Welcome to Season 8 of the Aviva Premiership fantasy rugby game. Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to. If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (SJE) as to how the situation will be resolved.
Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players. If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (SJE) will remove players at its discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.
Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the match day 23's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make-up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have an academy squad of 23 players. Players who are in the academy must be born on or after 1st September 1993.
Any player, who is at any Premiership club in real life, either in their senior, academy or AASE squads, can be bid for on the domestic bidding page. Players who are at your own club in real life and are coming through the academy system must be bid for if you want them in your own academy.
Transfers wrote:
- Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.- Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 5 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will receive two additional bids to be used exclusively on academy age players. These players must be bid for on the National League Bidding page, and each bid will be considered by the RFU on its own merits before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.- Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e. from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by the RFU against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
There will be a summer foreign transfer window, which will run as follows.
Player Draft
Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will participate in a player draft beginning the week of June 22nd. Both sides will be allowed to draft two players each. The draft picks will go as follows; 1. Worcester 2. Wasps 3. Wasps 4. Worcester.
Round Bidding
There will be two rounds of bidding. The first window will run the week starting June 29th and the second the week starting July 3rd. All sides will be allowed to sign one player each during the window. These bids are not protected if you do not have the funds in place to bid during the window you will lose the bid.
Open Bidding
From July 13th the foreign market will be open to all bids similar to previous seasons. Due to the world cup the window will remain open till the end of September.
Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation
Compensation will be paid as follows
£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other
All released players will be deemed to have joined a Championship side and can be bid for on the National League Bidding page.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players. Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be European Rugby Champions Cup, European Rugby Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches. These games will take place once a week. A match thread will be put up every Monday. Home teams must be named by midnight on Tuesday. Away teams must be named by midnight on Wednesday. Failure to meet these deadlines is punishable by the addition of three match points to the oppositions final score, unless both sides fail to do so. Both teams must provide tactics by midnight on Thursday. Predictions will be open from 00:01 hours on Friday and remain open until 20:00 hours on Sunday. Managers will pm the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved). An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.
Managers are asked to provide detail as to why they have predicted a result. To be considered a descriptive prediction this must be a full 3 lines long when entered into the text box.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.
In addition, each team must have the following:-
For domestic competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 4 of those must be in your starting XV.
For European competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 6 of those must be in your starting XV.
At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.
All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).
Failure to comply with these rules will result in a 1 league point deduction.
If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.
Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.
Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.
Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.
£2m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
Bonuses will be awarded on a scaled basis i.e. 2m for 5 games, 1.6m for 4 games and so on
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc upto a maximum of £5m per fine.

Was a good take by Watson but pretty sure I can go back to the 6 nations and find a few the other way Pete
Tommy Bowe has been woeful. Missed tackles and biting in way to early. Ireland's defence very poor in general missing first tackles and very slow to drift out.

Parling has certainly sorted the line out out, some good steals too which we don't often get.

It's still hardly waterproof. Ireland decided instead of pushing they will just wheel every single scrum

Said after watching the England france live game where nacatci run all over him that Watson is poor in defence.
Love him to bits and think he will become an all time great but even in this game he is a over the place. Great ball in hand though and just a matter of time he sorts his defence out

True but Watson is a disaster waiting to happen. Still pick him though as our first choice wing as his good will out weigh bad and he has factor.
Barrit been great our line out poor even with parling. It's a lottery. He won 2 all match but it's youngs fault it's simply dreadful

Cole for second match in a row been so poor in scrum. He is powder puff scrummaging wise and always has been. Great sub but not up to starting.
Not helped by youngs though

May had one of his better games, good break there.
Cole described as a "powder puff scrummager" is one of the stupidest comments I've ever seen on here, hang your head Matthew.

We dominate set piece when Wilson plays. Cole plays we get killed. Do the maths. Not recovered from his injury and not the same player. Been awful throughout the warm up games. Worth 6 points to the opposition And gives us no platform.
Been murdered today and against France. Will not start WC. As said he is not helped by Tom youngs who is dross also. George is better but Hartley should start

Been impressed with the bench today.
Much better performance, feeling a bit better going into the WC now. Barritt/Joseph combo looked good and Wood had his best game in years.

For me winners from today
May - outstanding and nailed his position
George - must be starting 2
Ford-improved and looked improved
England defence - line speed awesome with wood nailing his place. Rest of pack also excellent in speed off line
Losers
-tom youngs - every lineout we won was hard work when he was on and despite a fantastic work rate he is not good enough
- Dan cole- your job is to scrum you can't so need to be bench. Can't do basics it does not matter how good around park you are
- england set piece. Needs no

Re: Season 8 Homepage II
Doff my cap to the English back three. All 3 out played there opposite numbers today. Ireland's defence was appalling at times and they did nothing with the ball. Dave Kearney went relatively well as did Payne and McGrath at scrum time England will be delighted with the pack fronting up in the loose. Lineout looked a bit better if not perfect and and halfbacks were great first half.
BTW Tommy Bowe was truly woeful. Didn't do a single thing right. Missed tackles, bit in, knocked on, over ran the ball. Not selecting Trimble looking a dodgy decision considering his performance last night

