Its difficult, as on raw ability he may be better than many of those options, but there is little evidence in the last few years. He SHOULD be better than Tomkins, Keane, Dawson, Davies, Dann, Jagielka, but he needs to prove it.
Richards is cack.

He is cack, but I have respect for the guy for what he did at Wycombe away last season.
And he was a character as santa last year.
Wonder if he will be doing the same this year.

Once Jones plays a string of matches back to back under mourinho, his full potential will be revealed. Moyes and LvG didn't believe in Jones

Re: 5000-1 - The 2016/17 Premier League thread
The game today shows what Liverpool's weakness will be this season, rather than a leaky defence. It's teams with a good defence sitting back and squeezing the life out of the game. Unfortunate not to win in the end considering the quality of chances and I was disappointed in Klopp's lack of substitutions until so late in the game. Needed the changes earlier, particularly as Coutinho looked nackered. Also missed Lallana's creativity.
Van Djik may just be the best centre half in the division. I think he's superb, dream partnership is Van Djik and Matip, both tall, strong and fast whilst being comfortable with the ball.

Not sure yet, hopefully somewhere between 4-6 weeks, but could be longer. Club thinks it's not a break, more likely to be ligament damage, which could be a sprain or could be much more serious.
I definitely wouldn't say it's the end of Liverpool, so long as Sturridge's injury is only short term we've got good depth with Lallana coming back. Coutinho has been great but we've won every game he hasn't played so it'd be overstating it completely to say it's the end of Liverpool.
I think the side is a lot less reliant on one player these days.

Coutinho won't be a huge miss, they have enough. Firmino, Mane and Lallana behind Original or Sturridge will be just as effective.

Sturridge up front and we lose a hell of a lot in terms of pressing!!! Would prefer Origi start TBH.

Could be a good deal. 30+ million for an injury-prone striker who is down the pecking order wouldn't be a bad piece of business.

Re: 5000-1 - The 2016/17 Premier League thread
It would be a huge mistake to sell Sturridge.
Hopefully next year we'll be in Europe and we'll need the depth, letting go our best (and arguably one of the best in the league) striker would be a terrible idea. Particularly when we don't need the money.
I can't think of a single person in the squad we should be selling right now, we should be keeping hold of everybody we have now and making sure we build on it next year when we are likely to be playing many more games.

Agree that no-one should be sold now (as in the January window) but come the summer there are a few players I would expect to leave. Sturridge being one of them as I doubt being 3rd choice striker is really his idea of where he should be. However if he is happy to sit on the bench for us and no-one in the board room is bothered that he is our highest paid player (I think?) then by all means keep him around! Just don't think that scenario is very likely....

I would assume that you'll buy, and I'd think Klopp would look their first. He obviously doesn't like him much, and there are strikers out there who would suit

Re: 5000-1 - The 2016/17 Premier League thread
I'd honestly be surprised if we saw many players leave in the summer. Perhaps Lucas, maybe Sturridge if he puts up a fuss but there's a lot of season left so I really wouldn't be surprised if he ends up forcing his way back into the side. I think it would be a big mistake to let him go once we are also in Europe as we will need quality in depth which we have but would need to be improved.
I also think Klopp not liking Sturridge is overstated. I think he was disappointed in his level of fitness when he first got here and he clearly doesn't value him as highly as Rodgers did but I think he does rate Sturridge.

Which I think is really unfair, very little evidence of a bad attitude, got a good sense of humour and actually seems pretty intelligent for a footballer. I do think there's a little bit of racism in how the media portrays him. You'll see a lot of newspapers and an online places reporting that he "wants to go back to London" despite growing up in Birmingham. There is a tendency to characterise black players as lazy and like party boys, which doesn't tend to happen with white players. Same way they're often described as athletic etc.

You're reaching there, Crimey. It's nothing to do with his skin colour.
His holier than thou attitude doesn't help his cause. That and the fact that he breaks down (for umpteen weeks) if you so much as fart in his presence. Good player but not irreplaceable.

Tony Pulis to pay Palace £3.7m for being a c*nt
Asked for his £2m bonus early then the next day resigned. He had to stay until end of transfer window to get it.
