Welcome to Season 8 of the Aviva Premiership fantasy rugby game.  Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to.  If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (SJE) as to how the situation will be resolved.

Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players.  If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (SJE) will remove players at its discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.

Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the match day 23's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make-up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have an academy squad of 23 players.  Players who are in the academy must be born on or after 1st September 1993.

Any player, who is at any Premiership club in real life, either in their senior, academy or AASE squads, can be bid for on the domestic bidding page. Players who are at your own club in real life and are coming through the academy system must be bid for if you want them in your own academy.
Transfers wrote:

  • Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.
  • Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 5 players from the Championship or the National Leagues. Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will receive two additional bids to be used exclusively on academy age players. These players must be bid for on the National League Bidding page, and each bid will be considered by the RFU on its own merits before being accepted or rejected.  No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
  • Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e. from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by the RFU against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.

There will be a summer foreign transfer window, which will run as follows.
    Player Draft
Worcester Warriors & London Wasps will participate in a player draft beginning the week of June 22nd. Both sides will be allowed to draft two players each. The draft picks will go as follows; 1. Worcester 2. Wasps 3. Wasps 4. Worcester.

    Round Bidding
There will be two rounds of bidding. The first window will run the week starting June 29th and the second the week starting July 3rd. All sides will be allowed to sign one player each during the window. These bids are not protected if you do not have the funds in place to bid during the window you will lose the bid.

    Open Bidding
From July 13th the foreign market will be open to all bids similar to previous seasons. Due to the world cup the window will remain open till the end of September.

Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation

Compensation will be paid as follows

£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other

All released players will be deemed to have joined a Championship side and can be bid for on the National League Bidding page.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players.  Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be European Rugby Champions Cup, European Rugby Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches.  These games will take place once a week. A match thread will be put up every Monday. Home teams must be named by midnight on Tuesday. Away teams must be named by midnight on Wednesday. Failure to meet these deadlines is punishable by the addition of three match points to the oppositions final score, unless both sides fail to do so. Both teams must provide tactics by midnight on Thursday. Predictions will be open from 00:01 hours on Friday and remain open until 20:00 hours on Sunday. Managers will pm the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved).  An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.

Managers are asked to provide detail as to why they have predicted a result.  To be considered a descriptive prediction this must be a full 3 lines long when entered into the text box.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.

In addition, each team must have the following:-

For domestic competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 4 of those must be in your starting XV.

For European competition at least 8 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 6 of those must be in your starting XV.

At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.

All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).

Failure to comply with these rules will result in a 1 league point deduction.

If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.

Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.

Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.

Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.

£2m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
Bonuses will be awarded on a scaled basis i.e. 2m for 5 games, 1.6m for 4 games and so on
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc upto a maximum of £5m per fine.

Very early days for both players. James has looked good in parts but got outplayed by Adam Powell at the weekend.

Brookes is a real strange one this season. Our set piece is much improved with Jon Welsh with the same front 5. Brookes has slipped into a great Saints front 5, perhaps he just looks better with better players around him rather than being the main guy??

I'm not sure Brookes is a starter yet but he's certainly throwing his hat in and he's still a young lad.

2/3 years ago Brian Smith said that Corbs knee was degenerative and he wouldn't play past 30, which Corbs denied.  I think it's pretty clear who was telling the truth.

Utterly world class and his lions moment lives forever. I have the exact same knee problem with degenerative cartilage. When I was playing a decent level they wanted to re position my leg and hip to stop me putting all Weight through the cartilage. I refused as was never going to be a career. Had my cartilage done 5 times In left knee and now struggle to play more than 6/8 games a year.

Essentially his leg and hip are out
Of line so all weight goes through the knee.

Saints lucky Ethan Waller looks a player. His brother is ok but never more than AP. Ethan looks real deal.

Auterac showed he still has a lot to learn. Brookes destroyed him today and looks great. Brookes always been brilliant for England.

Ford had a stinker today and needs to nail his management of games. Still some doubts about him.

CJ Quins may have looked good against Irish but it's a poor Irish side. As a Glos fan I am looking forward to Irish on the 2nd Jan. It's a game we should win well:

There are massive gaps between teams in AP

Leicester saints sarries bath Exeter and wasps. After that It's a separate league. Glos are awful at moment. No front row. No 10 and poor centres. Lack leadership and a game plan. Friday night we were lucky.

Apparently Wayne Barnes had a shocker today.

I am a Barnes fan as he makes bold decisions but apparently today he got most of these decisions wrong.

Worcester set piece has been excellent all year and think
They will stay up. Worry about Irish, Falcons and to a lesser extent Glos

Telegraph eps with predicted changes

Personally can't see many changes but Kvesic and Fraser need a look. Don't think either are int level but need the chance to prove it. Both having a good season and in a problem position. Likewise wimps on and Daly have to be looked at.