Re: Season 8 Homepage II
I think both scrum and line out were better than vs France, scrum still had issues but it looked like Youngs lost a couple of hooks where we didn't actually go backwards (I think George has his place now) and a couple of cheeky wheels that could have been penalties to us (and one by us that won us a penalty but shouldn't). Still a bit crap but better at least.
Lineout was better but still scrappy, much better with George frankly.
Breakdown and contact line MUCH better
For me- Brown, May, Ford, Youngs all very good in backs. Watson made some slips defending but excellent finish for his try.Barrit solid in defence but both centres quiet (JJ tackled pretty well too)
Brown immense in the air and making yards again and good defending, shame he got a few dodgy passes. He passed a few times showing more vision than usual but also missed an overlap and passed one forward.
May had a great game, actually chasing kicks, silly pen aside, and took his try and nearly try well. Don't like jumping into scoring though, it's dangerous. Was ok in defence too
Ford and Youngs combined well and controlled, looked for clever kicks and g=kept pace on the game
Farrell not so good off the bench
Wriggles good off the bench but shouldn't have kicked it dead at the end - if we had managed to score 7 points (with no risk as we were up by 8) we would go up to 2nd, which isn't much but would have been nice
Marler handy in loose, as well as he's played recently in the loose, but has to take some blame for scrum.
Youngs not having a good day at Hooker, failed at primary roles did some good in the loose but as an ex-centre I wished he'd passed backwards…
Cole had a meh game. Didn't see much in the loose and struggled at scrum
Lawes busy in loose, line out was ok with him. Parling definitely helped the lineoyt and played pretty well in the loose.
Wood and Robshaw had their best games for a while, but Wood has had a longer dry spell and had a slightly more impressive game, making yards for once. Robshaw vital as an extra receiver and emergency ball runner.
Morgan had a very good game, did his rumbling well. Billy and Launch ok off the bench and Brookes and Mako did ok too.
Overall good but our execution is still sloppy and the set piece not there yet.

Re: Season 8 Homepage II
Good sum up CJ.
I thought the scrum went ok with pens to both sides but the whole front row could do better tbh. They're apparently working more on set piece now after hammering the conditioning, come WC time we'll be a different beast I reckon.

Let's hope so but less
Than 2 weeks will not fix it.
The issue is that Cole is a very average to poor scrummager and always been but is a way off what he was pre injury.
He had a life changing injury and unfortunately will be never be the same.
Also you have youngs who is appalling in all set piece which makes Cole and marler have undue
Pressure. With Hartley it would mask cole's lack of power and technique.
On top of this you have marler struggling for scrum form so we have a perfect scrum.
Cole not as bad as he has looked although is A poor scrummager but with no support it magnifies his weakness.
Amazed if Wilson does not start. Likewise amazed if George does not start

Re: Season 8 Homepage II
Not so sure about the scrums going well, it looked solid at times but I'm sure we lost 3 scrums from our own put-ins, which is crazy for a team that had a dominate scrum at the 6nations. Line out better and Youngs did a lot better, issue there is we don't really get good quality, fast attacking ball that guys like Ford and JJ can really do some damage.
Thought Ben Youngs had a very good game - all our backs did and back three were excellent, especially May in the first half. Barritt makes a big difference. Probably first time I've seen Lancaster use his bench for impact, all the subs made a difference.

Good work Driver!
Always said Wilson a better prop since Wilson nailed his place. Wilson was poor but emerged into a great th. love what Cole offers and pre injury was a better scrummager but like Jenkins he could hold his own and was never a destructive scrummager.
Not same player since injury
And think he may have had it at int level. Would have Wilson and Brookes ahead currently.

If you think Brookes is better than Cole you've lost the plot. When did Wilson last have a good game? He's been out injured most of the season.
I'd wager you £1000 Cole starts against Fiji (injury permitting)

Re: Season 8 Homepage II
It's childish.
Matt's opinion on Cole is as valid as Pooly's on Jonny May. I happen to think your both miles off the mark.
Both ignore the good things they do and highlight everything that goes wrong for them. Makes for a consistently negative discussion if you're
both involved.
Cole's not had the best of seasons so Matt has forgotten just how good he has been prior to that both as a dominant scrummager and arguably England's best breakdown exponent. He has been the first name on the England team sheet when fit for 3 or 4 years now at a guess and will no doubt find that form again.
Just as Pooly chooses to ignore the fact that Jonny May is one of the most dangerous players in world rugby with ball in hand and has made one of the NH's best wingers look like a child yesterday because he sometimes struggles against thought out considered and clever kicking strategies which would have made excellent wingers look very foolish. (just as England made Zebo, an excellent high ball exponent, look very average due to a very good kicking strategy.
Both sides are happy to see those to players not in England's starting XV, but both have excellent players fighting for there position.

With May, no mug is going to make Conrad Smith look stupid in defence. Last player to do that for different reasons was Manu

Fair point Steve, I did comment on May playing well yesterday to be fair.
Still happy to wager a player though
