Gwent Dragons 2015/16 thread
First topic message reminder :
Sure, but here I am trying to understand your opinion yet, sadly, you won't address a key element of it.
Previously you wrote: "Only sad, narrow minded parochial people stuck in the amateur era mindset would see gwent as something in direct competition to newport." so I wrote a detailed, honest and clear answer as to why that insult is misplaced.
It's misplaced because one club is carrying all of the risk but with only 50% ownership.
Do you think it fair that one club carries all of the financial risk, without total ownership, for a "Gwent" team? Sure, you don't need to address the question but, in all fairness, it will speak volumes if you don't address it.

Looks like the team to take on the Blues will be roughly the same that goes away to Craggy Island the week after.
Fingers crossed no injuries but its a contact sport.

Ospreys U18 lost to Bath, but beat Wasps and Saracens. Wasn't there somebody on here the other week saying our U18s should play against English teams more often?

Scrappy game - but typical heads-up rugby from two sides of fearless young players. Also it looks as if Bristol had to find a bigger kit for their Will Skelton look-alike .

How often? They play them at every pre-season.

Looked like they smashed Bristol. That number 4 always stood out on the wing looked good.
Is there an official site for the results of this festival? I can't seem to find it.

They don't play every weekend as it is. I don't think they even play a full season. I wouldn't mind seeing a B&I Cup at U18 and U20 levels though.

No there isn't. The dragons website updates their 16's results but not their 18's for some reason. @dragons_academy is the best place to follow results

Dregs kicking arse on two fronts with normal service resumed at the bloosground. Can't believe that Filise is still at it. The famous Ponty captain Dico played too.

Yet the first half team were clearly more than a match for the NGD.
Re: Gwent Dragons 2015/16 thread
GavinDragon wrote:so anyone at the game today care to give a synopsis?
The NGD have a fine spine developing with Landman, Jackson and Pretorious - the latter is a very smart player. The NGD have a weakness with Tovey and at hooker, with the scrum seeing the NGD pretty much smashed.
At half time, Cardiff replaced 13 of the team (if not more) and were seriously dreadful as the NGD made few changes. Then, when the NGD made changes, Cardiff improved.
It was good to see Brew return and good to see that he is exactly the same player he always was.
If the NGD had a 10 who could play smart rugby then they'd be a match - if they can keep their first choice fit.

To a degree, yes, but you'll surely agree that the first half teams were pretty evenly matched. The lacked of counter rucking makes it difficult to judge adequately, as did Dave Coaches' lenient refereeing.
Re: Gwent Dragons 2015/16 thread
But, to extend that 14 man thing, could you see why the 2nd minute deliberate knock on, preventing a clear overlap try, in the 22, didn't result in a yellow?
That was worse than Pretorious'.

Fair overall. Tovey is our Hook, except he can't play centre.
First choice the important bit - scrum in particular though I think we only had 1/3 of our best front row on the field yesterday for what 20 mins?

There's not much between us at all, hasn't been for a while to be honest. I have a feeling you'll pip us this year due to slightly better depth and the Chief sodding off. Depends if your players get their knickers in a twist with Danny Wilson though.

You're in for a long season if you're going to try and apply logic to refereeing decisions.

You'll know that better than me, but you'll agree that none of Cardiff's first choice front row was on the field in the first half.

Fair enough. I think that Cardiff were missing 11 players yesterday from the first half team - how many were the NGD missing?

Seriously? Jenkins over Hobbs, Dacey over Lewis, Mitchell over Filise won't improve the front row? I can't share that opinion with you.

So we struggled at scrumtime? Concerning as that Blues pack didnt look strong on paper.
The argus also indicated that we were solid at the set piece

What with only two players missing from the squad due to the world cup I think the Dragons could take this opportunity to get the season off to a good start
