First topic message reminder :

So it's confirmed.....mayweather vs Conor McGregor.
The lay public and mostly MMA fans will be most enthused by this fight. I think it's the start of a WWE style entertainment farce. People will be going crazy on social media about the legitimacy of this fight and how it's the greatest thing to ever happen. The reality is that it is chalk and cheese fighting......might as well pair Andy Murray up with Freddy flintoff for the WBA belt. The spanner in the works could be mayweather along lay off and age. Is this a horrendous scam fight or should we be excited that boxing is reaching even more platforms?

You cannot learn to defend that at the top level in such a short amount of time. So for me Mayweather stops him when he chooses. Might not KO him but a TKO all day long.

Admire your belief for want of a better word Guns however i think its your heart rather than your mind speaking. I do respect your opinion none the less if even I disagree. Hope you enjoy the fight and you stick around after like Derby said.

Nice post and points. There is very little precedent for what will happen in this fight so any of my arguments are very much in the realm of opinion rather than anything else of course even heart as I have no particular strong connection to either fighter.

Thank you Im sure I will enjoy the fight (you too) and will be here after win lose or otherwise. There are lots of trolls here who are dying to prove themselves right but either way Im not taking it too seriously whatever happens its just sport. Enjoy it.

For someone who doesnt like the idea of this fight you do a hell of a lot of talking about it.

There are thousands of examples of people who have made successful transitions from one sport to another. Whats the problem?

The problem is, a great boxer is fighting a guy that can't box to an elite level.

Name me 100 examples of someone successfully transitioning from one sport to another. You said there are thousands of examples, so should be easy for you.

You can't back up your claim. Conor is trying to go straight to the top of another sport. I doubt thousands have done what he is hoping to achieve.

Just to add, many of his doubters thought the penny dropped, during both Nate fights.

He's a very good fighter, but can't be regarded as great, when struggling with Diaz types.

Well thats the thing he has had just as many doubters in MMA because he always aims for challenges that people think he hasnt a hope of achieving. After his first UFC fight he was calling himself the real champ in the division and saying he deserved to be fighting for the title. All other title challengers ridiculed him and some posted viral clips mocking him, many said he hadnt a hope in hell of beating Jose Aldo who hadnt been defeated in years.

There is a real sense of deja vu in the lead up to the Mayweather fight.

no one can argue with his record at 145 with the crowning glory being the aldo win. but since then he hasnt done much other than alvarez who i dont particularly rate. . he became ufc cash cow and was gifted the chance to be a belt holder at the same time, any other lesser profiled fighter would never have got away with not defending a belt for two years. then with great challenges at 155 on the horizon or even a much improved holloway at 145 he swans off for this farce with the ufc's blessing. dont like it when fighters get preferential treatment, happened with roussey, brock and now connor.

Very intense presser yesterday. Anyone starting to buy into the hype yet? Conor looked massive compared to Floyd. Looks like they have hedged there game on a rapid start and maybe try to bully Floyd.
