I’d suspect Peterborough to be very good ground for the Brexit party. If you’ve never visited, well, don’t.

Westminster voting intention (Comres):
LAB: 27% (-6) BREX: 20% (+6) CON: 19% (-4) LDEM: 14% (+7) CHUK: 7% (-2) GRN: 5% (+2)
UKIP: 3% (-2)
Blimey. Apparently the lowest combined vote share ever recorded by the two main parties.
Meanwhile, the Brexit Party are two points ahead of Labour in one poll, and thirteen points ahead in another, for the European Elections.

A party with no policies is polling second. This is what British democracy has become.

Probably demonstrates the contempt which the main two parties are held in, more than any actual love for the Brexit Party.
Also highlights the awful FPTP system - according to that polling company, if such a set of results were to happen, the Brexit Party would still have around 130 fewer seats than the Tories, despite recording more votes.

There are other options. But no other options have a BBC mouthpiece working for them like Farage does.

Johnson has 50 Mp supporters already apparently....
In a race with 5 or 6 candidates...Where offering sugar to those behind you rolls..
Getting hard to see anyone else taking over from May..
Even Hunt is making no deal noises..
Johnson is the one to beat.

Got on just in time it seems - best price available now is 1/6. 1/16 at most places. Bookmakers think it's a done deal.
And they're making the Brexit Party odds-on favourites for the Peterborough by-election.
Tommy Robinson 7/4 to get elected. Bit of a bargain as he's got a 50-50 chance. 9% of the vote and he's probably in.

Tend to agree, but that's democracy and we get what we deserve. If it's a piece of filth like Robinson, it's telling us a lot about our politics and Country. Not quite so 'civilised' as we thought, eh?JuliusHMarx wrote:Duty281 wrote:Duty281 wrote:Duty281 wrote:Righty'o, I think it's time to make one heap of all your winnings, and risk it on the 4/9 still available that the Brexit Party win the European Elections.

I never really thought we were. Racism, intolerance, xenophobia, hatred - they've always been around and always will. At times they are more celebrated than others, especially when a few public figures are adept at stoking them up.

Such is the PR system. The overwhelming majority of people disagree with Robinson, but a tiny minority could give him a seat in the North West at the expense of the Tory party.

I don't know what has happened about it but I believe there is some kind of regulation about not being able to stand for election if you have spent more than a given time in jail. There was a suggestion that this might well apply to Tommy face paint.

Anything under £500 isn't classed as a donation by the Electoral Commission. Anything over £500 would need to be returned within 30 days if it does arrive from abroad. I guess the Electoral Commission, having done two thorough investigations, are satisfied with how the Brexit Party are conducting it.

May well fit the letter of the law but it does stink, right down to the 'advisors' who have helped organize the funding. It would be interesting to see if there are any donations large enough to be registered, and if not why not.

It's how most political parties/campaigns work nowadays (another reason for why I think the Electoral Commission needs an overhaul) with donations being accepted by PayPal.
There have been some donations above the threshold which will be declared and put on the Electoral Commission's website.

Polling update - Brexit Party have a 10% lead with Comres, 18% lead with YouGov and a 21% lead with Opinium. Tories as low down as 7% with one company. Lib Dems are either in 2nd place, pretty close to Labour's 2nd place, or nowhere near Labour's 2nd place, depending on which poll you believe!

Interesting to see an anti EU party doing do well in the EU elections, although historically their the only elections they do well in because of the PR system. I dont think these elections will hold nearly as much weight as people seem to think they will, although if the spin causes more people to turn out then thats always a plus.

The worst thing about Farage is that he's still encouraging people to think that Brexit is easy, and that everything that follows it will be easy. That's going to leave us with millions of people angry that this easy thing hasn't been done. It's dishonest and it's dangerous. The Brexit Party polling well doesn't change the parliamentary arithmetic at Westminster one iota.

Yes - and all the while the base of both main parties is increasingly hollowed out leaving just the die hard Corbynites on one side and god knows what still supporting the Tories, and who knows what either will push for.

The problem is that it doesn't make much of a difference who they choose, unless that person is prepared to call a general election.
There isn't a majority for anything in parliament. The solution is a new parliament.

Turns out the Brexit Party may have jumped the gun, as the electoral commision have just released a statement saying the investigation is “ongoing”.
But, in a statement, the watchdog said seeking small sums via online donations “opens up additional risk in relation to compliance with UK political finance law”.
“This risk is that it increases the potential for individuals or organisations to evade the permissibility rules, which primarily seek to prevent significant sums entering UK politics from overseas,” it explained.
The commission stressed that it was the Brexit Party’s “responsibility” to “ensure it has the systems in place to maintain its compliance with the law”.
“Our review of the systems in operation by the Brexit Party is ongoing,” it added.

Leadsom voted for May's deal three times and has now completely changed her mind and resigned over it now that there appears to be a leadership tussle on the horizon.
She's the same as the other Brexiter MPs, she only gives a toss about herself and her own career. Country be damned.

Up to someone else to unite the country for the next generation. Something hard Brexit won't do, so her word 'compromise' will be needed by the next PM, if they are to last any longer than her.
Will the new PM now negotiate a new deal with the EU?

To be fair, Boris’s PR and his idiocy, even his racism and stupidity, do they match Theresa’s Brexit fumbling, Windrush scandal, the PIP scandal and her treatment of the disabled, the funding of mental health, crumbling NHS, schools at breaking points, soaring homelessness, rising use of food banks, the disgusting mess of Grenfell. Just a starting pack of her horror show

Without a doubt the worst Prime Minister of our lifetimes, but Im not exactly filled with optimism when I see who's queueing up to take over from her. Where does this leave Parliament? Do the DUP keep their support or was that only a deal with May? Will we need a General Election in order to get a mandate to try and renegotiate with the EU?

If Johnson becomes prime minster, there'll still be paralysis in the Commons. If anything, his job will be harder than May's, because I'm sure some Tory MPs have said they'll leave the party if he becomes its leader.
It doesn't matter who they appoint. Remain MPs, Tories included, are no more likely to back a Brexiter prime minister than they were to back Theresa May, and a soft-Brexit advocate won't get the ERG and the DUP onside.
