Nick Top 2 get a bye into the semi finals and a home draw.
the other 4 play off to go through to the semi against them.
When the playoffs were first introduced in the prem whoever was top went straight into the final.
Glos were top and had to wait 4 weeks for the others to play off. the time the final came they were undercooked and got murdered by wasps

Mat - Simpson is already with the full England squad and hasnt been involved with the Saxons for a year. He was injured during AI's when they said he'd have one start and again hurt in the build up to the 6Nations.
If you were England manager how would you look to break up your squad e.g. how many props, forwards, 10s etc would you be taking? General opinion seems to be that teams will be split into:
4 Props - Stevens, Sheridan, Doran-Jones, Cole
3 Hookers - Hartley, Thompson, Paice/Chuter
4 Locks - Lawes, Palmer, Deacon, Skivington/Shaw
5 Backrow - Croft, Moody, Easter, Wood
3 Scrumhalves - Youngs, Care, Simpson
3 Flyhalves - Flood, Wilkinson, Hodgson
3 Centres - Hape, Banahan, Tuilagi/Tindall (might drop Tins for another prop
5 Backthree - Foden, Ashton, Cueto, Armitage, Monye/JSD
I've put in brackets who I've heard MJ will be taking, there only seem to be about 4 places up for grabs now!

Pooly your allowed three years to bring a case against someone if they've caused you some sort of damage, more evidence comes to light.
Do feel a bit bad for rugby players, as you do hear lots of stories where pi ssed up people come over and start on them - heard some news from Wasps about the Andy Powell incident and he just got smashed in by a load of QPR fans for trying to have a laugh with them and they just went for him - pictures went up online and he was very lucky not to have been seriously hurt!

"Phillips, who is a former Cardiff Blues and Scarlets player, had minor keyhole surgery only the week before the attack on a knee injury that has sidelined the player since March this year. He is expected to return to action in December. "
Did not know phillips was out that long.
Chris you have bought a turkey. i may have in barnes although most aussies hopeful he will play again

Re: Homepage - Page 2
Phillips was meant to be turning up on Monday for Wales training, so not sure where the Beeb are getting their stuff from - sure its just a case of general awful BBC reporting - its so good to be able to say that on a message board without the moderators coming in. The BBC are cr ap with rugby, never knew what they were talking about.
I like Phillips, one of those players that raffles feathers and would be good for any English team in the winter months, got him as a second no9 to Simpson - quite a good combination.
Anyone see the Eng u20 team for SA game tomorrow night? Reckon all the players with an # will go on to become very good club players

Think they'v bought Farrell in to mean up the defense against Francois Venter, Boys like a tank in the 12 jersey - Top try scorer this year i think.
From what i'v seen so far Charlie Matthews is some unit , man mountain think he's got a bright future ahead of him in the English game.

Robson of Gloucester is a serious player. Can play 10 or 9.
Sam Jones and ransom i really doubt
Vunipola has weight issues but then so did vickery early on. Vunipolas dad played for tonga and was always obese. Be interesting if his son can get fit. he looks embarrasing in the england shirt and is super lazy around the park. only interested when offered the ball, then he is a great carrier

Robsons been poor in both games so far Mat, Cooks offered more in both games and improved England.
Sam Jones is a good player, moved Kvesic out of position for the SA game - Ransom has got a really good running style and a big boot. Played v well against the Scots.
Vunipola will be fine, his brother at Wasps is a very good player, solid muscle and a complete athlete. He's at the right club now too with Sarries - they'll make him into a top player

Re: Homepage - Page 2
The Vunipolas are crazy christians part of a bizarre evangelical bunch. When their dad was player coach at Bristol Saracens he got them to play for their 3xv when 14and 15 and apparently they were seriously difficult to stop.
Robson is very young he is not long 19 same as Britton and Mills. it is testament to their talent they have been picked so early.
they will all be around for next years tournament and are serious players.
Like aussie players mills and Robson can play all across the backline. Robson the best of the 2 but both will be at least saxons players if they kick on physically.
Glos academy not as good this year. We have a few second row and hookers and not much else. however brain is back and is known for signing great youth and developing and id'ing local talent. everyone in the west country plays rugby so easy to find players.
We have signed a 19 year old second row from leicester he has gone into the academy but is senior squad registered

Can see Oz clubs dominating S15 next year as players have headed north for the cash ans Oz haven't lost to many as yet.

Very impressed with young Kvesevic for the u20s. Been our best backrower and should be back next year to captain the side. Thomas has been very good at tight head as well. Ford has looked a class above as well at 10. Hes going to have a very good future with England if he keeps going the way he is.
Be quite interesting to see how Ford and Farell go tonight up against the Saffa's. We could be looking at them in the main england side in the next few years together. Good test for them tonight

Re: Homepage - Page 2
Ford was head and shoulders above everyone else.
Kvesevic and Gray in the backrow very good the whole game through. Thought Jones was very very quiet. Good last 20 minutes from Matthews as well.
Agree Matt he looked quality. Saffa captain looked very good as well. Thought the ref was a bit dodgy wasnt giving much englands way at all

How many Second rows do SA have or are coming through.
Bekker, Elsdat, HArgreaves, Sykes,Roussouw, Bakkies, Matfield Estebes, Etc etc.
Same as hooker and centre they have depth to burn.
Look at england if we get an injury at most positions then we will struggle.
Think the bulls TH Werner Kruger is a top player as is Wp Nel. Nel gave away so many penalties today and has done all season but is a real talent.
Cheetahs have the best footballing front row i have ever seen. all so comfortable with ball and great hands. ebersohn the ten is also a really unique player.
Bulls losing at home is surprising. sharks really clever in leaving some of their best players on the bench to bring them on for impact. At altitude in Pretoria it is the way to do it

Some great carriers but I've seen them take some poundings in the scrum this season.