EPS SQUAD (32) Full-backs M Brown, A Goode; Wings J May, J Nowell, A Watson; Centres B Barritt, H Slade (tbc), J Joseph, L Burrell; Fly-halves G Ford, O Farrell. Scrum-halves B Youngs, D Care, R Wigglesworth; Props J Marler, D Cole, M Vunipola, K Brookes, D Wilson; Hookers T Youngs, J George, R Webber; Locks J Launchbury, C Lawes, G Kruis, G Parling; Back row C Robshaw, T Wood, J Haskell, C Clark, B Vunipola, B Morgan. Possible changes E Daly for Barritt; J Simpson for Wigglesworth; H Thomas for Wilson; D Hartley for Webber; D Ewers for Wood; M Itoje for Parling; W Fraser for Clark; B O’Connor as the 33rd man

Worcester still in the mix for relegation in my opinion.  It's between us, Falcons and them, with us as favourites for the drop based on results so far.  Our hope is that having played all the better sides first whilst we are getting to grips with the new systems the coaches have brought in, that we will be able to grab the wins against the lower sides (Gloucester, Sale, Worcester and Falcons).  Before then though it's Saints on Boxing Day.  If we take it to them like we did to Saracens, then we have a chance.  If we have 20% possession like we did yesterday, then we will get humped.  Worrying times, but I'm keeping the faith that we will be ok.

You've changed a lot of players this season as well haven't you Pete? To be fair you didnt look that bad against us last weekend, but there aren't any really outstanding go to players who can change a game for you, whereas Wasps have guys like Johnson, Hughes, Simpson, Daly and Wade who can all produce match winning moments.

Trouble with sport is that if you get into a losing streak then it is very difficult to get out of it - Worcester look capable of picking up points under Ryan - not sure about Newcastle as can see you beating them.

That's the trouble Chris, it looks like we have been losing for so long we have forgotten how to win.  Tom Coventry still doesn't know his best side, and we don't have a decent 10.  It's a worry.  The only saving grace is that Falcons look to be struggling as well, and although Worcester have been competitive in a few games, from what I've seen we can pick up points on them if we can get our act together.

I also think it's odd not to have us in that list this season, having beaten Wasps and missed chances to beat Tigers and Chiefs away, taking 3BP from those 2 losses! Also not convinced by Saints at all

From what I've seen of Worcester they look stronger than both Irish & Falcons, they just look more solid.

We had a truly dreadful start to the season but looked decent against Sale and were perhaps unlucky not to get the win in the end, we just looked like we were too nervous.

I think we'll improve through the season but if I was a betting man I would put it on us to go down. I think Irish have the slightly better squad, you just look lost.

We look nervous as well.  We just need a win.  I think we have enough quality in the squad that if we pick up a win and gain some confidence, we could put a little run of 2 or 3 wins together, it's just getting that first win which is the problem.  Andy Goode retiring absolutely killed us.  I would say if we'd had him, we would have beaten Tigers on the opening day, and picked up losing bonus points against Saracens and Wasps.

Yea Goode was a good option for you until retirement of course.

It does look a confidence thing for both us, we look much worse than last season in all facets except the scrum which is baffling. Our attacking play last season was a joy to behold at times but we've just not clicked this season with pretty much the same players. Sinoti has been a miss and Tuilagi has been shocking. Delany has played well but isn't clicking with the rest of the backline yet. I'm not holding out for much today but a LBP would be fantastic.

I wouldn't be surprised if you win today.  Sarries have rested a few and it's one of them games where it could just click for you.

We actually normally play quite well against Sarries as they tend to rotate a fair bit against us. I just can't see it though Pete, we don't look like beating anyone of any stature at the minute.

Just seen the news about Slade, maybe we're just not meant to have a good midfield Crying or Very sad

He was in excellent form as well.  Got to feel for the lad, I think he had a genuine chance to stake an early claim for an England starting jersey under Eddie Jones.

Where at though? He's played all his rugby at 13 and he's certainly not as good as JJ. I'm not sure a Slade/JJ midfield (outside of Ford) would work too well.

Agree with you there Pete on Irish, they are a side that you want to do well though and you seem to be getting some good young talent coming through. Just think you need that top quality no10 to help you out.

Slade would have been no12 without doubt, watched him yesterday and the guy has potential to be a world beater as has so much time on the ball, always takes the right options and gutted that he has a broken leg.

For our backline to work you have to have Tuilagi starting, whether at no12 or no13 as we have no players who can get us over the gainline, while all the top teams do. The sooner he gets over his injuries the better - personally if everyone was fit and on form I'd have gone Ford, Slade and Tuilagi with JJ on the bench (despite him being best back) as I think that balance works better.

I don't even reckon we can think of Tuilagi he's been out that long, we have no idea how he's going to come back either.

Ford has been in pretty poor form, 10 is up in the air with Farrell playing quite well. I'd like to see Slade at 12 but he's had very limited game time there, has he ever even played there?? JJ is pretty much undroppable, he's been our best back, would be insane to drop him.

Slade needs to play at 10.

There will always be a question over whether he suits 12 in the English backline and whether we need a 2nd playmaker. He isn't a good enough 13 I don't think.

Dean Richards said " lots of my falcons players should be in England reckoning "

He then picked out mcguigan? Pooly and co is he right ??

Not seen game but a rotated Sarries is still a good side.

Great to see figallo back on form ie having games behind him. Still really young tight head wise and to go from universally best tight head in world a few years ago to struggling for bench was weird. Shows how hard th is to come back from injuries.

Another injury for him, corbs, Cole will be curtains in my view
