Tonight's action
First topic message reminder :
I see these started whenever there's a big fight on so I thought I'd be the one to start tonight's. Ok, there's no real big, competitive fight on, but hey.
So, tonight we have a few in interested (slightly) in: Groves, Joshua, Whyte and Mayweather.
My take? The guy Groves is fighting seems like the kind he was knocking out before he fought Froch. If he hasn't been broken by those two fights then I expect (and hope) for a stoppage in his favour.
Joshua I expect to win by stoppage within a few rounds, despite the nonsense hype. I was struck by Cornish's trainer saying that they fought similar level opponents, so I looked it up. He's fought, like, only three opponents with winning records. They're both 'untested', but they're records are a mile apart. Don't get me wrong, Cornish is coming to win, but only because he's undefeated and this circus has probably convinced him that this means they're equivalent. They're not. It's a mismatch.
Whyte will win by KO also. Another mismatch; a foregone conclusion, arranged to ensure nothing goes off the rails with regards to his and Joshua's 'rematch'.
Mayweather and Berto? UD. Hoping for a miraculous Berto KO, but Mayweather is a genius. I can't stand the guy, but he's head and shoulders above anyone in his weight division and is a living embodiment of the beautiful science. He will win. Clearly. He is a massive Mr Winklechops though and that really can't be overstated enough, I have to say.
Please post the action as it happens. I'll be following.

Unless it was caused by Hibbert breaking the rules then it's just a retirement and stoppage win.

Ahh Yea really bad luck would have won easily
Gave Hibbert two rounds being incredibly generous arguably only deserved the first

his back looks done, had to be helped out to the dressing room. Am gutted for him but happy for JWH as he's another nice guy of the sport. Don't think he's too keen on a rematch though

Re: Tonight's action
Looks like the injury was caused by a punch. What's protocol for an injury caused by a punch to an illegal zone? Can it be overturned afterwards?

Goes to scorecard if accidental foul means cannot continue
Dunno though it's difficult to.tell if a punch caused it or just bad luck

Ha ha, unlucky HH, we had to watch X factor first so sympathise with you.
Don't think it should be overturned really, it's a lifeline for JWH and if they play it right they could have a 4th big bout as co main event to a local show. It's not like they couldn't do with a shot in the arm lately

Re: Tonight's action
If you could win a fight on the cards through injury... Floyd would stick and move for a round and claim he'd tweaked a rotator cuff.
It's too open to abuse and interpretation. Would never work in such a clean straight sport like boxing.
Great stoppage from ijl!

Damn this kid can punch.
That was a short punch too for the first KD, didn't even extend.

Well that was pretty pointless, doubt Whyte is lasting much longer, roll on 2016.

On tonight's performance, whyte won't take much longer.
I didn't think Cornish's legs looked that bad but he did look over matched.

Hammy talking about aj's muscles, happy talking about Cornish's legs. Thought I was on one of truss' blue oyster threads.

Re: Tonight's action
People keep saying "we don't know how his stamina will hold up after 7-8 rounds".....
I wonder if there's actually anybody out there to take him that far.
His chin is the only question really, if he can take a punch then I can't see anybody at all that can withstand his power.

If AJ hits you first, you go. Simple as that.
He could get to challenging for the big one before anyone gets close to him.

Hopefully they will Joshua of the leash now against a higher calibre of opposition. 2016 has some good fights - Price, Chisora, Fury and wouldnt be surprised to see David Haye re-appear at long last in 2016. There is a whiff of ppv about domestically.

They need to set up backup opponents for Joshua to guarantee, say, 6 rounds of boxing.

What do you expect him to say Scott? Should he just buy his ticket on the Joshua hype train, and join the sky love-in. 'Yeh Johnny, Joshua looks great, he's gonna spark me'
Of the two Joshua is the bigger winkle. The mouth moves and the pre-recorded script comes out. Personality of a lobotomised Dover sole.

Chisora would be good for AJ but I think del is after Teper.
I don't think any domestics will won't any of aj, if he walks through whyte. The only one with a chance is Haye but he may not come back.
Bellotti has a dig for a little one.

Doesn't need to basically call Cornish a bum though. You don't need to be a boobie to be 'real'. It's not like Whyte's record is full of names.milkyboy wrote:IScottrf wrote:Whyte is a Winkle.

I think Whyte seemed ok for a guy who is going to be set up as the fall guy on SKy for Joshua's Mr Nice Guy, Stay Humble manuactured routine.

I couldn't care less about AJ's personality, if he's still delivering brutal knockouts when he steps up then that's all I care about.

Re: Tonight's action
Well Sky were trying to force feed a script down his throat about Cornish being undefeated, 21-0, danferous etc. He lasted less than even the biggest journeyman looking for a pay day on Joshua record and Whyte pointed out he was 21-0 against fighters not even in the top 200 - fair point but obviosuly not what the Sky guys wanted to hear.

Despite AJ's stay humble sky backed persona we all know AJ is likely a nasty guy but that helps him in the ring

Biggest name in boxing since Ali was a disgusting human being and wasn't afraid of the world knowing, not sure why they're trying to make AJ something he's not.

Because he tried to win and put it on Joshua, which is good rather than trying to survive.

Re: Tonight's action
When you last barely a minute its hard to really say how much he went for it and how much was down to just getting blasted out by just not being all that good. Probably a bit of both but when you are building a guy up as an unbeaten and dangerous opponent and hes gone after a minute I think it fair game to point out who the 21 wins were against.

Decent recovery round by Groves in the second, but he just isn't moving his head here.
