Yeah, I have never had an issue with him, he is calm and reasoned, better than trigger happy guys like Poite, Garces and Jackson.

If Wales play like they did against Australia I think they can win. They have to put points on the board though when the get a chance. Three points from a penalty or drop kick is better than not scoring a try.

Fully understandable thinking, Geordie. Off at a tangent for this thread - thanks to all your town-folk for being incredible hosts. I was down for the Samoa game and while I had to head back to Edinburgh right away, everyone who stayed on seems to have enjoyed themselves and the locals had a great attitude.GeordieFalcon wrote:InjuredYetAgain wrote:Good luck both teams. Good refereeing from Barnes. He is really clear in his instructions to both teams. I really don't know why is so unpopular.

Barnes: How is this a tackle and you have to release when the player is actually still on his feet?

The Welsh scummy was about to gub whoever was holding him after the whistle until he saw it was Etzebeth. Then stopped. Good career move.

This is really what Wales didn't want. You cant give penalties away in kickable positions. Discipline...

Looked to be held up to me, but if his knees touched the pitch fair enough

Du Plessis looks like he has something a little worse than a paper cut there. The way he was holding is arm looked really sore.

Wales aren't playing knock out rugby here. They are losing composure when in SA's 22.

Re: QF1: South Africa v Wales, 17 October
Feel like Barnes being his usual over-fussy self is going to drag this game down a lot. Everything that can be penalised is. Sometimes you've got to give players a bit of latitude.
Also really feel putting that final try scoring pass into touch will be massive- 7-0 up in the first few minutes would have been a huge momentum boost for Wales.

i don't get this view on barnes, he's given a couple of offsides and a couple of not releasing. Hardly call that being fussy

The good news for Wales so far is that SA have not looked attacking at all and they have defended very well. Bad news is, Discipline and Clinical finishing.

He applies the rules exactly as they are written. This is not a good way to ref the game as you can feasibly find something to penalise at every breakdown. For instance if a player is knocked to his knees but instantly recovers, he'll be pinged for going off his feet. If a player waits a second before presenting the ball, he may be pinged. Kills the game as a spectacle. Look to Nigel Owens for an example of a ref who understands which rules should be flexible and which are inviolable.
Great try Wales

have to disagree, i get frustrated with Owens because he lets things go because he's trying let the game flow - thats not his job and its this very reason that causes all of the inconsistency in reffing games.
