World Cup Rugby Rip off Ireland fans
First topic message reminder :
Just heard a piece on radio about how Ireland game world cup tickets cost 12.5% more than what the French games (in the same pool as Ireland) cost.
Why are Ireland fans penalised like this? We have to take out two tv subscriptions to watch European rugby, now we have to pay more for tickets to games in the UK.
And then some claim that Ireland is favoured because World Rugby is based in Ireland.

Just checked and could get a day return (arr at 12.30, return 7.30pm) for under £60 return.
Last train from London to Paris leaves at 8.30pm so an overnight stay would be required. More cost for the poor French Though to be fair they'd probably want to stay and enjoy the atmosphere having hammered Ireland
Nope. Cardiff is a dump. 8.30 is perfect.

I'm just been honest. The only thing going for Cardiff is the Millenium Stadium. Otherwise its very run down.

Sin é, have you actually checked France's prices? Their weekend game v Italy is priced at £250 (Cat A). Ireland's weekend game against Italy on the same day is £175.

Why do you keep bringing England into it? Its got 3 Top Tier countries in it. There are 400K Australians in the UK.
Why are Ireland fans being financially penalised
Scotland (Cat A) = £455

To put some perspective on your claims that Ireland are penalised. You have used France as a direct comparison, 3 pages of complaining about prices over a difference of £40, £10 per group game.

A reporter on a radio programme did an analysis of the costs of all tickets and it works out that Ireland supporters will contribute 12.5% more than French supporters will have to contribute for tickets.

Not too many junkie beggars around Lansdowne Road munkian.
Hard to even begin comparing to Dublin which is a European capital city who attracts millions of visitors every year.
The Millenium stadium is probably the only reason anyone would go to visit the actual city (different from the city being a destination in itself).

I can't remember who the reporter was, but it was one of the programmes last Sunday (I think I was listening to RTE Radio 1).
edit: and no, I'm not going over to any games. Its just a ripoff.
August/Sept is usually a busy time for big sporting events in Ireland. The All Ireland Football final is on the day before Ireland's first game in the Millenium Stadium.

Did he use a normal calculator or the 'media sensationalism' calculator? One tends to be far more accurate than the other

Clearly Ireland is so affluent, and Wales is so poor and run down it's only fair Irish prices are hiked up.
Some really dissapointing comments Sin, ignorant ones I would suggest.

If you read the headline in that article, you would see that the major contributor (25% of the tourism income) was generated by the Millenium Stadium & Ryder Cup (Celtic Manor isn't in Cardiff).
I've been to North Wales (climbing and walking) many times and I've been to the Breacon Beacons, but the only reason I'd go to Cardiff would be to go to a game in the Millenium.

Honestly?! You think noone would ever go to Cardiff if it wasn't for rugby?
You mean excluding the Monster trucks, X games, and Music concerts of which brings in millions to the city, the museums, castles, Millenium centre, and not to mention Dr Who, which is officialy better than Fair city!

Do a little survey here so, why don't you? Ask people to indicate from a list of reasons why they have gone to Cardiff / and or why they want to go to Cardiff.
I know this might be hard for you to understand, but if I was looking for a dose of culture (museums, concerts, art galleries), I think my preferred destination would be one or all of Paris, Rome/Florence, Berlin or Amsterdam! Cardiff would not have entered my mind.

Ok, so we've established you are ignorant rather than wumming.
You want to do a survey, on a rubgy site, why its posters have ever visited Cardiff ? Yeah, that will get impartial results...
Cardiff is full of things to do you absolute langer.
The most interesting thing in Dublin is Kilmainham Gaol and even that was built by the British.

