I missed the transgression too. What did the ref make of it?
If it was so bad then surely that would be taken into account for MoM (which I think he most certainly was; notwithstanding this incident) but those MoM awards have been a complete lottery/joke in this world cup.

Well done Ireland. Impressive stuff.
However, I feel I must also add that I was a tad disappointed with France. Taking nothing away from Ireland. They didn't let France into the game. But France, fancied by some as an outside bet, and seen as playing the best out of the NH teams before today, just didn't look good at all. Even though history suggests otherwise, this France team will not worry the All Blacks next week IMO.

France were extremely poor today, didn't turn up at all... Hard to judge Ireland on that one, will have to wait until next week to see what they are made of.

Well done Ireland. There was only one team playing rugby in the 2nd half. Ironically Madigan and his direct rugby hurt us more than Sexton.
Good luck against Argentina.

I agree, Sexton as of late is spending too much time either making his decision or taking too much time to execute his decision. Madigan came on and things started to flow more freely. I hope Sexton is available for Argentina though.

What a stupid thing for SoB to do - wasn't even subtle.
What would Ireland's likely back 5 be with him and O'Connell out?

Depends on who is called up as injury replacements, bare in mind O'Mahony is also probably out.
We are looking at...
4- Toner
5- Henderson
6- Murphy
7- Henry
8- Heaslip

Thanks, hard luck France. Thought Madigan and Henderson gave more problem to France than POC and Sexton. Henry didn't weaken the team either.

Frankly, didn't understand where this sentiment was coming from before today. Never mind Ireland getting to this game with a superior points difference than France, or that Ireland had both scored more tires and conceded less against the exact same opponents. France have been sloppier than the likes of Wales and Scotland in their opening three games.
They played as we should have expected a St. Andre France team to play. Physical, powerful but not well drilled or incisive.

France proved to be typically unfit. Ireland retained ball and ran them all over the place. France completely gassed after 60 mins.

Well done Ireland. Fairly jealous of that performance - and of your fans today. Replacements stepped up magnificently. SOB is sure to cop a ban for that moment of lunacy, and you may have lost some key players - but you have some real depth it seems. Argentina won't be easy - but a heck of a lot better to play that the ABs!

The irony is, O'Brien and O'Mahony have bother been very quiet recently. But to lose both and O'Connell is undoubtedly a big blow. I don't think we lose anything in the backrow with Henry replacing one of them, but Murphy having to come and now O'Connell definitely amounts to a step down.

Here's what I think will start for us;
4-Toner
5-Ryan
6-Henderson
7-Henry
8-Heaslip
Do not make the mistake of underrating Donnacha Ryan or Chris Henry. They are both quality players. There is a big step down in leadership without O'Connell but there are still three quality second rows and Hendersons love of smashing things can translate well to the back row. Henry was unlucky not to be starting already and will get hi chance.

Could well be it, Notch. SOB deserves a hug, followed by a slap. Would have been great to have him there against the Argies, but that backrow can certainly do a job. Hopefully, if we win, we will have SOB back for the semi's.

Has Henderson played at 6 that much? He looks mobile enough to do it but does he have the experience not to be shown up?
Him replacing POC at lock is probably a step up for Ireland in playing terms but the loss of leadership could be crippling

Yes he has. It's his preferred position. Agree with you on the loss of leadership, but still have Heaslip, Best and hopefully Sexton.

Lack of experience I think, but McCloskey could well be a name of the future, alongside Henshaw.

Real shame about those injuries and SOBs brainfart because that was a very impressive performance overall by Ireland. SOB was finally recognisable as himself again.
Madigan was very good but sometimes I think he just needs to run straight and back himself rather than looking for the offload. Henshaw looks more and more like a Lions centre in waiting.

Jeez the occasional win against the worst France team of the professional era can go to some people's heads... Aus have probably been the 'bravest' and are the form team, they showed that yesterday. But once again, that was a very good win for Ireland.
