Re: 2015-16 Championship Thread
Nasty collision between Friend and Dimi.
Reckon there will be a good 5-6 minutes of stoppage time added. The longer this goes on, the more worried I am Brighton will sneak a winner.
Can't believe Boro are playing so slowly and casually...almost like a training match. Brighton are the only team that look like they want to win.
You wouldn't guess from the way we're playing the magnitude of this match.

When you're 10 minutes from the PL defending a 1 goal lead essentially you're hardly going to go gung ho are you. Most teams would try to kill the game.

But not Boro, sadly. We've conceded quite a few goals lately by trying to defend 1-goal leads.
Oh wow - 8 minutes of stoppage time! I don't think I can bear to watch...

Absolutely shocking the way we're playing.
Still 2 minutes to go and we're just blindly hoofing it instead of trying to keep possession and run the clock down.

Re: 2015-16 Championship Thread
Well, we did it by the skin of our teeth.
Quite honestly my joy is rather dampened by how poor we were second half. Brighton outplayed us with 10 men and Boro never remotely looked like getting a second goal.
As good as we were first half, we were abysmal second half (told you about the Jekyll & Hyde thing).
Still, we're up and roll on next season. Hope we can invest the Sky TV millions wisely and build a squad that can keep us up.
Commiserations to Brighton. Think a draw was just about the right result in the end. best of luck in the play-offs...hope you fare better than we did last season.

Lovely to see Cohen and Britt score after long layoffs, some light at the end of this seasons tunnel.
Out of our embargo, Poyet apparently due to come in, fresh investment incoming. I don't hold out much hope for next year because our Chairmans a muppet, but hope dies last right.

What match were you watching? Boro should have buried Brighton first half. If we'd taken our chances we'd have been 3-0 or 4-0 up at half time. Would have been a travesty if they had beaten us...though we nearly let them with our own stupidity.

Will Newcastle be favourites then to win the championship?

Yeah, we won with ease back in 2010 with Hughton, but times have changed. The squad we had back then, was better equipped for the demands of the championship + we had good experience with Krul, Nolan, Ameobi, Butt, Guthrie & Barton types + Carroll dominated up front. Haven't really got that this time + other than Aarons, Armstrong & Lascelles, not much youth.
We'll be favourites, as its the easy option for the bookies, but think it will be a much tougher ask this time around. Massive summer really in player recruitment & possibly a new manager too.

Going to be an interesting season alright.
Despite it being in the cards for years, gonna take some getting used to, not playing premiership football next season.
Never experienced this. Not a good feeling at all.

You have to buy into the lower league mentality. If you come into this division thinking you're too good to be here, you'll get smacked in the face repeatedly until you learn it. Newcastle and Villa are targets for every club next season, they have to be ready for that (should Newcastle go down).

Re: 2015-16 Championship Thread
Think Norwich will be fine, the summer will be more stable, whereas the other two relegated sides will be complete overhauls. Norwich have all accomplished & proven Championship players littered throughout & no doubt Cameron Jerome will look like Ronaldo next season. Villa is a total rebuild & possibly the toughest job to turnaround. Newcastle will face a massive exodus now, not quite sure what their team will look like.

Agree that Norwich will be okay as they came up with Championship level players and are going back down with Championship level players.

Well, if you've never watched Boro how can you judge them to be less worthy than Brighton to be promoted?
They say the league table doesn't lie and going on that alone, it was really too close to call, which is why it came down to a winner-takes-all end of season game.

Re: 2015-16 Championship Thread
What a game, atmosphere from both sets of supporters was incredible, best I've been to and I've been to a LOT of football matches. 90 % of the boro fans are class and they as a football club fully deserve to be back in the Prem.
Onto the game itself, the effort was there however the quality wasn't. We were never winning this match, but a 1-1 draw is a superb result, just not enough to send us up. We can debate the big decision all day long, but the fact of the matter is Mike Dean is a terrible official. So many blatant fouls on both sets of players, unpunished. However lots of little questionable fouls, punished straight away. Needed a big game red, sadly we didn't get one.
Like I said on Monday, play offs it is. Not ideal, but 89 points, missing out by 2 goals. This club deserves to be playing premiership football. It's been an incredible season and getting promoted at Wembley would just top the lot.
Congrats to Boro again. Enjoy the prem, like one of you're fans said on the train. I don't think any fan wants to visit Hull again, or Derby for that matter!

This is nail on the head really - I can only see Klose, Redmond and maybe Brady attracting real attention from Prem clubs, so we should be able to keep the majority of the squad together and make some solid additions like last time

Because Brighton as a fanbase and with their budget and the attitude of the club they deserved it of the two.

You dont go to away games to take in the sights.
You go for the beer and enjoyment.
The game itself.
The fact that it may be a sh1t hole in some ways adds to the day out.

Our chairman Steve Gibson took the chance and invested heavily this season knowing it could go wrong, we deserve to be in the PL and our superb chairman who has supported this club since a boy and took this club out of administration in 1986, and has heavily invested in this club ever since certainly deserves it.
Good luck to Brighton in the play offs, but there is no hard luck stories after a full season.

I'm sorry, it isnt a fact. Its a saying. Don't nudge your granny when she's shaving is a saying too. Unless you mean it doesnt lie about where people finished, but that would be a literal sense and not what we're discussing.
The manager deserves it and thats about it. And I'm sure he'll get sacked if it looks like you're going down. I think Brighton deserved it, they haven't got it. I'm unsurprised the best way for you to show happiness is to dig out another side who you'd lucky to emulate next season. If the snapshot on here is anything to go by then happiness isn't something Boro fans do, cos even second place isnt really good enough when you deserve to play two up front or whatever the hell else youve moaned about.

Boro finished second.
They deserved to finish second.
As the saying goes, table doesn't lie.
A saying I've never agreed with
Our chairman Steve Gibson took the chance and invested heavily this season knowing it could go wrong, we deserve to be in the PL and our superb chairman who has supported this club since a boy and took this club out of administration in 1986, and has heavily invested in this club ever since certainly deserves it.
As a season ticket holder I reserve the right to praise or criticise my team as I see fit, I don't feel the need to justify that to supporters of other teams.
I had a great day yesterday, I'm still recovering, so 2nd place is good enough for me, who does or doesn't like it doesn't interest me.

Re: 2015-16 Championship Thread
I'm sorry, didnt realise this was the Boro thread on the Boro forum where we only take interest in our own teams.
It clearly is as you've been antagonising many a folk throughout the season. And no, being a season ticket holder doesn't give you a divine right to be a demanding fan.
Karanka has done a wonderful job and if he had listened to the fans you wouldn't have gone up. I certainly will remember that like I remember Southgate being sacked by the perfect chairman.
And I reserve the right to comment fairly on any football I want. If you don't like it, basically that's tough
