Gwent Dragons 2015/16 thread
GavinDragon wrote:I don't need to address anything, I am one fan with an opinion the same as you and any other fan.
Sure, but here I am trying to understand your opinion yet, sadly, you won't address a key element of it.
Previously you wrote: "Only sad, narrow minded parochial people stuck in the amateur era mindset would see gwent as something in direct competition to newport." so I wrote a detailed, honest and clear answer as to why that insult is misplaced.
It's misplaced because one club is carrying all of the risk but with only 50% ownership.
Do you think it fair that one club carries all of the financial risk, without total ownership, for a "Gwent" team? Sure, you don't need to address the question but, in all fairness, it will speak volumes if you don't address it.
Re: Gwent Dragons 2015/16 thread
But one club doesn't a number of individuals who have loaned a great deal of money do. It is their money which is a risk of not being repaid.
But do I accept that t is thanks to Newport RFC - AND ITS BACKERS - that we have a pro side at all? Yes.
But I do wonder why you feel the need to concern yourself with NGD matters? Your beloved Cardiff have already nailed their colours to the mast by stating they are Cardiff first and foremost...whats the matter scared we Dragons may also become a real region and leave you diffs alone peddling your pure club nostalgia?

And on that note - how did the blues get on against Bristol tonight? Or can I expect a review from you on the Blues thread?

The first sentence makes no sense. The second sentence is disproven by the security of Rodney Parade being used.
Ignoring the childish rhetoric, my concern is honesty. The game in Wales is dishonest.
Could you answer the question now? Or will we just note your reluctance to answer it, despite it's obvious answer?

I'll put it in the 'Gavin won't answer a straight question because he knows the obvious answer goes against what he's preached' box.
Re: Gwent Dragons 2015/16 thread
no you can put that in the 'Gavin refuses to dance to Phil's tune' box

Sorry, I didn't realise it was you.
In which case, I'm disappointed. I expected you to at least note the inequality and unfairness of the situation. I'm very surprised that you won't address the issue.

GavinDragon wrote:no you can put that in the 'Gavin refuses to dance to Phil's tune' box
My tune? Give over. It's a perfectly fair question. In fact, when you wrote about this on twitter and I pointed out that you had the wrong end of the stick, you replied with 'educate me'.
I just did that, politely and fairly. The response from a grown man was to run from the fair question. Why? What is there to gain?
It's obvious that Newport RFC shouldn't carry the financial responsibility alone unless they own 100%. What the hell they brand themselves is up to them.
Re: Gwent Dragons 2015/16 thread
How about you begin your own thread, separate to this, and I will address 'the issue'.
Then we can spare those who care little for politics of our ramblings

Odd.
It's a fair question, let's see if you want to answer it:
Should Newport RFC carry 100% of the financial risk for only 50% of the ownership? Yes or no?

Derail this thread? The ownership issue has derailed pro rugby at Rodney Parade for the last twelve years!

Does anyone on this thread actually talk about rugby anymore or is it all just Newport RFC Dragons politics?

Once the season kicks off I'm sure we will get back our 'I couldn't care less about Ponty, but... (insert long winded rant here)'
I also prefere the whole Newport 'Are we a region? Are we Newport RFC? Are we the Gwent Monmouthshire Cross Keys Pooler Dragons? Are we human or are we dancer?' thread as well

Ponty lost to Henley Hawks yesterday.

The game on Friday was good. We seem to have a scrum this season - even without Stankovic and Brok Harris. Also have a couple of young props coming through who are handy.
Ashton Hewitt looked very lively, put in a couple of good tackles. We also looked very competitive at the breakdown and put the Scarlets under pressure there.
Two intercept passes cost us the game. I think Luc Jones threw one of them. i do wonder how many more chances he will get.
Overall we look solid up front but lacking spark behind - hallmark of a Lyn Jones side I would say

I've fancied him at Dragons for a while too. But at fly-half, and then providing cover to 12 and 15 if needed.

agreed. although we probably could not afford him. then there is his injury record.
Shame that Ash Smith retired. dont think he ever played in a backline behind a solid pack

Unfortunately, Welsh rugby politics for one reason or another ad finitum has dominated message boards for donkeys. Can't see it changing anytime soon.

Adam Warren is meant to be the closest thing to a distributor we will have.

Tricky one -Dorian et al need a minder at 12 - but the best 10 to come out of Gwent since Dai Watkins in particular is so positionally poor that even a rock like Dixon will inevitably get caught covering two channels so we may as well try a footballer there I spose

Not a bad idea. May as well see if Newport County can sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid as wellGavinDragon wrote:I wish we had a distributor in midfield - would like to see us try and tempt Henson to RP
Sadly for you lot the Faletau deal to Bath fell through which would have potentially given some half decent cash to spend (not Henson though)

Dixon wont be covering anything for up to 6 months. According to BBC Sport Twitter he is out for 6 months with an achilles injury.

So that'll be Warren and Wardle then; they're decent centres. Let's hope Morgan doesn't get cropped too.

Re: Gwent Dragons 2015/16 thread
Yes Meyer can. That is his primary position I think.
Wardle lined up at 12 against the Scarlets with Nightingale at 13. They looked solid enough.
I have read that warren is more of a footballing 12. Can't say I have seen much evidence of this in the two games so far.

Not sure - should also point out that the headline reads 6 months. But in the article Lyn Jones says 3-6 months. Lets hope it is 3!

Not if coming back early means any further injury keeps him out for even longer. At least we've got cover this time.

Ta.
It won't be a center crisis like last season but its horrible for Dixon after all that work.

Be interesting to see how many more members of CrossFit Qatar break down after 'all that work' over the next few months
