a certain Mr Strauss at 12, which is about as appealing a prospect as a long weekend in Dunfermline

Burleigh really has been a superb signing - he started off slowly (like all SR imports do) but has now become an invaluable player for the team.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread VII
In the absence of a consistently good 10 and on the assumption that we are not getting one of the Weegie's 14 stand-off's, I think we should persevere with Burleigh. I would prefer Tonks at FB.
On balance, I think a 10-Burleigh and 15-Tonks option is preferable to a 10-Tonks and 15-Cuthbert combo.
It does highlight, though, that I think we need to recruit a SQ 10 in the summer.
Out of interest, what is the final benefit of reaching the cup final. The stories at the time were about a £1m windfall after reaching the HC semi. That would pay for a good player

It was a 2 million windfall from memory!
You get half the gate money from all the knock out rounds I think, so given we got 38k at Murrayfield and 50k at the Aviva I suspect our income won't be boosted nearly as much!
Also, all winnings from Edinburgh and Glasgow are split evenly - Glasgow benefited financially from our HK run as much as we did!

I reckon Edinburgh should sign Lee Millar from LS.
He won't be too expensive and seems a good prospect.

RDW - I had forgotten that prize money was for the "common good" but I suppose the unwashed must have earned a few quid with their Pro12 exploits
A good shout at Lee Millar, 'tode but, as is usual when we all start hyper-ventilating about who we should sign, we do have to remember that, in the overall scheme, we are not a big mover and shaker. Higher profile that the English Championship, yes, but not higher than many other leagues players whose players would improve our quality

Is anyone on here a season ticket holder at Edinburgh? And if so do you fancy buying me & my best mate 2 tickets for the final? We will of course reimburse. Plus buy you a pint if we meet!
Would've bought them on Friday night, when they seemed to be on general sale, but my mate said he had work on the 1st. Found out this afternoon that's no longer the case, what timing, but tickets no longer on general sale. And Edinburgh saying they'll review on Tuesday evening and let the general public know if there's any left overs. But really don't want to leave it to chance!

With Edinburgh reaching the final, does this mean that, on a moral ground, we are again better than Glasgow?
That fact that we are the current 1872 champions also!

Fair chance that Te Rure will be kept on I would think, despite some negative views of him on these boards I think he's certainly talented enough to be worth persisting with, especially as Burleigh/Tonks will be the mainstays at 10.

I thought you might respond to that RDW, I'm just suggesting Te Rure is worth keeping as a developing player, would you rather we went for some SQ 'experience' instead such as Godman or Gordon Ross?

No, but the only reason for keeping him currently is that there is no one else! Not the best of reasons to keep someone.
I'd like to see him play prem 1 games and see how he gets on - I suspect he won't stand out any more than the other amateurs.

I know it's a little late, but I was very happy with how Edinburgh played on Friday night. I watched from home and to be honest I was a bit gutted I couldn't be there.

Ha! Might have to.

I just saw RDW strutting down the street at lunchtime!
He was wearing a t-shirt with "Te Rure - more world class than an Ayr player"

Gordon Reid, Pat MacArthur, Mark Bennett, Finn Russell, James Eddie, Dougie Hall - all were once one of the Mighty Mazongas of Milbrae.
Raises a question which will surely see us through to the end of the Banter VII - which Scottish club is most fruitful at present in terms of producing international players? This isn't rhetorical - I don't know the answer but I would think that someone like Maj would.

Depends what you class as "producing". I'm sure Finn Russell will say Falkirk and Stirling County had as much of an influence on his career.
Only 3 Ayr can truely claim are Gordon Reid, Pat MacArthur and Mark Bennett. And even Mark Bennett was at Cumnock.

County probably have the claim to most pro at the moment. Gilchrist, Russell, Ashe, Bryce x 2, Kennedy and Lyle. And out of those they spent time at Alloa or Hillfoots.

I guess I mean with which club side did players really shine and therefore could be said to have developed through.

I'd argue that we should be looking at what club side developed them as kids! Most kids stick with their local club up to at least under 16s or colt level. Then after that they can head off to try their hand at a "bigger" club!

Absolutely - Bill Lothian at the Edinburgh Evening news is the worst for name checking a private school team that the player played for. Would always get annoyed when he described Alan MacDonald as the 'former Heriots player' when he played all his club and school rugby for my school/club up until the age of 18!

You shouldn't be surprised at the clout that playing for a "big name club" can offer a player on their march up the ladder.
Lots of good Kirkcaldy players ended up at Heriots, Accies and Stirling county.

We're seeing it just now at my club - we've got two Scotland under 18 players in our squad and they have been told they have to play for a Prem 1 club if they want to go anywhere in the age grade set up. The thing is, they aren't going to be anywhere near a Prem 1 first XV at this stage (17 years old) so they will probably be playing Second XV rugby.
You would have thought playing National 3 First XV rugby at 18 years old next season was better than playing 2nd XV rugby!

It's bloomin annoying that the old school tie nonsense still exists in Scottish rugby these days!
My club is exactly the same RDW! We've got a realy good youth set up and we have plaenty boys who are on the national radar. Unfortuantly they rock off to "bigger" clubs after they play for the colts! No wonder teams struggle to progress when their best players don't hang around!

I suspect that the reason given by the SRU for 'encouraging' players to move club would be the access to higher level coaching, and so that their development can be better monitored.

Hawick deserves a mention for producing Hogg. If each club produced a player of that calibre we'd be laughing.

He did the same with Ben Cairns when he continually referred to him at Currie. Years back, Lothian was a good journalist who covered the lower-league teams well but now the Evening News just prints the same guff about the Prem 1 teams.RDW_Scotland wrote:tigertattie wrote:I'd argue that we should be looking at what club side developed them as kids! Demosthenes - you are right. Guys from the club like the one RDW and I played for (not quite at the same time - I played with his dad ) get stripped of the best players who are told they will get "better coaching" at higher levels clubs i.e holding tackle bags. As Tattie says, how in earth are the lower clubs supposed to get to Prem 1 if the best players are "encouraged" to move on. Good luck to the likes of Selkirk, Howe and Falkirk who seem to be able to overcome this and rise up the leagues (although Falkirk, historically, used to get a few hand-me-down's from Stirling)