Agree pooly Nel needs some work. However they have zero grunt in 2 nd row.
Influence of 2nd row on scrummage massively underrated. Apparently lawes is poor at scrummaging where as sam whitelock, bakkies and Bradley Davies are meant to make the prop feel uncomfortable such is the power going through.
It does show. Need your strong scrummager behind tighthead as they are battling 2 players. Apparently Richie Gray is a super powerful scrummager but switches off and often hangs his prop out to dry. Murray said he is both the worst and best second row to scrummage behind him

Re: Homepage - Page 2
I've heard that about Grays scrummaging too, think he'd be better on the LH side, Murray looks more impressive at Falcons than what he does with Gray.
Not so sure about Lawes being a weak scrummager though, Saints look stronger with him than without and have the best scrummaging unit in the NH, poss the world.
Don't think Coonie or Nel are great in the scrum but they look much more solid with Strauss(big fan). Connie looks likehe has the power but lacks technique, his hips seem high and has had some beatings. He'll sort this sooner or later though and once he does could be SA first choice for years.

Re: Homepage - Page 2
coonie has destroyed people this year and on a lot of SA sites will be WC prop. I disagree personally as they will go beast or steenkamp.
Re Gray its obviously a concentration thing. Still so young
Did anyone watch the dross Crusaders game. Guildfords break and offload for Freuans try is why i rate him above any wing. he looks for work and is a footballer.
Wet conditions show a lot. Savea showed today he is miles from International rugby cant kick and most of all cannot deal with high ball. I was amazed how bad his basics were. I have read before that he is all power and pace but thought he was much more when i watched him before

Nel is not the greatest scrummager and also the Cheetahs Second row are poor scrummagers. their loose style is so un bokkew
GRays scrummaging when thinking is meant to be supercharged.
Would keep him TH side. He is so young for 2nd row. guys a freak but has too many rough edges currently. think him, De Jongh, JOC and Cole will be WC stars.
Cant say enough about Dan Cole think he is a Great and will make other THs look average. Hore 100% will go to WC. apparently he will retire and go back to his sheep farm after.
Also Rumoured that Carl Hayman and Chris Jack to retire. Been on rugny heaven the aussie site

even aussies love guildford. Must be starter for NZ. would have Guildford and Gear/Rock/Jane.
Guildord offers continuity and work rate and linking, I have decribed him as the ultimate JSD and still think that. So intelligent.
JSD will hopefully be in WC squad. Would like to see 36 also as he offers something different.
Just been in the Brunel wine vaults with Simon Shaw and Mark Regan etc. Bristol Old players session. Forgot Shaw ever played for bristol. Corry did as well although he was not out

Heard Hore will carry on for another two years and is talking to clubs this week. Guildford has been great this season, he's improved throughgout and playing some great stuff lately.
Really don't think JSD's defence is up to Int rugby, he's a liability. _Would prefer to see Sharples or Ojo as extra winger.

Went to Ascot yesterday thinking I had sky+'d all of the rugby, but recorded the wrong channel. Sounds as though the u20s finally put in a big performance and I missed it!
26-20 wasn't it? Anyone know if its on again, really want to watch it? Think this team could be on the verge of something really special, when Ford plays at 10 they have the best 18 year old in the world, plays like someone with 10 years of experience!
From sounds of it Launchbury put in a great performance (two try saving tackles), as did Kvesvic and the front row. The wasps site said they all were fantastic, pleased to see Daly get a try too.

Driver didnt realise that about Dai Young either, really hope its not the case - would much rather see whether Neil Back or someone like that would come in and do a good job for us. For Wasps I think having an English coach is really important.

Just watching the rugby now - I thought the BBC's commentators were bad, who on earth are these SAs commentating. I could do a better job, its hilarious as they can't even tell the difference between forwards and backs - first big tackle by Farrell was said 'what a big hit by the hooker' - no Farrell is certainly a centre!
Elliot Daly looks like he's having a top game, I really rate him and think he'll end up challenging Tuilagi for the England 13 shirt.
Mat, saw your comments about Twelvetrees, can't help thinking that he has to leave Tigers to fulfill his undoubted talent. He's 22 now and really should be a first team starter for someone.
Got so much talent coming through at the moment, think Farrell will end up being our best 12, got everything you need for that position. Just hope Sarries play him there instead of Barritt

Agree on the commentary Chris every kick has been an educated one lol.
George Ford's hands are fantastic , has so much time about him when he has possession.

Re: Homepage - Page 2
yeah I'd noticed that too Driver, I like how many times they say Vunipola is 130kg, been about 4x so far! They are hopeless lol.
Ford is a special player, remember him playing for Tigers when he was 16 in the LV Cup and went up against his brother Joe Ford and completely outplayed him. He controls a game very well, and actually has a really nice running game - glides through defences.
Be interesting to see how many players get into the first teams of premiership teams next season, Farrell, Kvesvic, Grey, Thomas, Launchbury should all be starters for their clubs. Maybe Short at Worcestor too. Not bad going that.

Re: Homepage - Page 2
Driver, have you noticed how the commentators think Guy Armitage is Christian Wade? Its brilliant, Wade's about 5ft7inches and Armitage is huge - guess both players are black, but would say that's the only thing they have in common!

thats just a provisional, there giving JMH time to recover and will make a last minute decision on him.
such a shame if he does miss out
from what iv been told, armitage and wade changed the game when they came on.

I turned it off mate the commentary was just plain getting on my pecks lol and the Simpsons was on so was a wise decision lol.
I'v heard they changed the game , Skys coverage is dire when Daly scored in the 1st half they shown the Saffas 13 name.