Sin
I feel for you, the ignorance is strong with this one!
Cardiff is a great little city, and on international day it is the best city in europe if not the planet (I say that only because NZ has evaded my travels thus).
Lets not attack a city because of your hatred to all things Welsh, possibly due to large parts of your culture owing to the Welsh, lets just agree your a boobie who will happily name a city a dump because either you've never been, or have heard rumours / aw funny pictures online!
PS Berlin is sastounding, Paris Rome and Amsterdam are merely tourist traps plowed with Eastern european or African salesmen trying to force selfie sticks down your throat, they really undo any culture and history those 3 cities have!
Florence is well worth the drive from Genoa, then back to the coast to san vincenzo, sublime views and world class vinyards

You obviously missed the bit where I have said North Wales has a lot going for it (climbing, walking, scenery) and that I have been there fairly frequently to do those things.
The only reason why I would want to go to Cardiff would be to go to a sporting event in the Millenium Stadium. Now, other than a sporting event in the Millenium, can you give me a few pointers in why you think people would want to visit Cardiff.

The most interesting thing in Dublin is Kilmainham Gaol and even that was built by the British.
Kilmainham Gaol doesn't even make the Top 10 visitor attractions in Dublin.

I have to say, while Cardiff is a great place to watch the rugby, I would imagine that the city itself would come below Bath, Oxford, Cambridge, York and probably others in terms of a destination for tourists. That said I used to go to Cardiff castle with my grandparents, so there are some things to see!

Look, you are doing yourself no favours trying to compare Dublin to Cardiff. What would be more comparable would be comparing Cardiff with either Cork or Limerick - actually a better comparison would be Belfast considering the similar status in the UK.
For the record: Top attractions in Ireland 2014 (paying)
1. Guinness Storehouse 1.3m (Dublin) -
2. Cliffs of Moher 1.1m (Shannon region)
3. Dublin Zoo 1.1m
4. National Aquatic Centre (Dublin) 931,000
5. Book of Kells (Dublin) 600,500.
6. St Patrick's Cathedral 457,277
On your next visit to Dublin you might like to try out the National Leprechaun Museum - it got 80,000 people through the doors last year.

The aggressive junkie beggars are friendlier and for the most part happier in Dublin though.

That was just for the Peter Stringer exhibition.

Dublin also has one of the biggest problems with heroin and beggars in Europe.
It also now resembles most British city centers with all its British shops as remarked upon by my Irish girlfriend on a recent return visit.

Nope, that would be Zurich.

What can I say, Britain is a nation of shopkeepers. We're more into producing food, running airlines and technology.

Sin, you don't like Cardiff, fair enough but actually it's not that bad, there's a bit of culture in the area and a lot to do, for example it's got a thriving university, the redeveloped waterfront is buzzing and the locals are by and large freindly.
Last time I was in Dublin, as we were walking from the centre to the Guiness brewery we saw some local children attacking an older man who appeared to be of Eastern European origin whist their parents cheered them on, should I base my opinion of Dublin and Dubliners on that incident ?

So now you adjust your argument from purely rugby, to 'sporting events'? Would you like to add music concerts to the list of millions of income per year to the list?
How about europes largest waterfront development?
The national museum that draws hundreds of thousands worldwide?
The award winning theatre in the Armadillo?
The monumentally eccentric castle, dated in one of the oldest in the UK, and by the richest man in the world at the time?
Not to mention the new fully state of the art sports facilities, white water centre etc...
And thats before we get to Eisteddfod, a world famous brewery, blah blah blah...
Dublin is an amzing city which is morphing into a British version of itself, I was surprised last week by how British it felt, and it seems to be pandering to Americans, there are 4/5 new whiskey/beer tour centres that have popped up in recent years, and the 2 we visited were full of Americans and us (1 Welsh londoner and my Raheney based Girlfriend).
Dublin would very much benefit from a few Euro spent on the Liffy, jesus that look rotten!! I remember jumping in one night years ago on a night out, I wouldn't want to touch that sewege these days!

Of course it has, but the line between 'Yay everyone in the Liffy' as a drunken mistake 10 years ago has become 'WTF he's in the Liffy call an Ambulance, or the CDC!!!'
It also has those expensive and flashy looking bridges, which makes it look worse, there was even a shopping trolley in there last week lol

Are you sure that wasn't the Ireland v Georgia match last autumn?
