The Scottish Assistance & Soul Searching thread
Figured we could do with a place to mope

So we've all borne witness to a number of painful & soul crushing defeats over the years. But don't think I've ever felt so totally deflated. Wales 2010 comes semi close, but even then that was a single 6 nations match. Not a bloody quarter final.
An absolute sickner to go out on a technicality & an incorrectly called one at that. Ohhh & not wanting to turn this into a bemoaning Joubert / the TMO thread. Lineouts ffs. One catch from a semi final. Frak Frak Frak Frak Frak
Anyway hopefully we can get through this latest clusterfark together

Re: The Scottish Assistance & Soul Searching thread
I have been pondering tis a bit. For me Wales 2010 was much much worse as we really should have won that. winning today would have been larceny really even if the chance was there.
Aslo I come away from this a bit more positive - we were all really expecting a stuffing - instead we almost stole it. This is the first time this group of players and the coach have realy looked like playing to their potential and a few guys enhnanced their reputations.
So disappointed as we could have won but not disheartened as we were beaten by the second best team in the world, we put up more fight than anyone expected, we did a damn sight better than either England or Wales did against Aus.
Still - its another fekkin gallant loss and that I hate.

Re: The Scottish Assistance & Soul Searching thread
Despite the result I'm actually quite happy.
In the darkest corner of my mind I thought a violation was on the cards. What the All Blacks did to France and what Argentina did to Ireland made that thought a distinct possibility.
Taking the ozzies so close to be honest was better than I was predicting in the minutes before the match.
The guys aquitted themselves very well and I think we are now going to be taken seriously by our peers in the 6N after such a good performance. The pack were a cohesive and powerful unit that kept a good Ozzie scrum in check. Cowan, Hardie and Dozer were a fantastic and dynamic unit that suits Cotters game plan well. Dozer in particular had his best game in Navy blue as did Greig Laidlaw.
My sister once told me that nothing someone says before the word "but" really counts.
So here comes the but....
We were very naive again that final line out was the tip of the iceberg. Restarts were a problem all tournament and we fluffed 3 in this game.
I knew we would hemorrhage tries to that Oz team, but shipping 5 teams to SH opposition is only going to finish in one way.

I said Scotland would win by two points pre-match, but I didn't factor in a very harsh call by Joubert.
It was a tremendous effort from Scotland. The attacking play, particularly in the first half, was very encouraging; hopefully Scotland will carry that through to the Six Nations.

Sorry, no sympathy - not Scottish but tbh I feel let down by the team. Two minutes and a dodgy LO (and a dodgier decision by the ref) away from saving the NH blushes. We're all now officially also-rans (some more also than others I know). The entire SH spanks the best of the NH in it's own backyard.
Mind you, some credit for getting closer than any other NH side.

Re: The Scottish Assistance & Soul Searching thread
A little harsh, Barney. With first choice teams, I don't think that the gap between north and south is that great
England made some poor selections
Wales could barely get 15 guys on the pitch because they had so many injuries
Ireland had the guts ripped out their team for the Argie game.
The less said about the French, the better.
Anyway, like others I am mighty pee'd off that we are out but I take whole heap of comfort because, as a team, we have made big strides. Ok, they were big backwards strides re restarts but let's ignore that just now.
