Burleigh lashed out at Pape and basically open handed slapped him in the face. Basically his fingers made connection with Pape's cheek.
Pape then falls down like a ton of bricks and makes an absolute meal of it.
Utterly needless from Burleigh but disgraceful from Pape.

Frak ME.
Can't believe Pappy would play act like that, thought he was one of the hard men of French rugby.

The TMO did his best to say that it really wasn't worthy of a red card but the young English ref decided to be a douche.

We should have kept going for a try there - 2 points isn't going to be enough with 15 to go and down to 14 men, and we had them on the rack there.

Had to be red. any strike to the face has to be red as the laws / directives are now. Must be the softest ever and he could have given a yellow for the dive which the ref did see or reversed the penalty 'cos there also is a directive to clamp down on simulation

I thought you'd side with the letter of the law TJ but the ref is allowed to show his discretion and it makes a mockery of the game that what Burleigh did is deemed to be more dangerous than tip tackle etc that only get yellow cards. Would Nigel Owens have shown red there?
It was stupid from Burleigh but I really can't fathom in what reality that is worthy of a red!

That was really nicely done from Edinburgh - scrum penalty on the 5, lineout penalty in our own half then another penalty to get 3 points

RDW - I don't think the ref is allowed to use discretion. wold Nige have done it - maybe not but then it would be cited and the ref marked down

Unbelievable win.
from 17 nil down to win 28: 23
WTF is going on at Edinburgh tho? The team is so inconsistent and so disjointed. Is it leadership?

Credit to Hodge for making early substitutions - Dell and Berghan made a big impact off the bench and our scrums went from getting pumped to suddenly being on top.
Stade lost their way too - they didn't look interested when we started getting in their faces and showing that we actually wanted to win.

Re: Edinburgh and Glasgow: Ongoing Banter Thread XIV (It's still personal)
Hopefully Pape is cited and banned as well. Utterly disgraceful.
Play acting or “simulation” is specifically outlawed in the game in a move that formalises resistance to a practice that has been creeping into the game in recent years. Any player who dives or feigns injury in an effort to influence the match officials will be liable for sanction

Up until half time you could argue Dickinson and McCallum was the first choice combo available to us.
Dickinson was clearly lacking match practice and McCallum was annihilated.
Berghan needs to start next week.

Call me a rugby idealist but if the ref had said:
"It was a strike to the face but there really was very little to it. In addition the Stade player has clearly made a meal of it. Yellow card to Edinburgh and a telling off to Pape for simulation"
Or something along those lines most rugby fans would be far more satisfied with the outcome than what actually happened.

Oh I agree - or yellow card Pape for the dive. Hopefully Pape gets cited for that. YOu could see non of the officals wanted to give the red but I don't think they had any choice
anyway - we won a game

A word on SHC - I thought he looked more like his former self tonight and is benefiting from getting a run of games. Really sharp around the rucks and good service.

Re: Edinburgh and Glasgow: Ongoing Banter Thread XIV (It's still personal)
Sounds like a real rollercoaster. Surprised they started Dickinson but guess that since Dell started each of the Scotland games, they wanted to give him a bit of a break.
McCallum has done well and has earned his stripes as a pro TH as a 20 year old. Berghan is older and has more of a track record. If Berghan stays healthy, he could easily tour Australia in the summer.

Glasgow won

Have we been secretly transported to a parallel universe?
Actually you may be right - Edinburgh are top of their group! 3 from 3.

Not sure but I am getting a bit of a vibe that Glove might be really upset at Pape

When I watched it happen last night I actually said to the wife 'Graham Love is going to make a video of this!'

Scotland make heavy work against USA but win after 2 minutes of extra time - England or Fiji in the semi final

The edinburgh game - do we give Hodge credit for turning it around with a good half time talk / change of tactics / substitutions? Or is it his fault that we were in trouble anyway because of his weak front row selection in the starting 15?
