We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
First topic message reminder :
Missed the game today great result!
City have bought terribly since they won the title in 11/12, 100s of millions and no real certain starters or class players introduced.
They've prospered in a relative decline of the pl, picking up the top players from the non top 4 and the sub elite Europeans was good enough as a base but they didn't kick on and it has showed in Europe and this season.
6 wins in a row for United, city, Spurs and Liverpool in that run.
Top 4 all but secured, big test next week against chelsea.

Appears Koeman has targeted Daryl Janmaat as Nathaniel Clyne's replacement this summer & Tim Krul is apparently going to be allowed to leave this summer, with Palace & Southampton interested, as they need a replacement for Forster.
Not too bothered about losing Krul, form has massively dropped & we have Darlow coming in. Janmaat has been brilliant this season, so to lose him would be a blow, but if Koeman comes calling with £15m+ he gets from Man U buying Clyne, I can't see Ashley rejecting.

Krull will probably take first place at Palace but only back up at southampton. Speroni can only go on for so long and i think we are going to lose Hennessy. So he could be good for Palace with speroni staying on as back up

Krul would be first choice joining Southampton next season, Forster is out for over a year & once Krul settles in, with a Dutch manager, I would find it hard to believe Forster forcing his way back in. As for joining Palace, is that really a step up from Newcastle, not really.
Didn't Janmaat work with Koeman before, that move wouldn't surprise me, seeing as Janmaat cost like £6m & could subsequently be sold a year later for over £15m. Classic Mike Ashley.

Jesus, Newcastle ready to completely strip the assets. I presume an "EVERYTHING MUST GO" sign will be attached to the doors. "ALL STARS UP TO 70% OFF!"
Krul is probably better than Forster. One of the few we could realistically sign who I would also take over Adrian.

Not really prem related but I don't understand why there was such uproar about Meekings proposed ban, retrospective action has been called for for years now. The SFA initially ban him which is 100% the correct decision after a clear and deliberate handball, FIFA officials stick their oar in because he misses the final and it's dismissed. Ridiculous.

A like for like upgrade, now the Moyes factor has worn off in the Everton defence you can see what he brings to a mid table side, he and his scouts are quite savvy in the transfer market too.

Me neither, 1 season in which he was on a hiding to nothing with a poisoned chalice seems to quickly eradicate countless years in which he was excellent at Everton it seems.

United apparently in talks with Depay for £25m. Gundogan hasn't been great this season & would still command a huge fee, Schweisteiger could be a much cheaper option, someone LVG could rely on for two years during his stint & play backup to Carrick or maybe more.

Then in two years time we have to replace two player instead of the one, I like Schweinsteiger a lot but I do prefer to sign a younger option as an alternative for a 33 year old.

Sky Sources: Ilkay Gundogan to sign for United for 21.5m
That's a lot of wonga for a guy with a year left off his deal and been out a year..At peak fitness he's one of the best midfielders in europe but it's very risky...

Not sure what this means for Luke Shaw, seems like Blind will primarily be getting used as a left back, good to get our business done early but I agree with Nando, it is a very very risky signing.

He must of satisfied LVG in term of long term fitness, Strootman proves that. I think it's a cracking signing, to be honest, £21m for United is pretty much peanuts for a player with another good six or seven years in his prime. I've always felt LVG was never a fan of Shaw & Blind has already proven to be more than capable there. Shaw should of gone to Man City.

Why on Earth would Bastian Schweinsteiger leave FC Bayern to 'go play backup for Michael Carrick'? Schweinsteiger is captain of Germany and one of the best players of his generation. Carrick would be on the bench if Schweinsteiger joined United.LiamB wrote:United apparently in talks with Depay for £25m. Carrick > Bastian (I can't be bothered to mull over schweiny spelling)
Luke Shaw is wonderful going forward but probably a risk defensively at the top level. Fitness issues too. I don't think LVG will bin him and if anything I think it would see him managing both Shaw (due to age) and Carrick (due to age, opposite spectrum) smartly.
Questions marks over Herrera? A lot of players in midfield now, defensively and attacking.
Hard to place United cos I see Smalling's deal, but think Rojo has been better at centre back when he's played. Rojo looks unlikely to be the left back. Evans has dropped his levels significantly, both bim and Jones could be gone this summer.
Right back and a young striker or two to back up Rooney. If a world class defender becomes available then go for it. That's the business now.

fORSTER HAS HAD THE MOST CLEAN SHEETS ALL SEASON(scuse the caps)
I cant see Krul taking Forsters starting place. Krul will start at palace not at Southampton.
Krul has been a little bit(but at 27 still has the potential) off form and forster hasn't done much wrong- so I am (hoping) we nab him.
EDIT: is it true Foirster is out for a year- I didn't realise(i thought the signs were he would be almost back in time for next season start).. That puts a different perspective on things

Yes, mysti, hence why Krul would have a year of solid first team action at Southampton.

Back to the league for us today.
Gonna be a bit confident/positive and say we may get a point today.
Burnley v Leicester another massive game down the bottom. Gonna go with away win.
Palace v Hull, hoping Palce can get the 3 points, think they will.
QPR v West Ham. Actually think QPR will win this.
Stoke v Sunderland. Think Stoke will just edge it.
The bottom 6 then would be
Villa 33
Leicester 31
QPR 29
...................................................................
Sunderland 29
Hull 28
Burnley 26

I've said it a few times already that the squad needs thinning out, there's a lot of back up players who don't play and i'm starting to worry slightly about our wage bit which seems to be spiralling out of control a bit.
Herrera is safe, if this deal comes off then we'll have four genuine central midfielders; Carrick, Gundogan, Herrera and Fellaini, all of whom are different and offer a lot to the team in different ways. In fact I would think that Herrera would start more games than the others, the Chelsea game did highlight that without Carrick we don't have an adequate replacement for him.
Can only assume Blind will shift to left back now, I like his intelligence there, he and Young have started to form a good partnership creating a lot of chances. I feel the opposite with Shaw Dolph, he's very good defensively but lacking going forward, if he gets his fitness sorted he'll still get a lot of opportunities.
Evans will leave alongside Nani, Hernandez, Januzaj, Cleverley, Rafael and Lindegaard at which point the squad will tighten up significantly.

I did, for about 6 months last year, and it put me off Liverpool fans.
When a 47 year old is taking to social media over whether to get Sterling or Couthinho on the back of his shirt you know it's time to get your coat.
It was a good tool to keep in contact with my boy, Duty, though whist he was serving his 57th ban from this place
