Easy mistake to make, Hammer.
The interpretation does highlight how things can be taken out of context though. Even so, Leinster should have used a bit more wit when deciding calls.

There fixed that for you.
Seriously, there are some properly precious people about these days, I have been called a lot worse than gypsy boy on this very forum.
I'll tell you what, some of you on here would not want to go on a night out with my mates, we call each other a lot worse things than gypsy boy, if half of you spent a night out with us lot you would have us all clapped in irons before the night was over.
Lets all take a breather, lets all stop trying to win the internet, it is what it is, we will see what happens on April the 5th and we can all go into melt down after this whole blown out of proportion debacle is decided.
+1
I reckon a night out with LD, aka the Merthyr Mouth, and mates would be eye opening and quite probably entertaining too.

Exactly, I could not agree more with this post.
Absolutely agree. There are some very pathetic people on here - it seems getting all in a tizzy on someone else's behalf has become a sad little past time for some.
Particularly, it seems, for pathetic nasty WUMming little Trolls returning from bans under new pseudonyms to continue beingn pathetic nasty WUMming little Trolls.
People like that are what's wrong with society, not the people who are the source of their pant wetting.
RIP common sense.

Should Marler have received a ban:
1. Yes, what he said constitutes a racial slur and that is a serious offense.
2. Yes, what he said constitutes a racial slur but he should have been given the benefit of the doubt and received a small sanction only.
3. No, what he said constitutes a racial slur but he is not a racist and it was said in the heat of the moment. No sanction required.
4. No, what he said should not be considered a racial slur and is nothing more than banter amongst players. Racial taunting should be permitted.
I would pick 2. Racial slurs can be very serious, depending on context, but not in this case. If 6N's had acted appropriately this would mostly be forgotten about by now.

100% of people on here don't agree with racism, I would say that.
I think the problem in this case is whether Gypsy is racism? Obviously many feel it is and many feel it isn't.

Re: Marler to Face World Rugby Hearing
I honestly don't know why though. I think it's because there is still a lot of hostility to gypsies in general. Certainly in my (quite respectable) workplace you'll hear open hostility, thieving so and sos etc where people wouldn't utter it against people from Africa for instance. Even the old Pakistani insults have generally stopped, though plenty about Romanians now! Think there's something in it that we generally (and sorry I come from a large background of white friends here) think racism is a different colour of skin, so we just think gypsies are they guys that don't normally live in the 2 up 2 down house down the street.

The point that you seem to be missing every single time you type, is that an "opinion" on whether using the word gypsy in a descriminatory manner matters not one jot. My opinion. Your opinion......irrelevant. Because the law of the land, and therefore the law of rugby states that what Joe Marler did consitutes racist abuse.
That's not my opinion. That's a fact.
Anyone denying that fact, needs to take a long hard look at themselves.

If calling somebody a Gypsy is racism, it's at the very low end of the scale.

It might be racism, it might be low end - it all depends on the context. In this context its obviously racist but it is less offensive than some

Re: Marler to Face World Rugby Hearing
I don't believe the level of abuse was there.
I think the bigger thing though is that people genuinely don't believe calling someone "gypsy boy" was racist!
And that's the general view at my local rugby club, at the falcons when ive been and from my mates.
Very few see that as racist!

He isn't, it was in response to Bumble's constant reminders that Marler has broken the law of the land.

I see it the opposite as it was clearly intended to provoke and not in the spirit of friendship.

Ah right. There is no real argument about that, he has technically broken the law but it's never going to be prosecuted.

All rugby players break the law of the land all the time. Just restraining someone by force can be assault. Ban 'em all I say.

But we're talking about targeting someone to provoke using their race as well Geordie. What level of abuse is ok before it becomes too racist? Gypsy ba***rd? I'm sure there would be comments about whether anyone knew if lees parents were married.

It's your opinion that Marler broke the laws of the land. He hasn't been charged with a criminal offence (remember John Terry?). He is not guilty of breaking the laws of the land unless a court decides so - the law only serves as guidance for courts in instances such as this and they would take such things as intent and mitigating factors into account, if he were even charged.

As I explained to the previously banned WUM:
"What you seem to be failing to grasp, is that although the law is written down, its very often opened up to interpretation by those attempting to implement it. 'The Law is An As5' isn't some throwaway comment, it's coined because the fact is, the law isn't black and white and can even contradict itself. It is down to the Judiciary to implement it after careful consideration. This case will be no different."

So abusing someone is only offensive and wrong when it's against a minority? You are just moving the goalposts to excuse a Welsh player hurling racial abuse against Marler. You really should get over England winning a Grand Slam.

Bumble. Do you feel pity for me? I come from a country that doesnt have any gypsies let alone Gypsy minorities? I didnt know until about a week ago that they were officially a race of people. I thought they were nothing more than a group of people that lived a transient lifestyle like Hippies.
