Edinburgh vs Ulster Fri 12th April
First topic message reminder :
Another big game as the league comes to a close, two teams playing for a top 3/4 spot. Ahead of this game, Ulster sit 2nd on 54 points, Edinburgh in 4th on 51. A win here would guarantee Ulster a top 3 place.
Last time these two teams met in the league there was only 1pt in it, I wouldn't be surprised if the game on fri is equally tight. Ulster will be wanting to bounce back from the defeat to Glasgow with a win, Edinburgh will be looking to build on the 2nd half performance against Scarlets.
Edinburgh team is generally easy to pick as we only rotate for injuries. With that in mind here is my predicted team:
Shoe
Rambo
Nel (although Berghan can could himself unlucky not to start)
Toolis
Gilco
Barclay (assuming his injury against Scarlets wasn’t serious)
Watson
Mata
Pyrgos
Jaco
Duhan
Scott
Bennett
Hoyland
Darcy

It's good news they got 0 points, but we're failing to capitalise!
AS I understand as it stands, we'll know by kickoff in two weeks what Edinburgh need. If Treviso beat Zebre with a bonus point earlier in the day its all over and Edinburgh will be battling Scarlets for that 4th place spot.

Shame. Probably would have been worth a grubber for Lyttle or kernohan to contest.

Ulster should be guaranteed a home QF then probably against Connacht or Cardiff

Well that's just about that. Good try Ulster.
How soon is too soon for us to start the 1872 bigotry thread. Looking at Edinburgh tonight, we really should have nothing to fear from them as they are an absolutely terrible outfit.

Henderson has done so well today and its absolutely fantastic to see Luke Marshall back and just at the right time of the season, just hope its not a major injury for Moore

Ouch, really disappointing performance. Far too scrappy from Edinburgh who couldn't string enough decent phases together with the ball they had. Credit to Ulster though, they heaped on the pressure and rode Edinburgh's very well indeed. I'm assuming Edinburgh are sunk now?

Consistency is a worry though. I guess there was a shorter recovery time from Leinster till Glasgow, and players had more to recover from last week than this week.
Still though, can never quite be confident enough with Ulster to bet on any outcome!

I initially thought it was Stockdale and seconds later saw Kernohan struggling. Hoping I was mistaken and that it wasn’t in fact both of them. Kernohan actually took on a carry and did well after the injury occurred. Brave lad.

This was a rugby lesson, Ulster the better team in all facet of the game, even the scrum.
That blonde playing for Edinburgh though.. was totally off the pace.

I think Edinburgh tonight paid the price for flogging their players over the season. A lot of their big players looked like they were running on empty tonight
A few of them look like they are playing on their reputations as well. Bennett and Scott are not back there yet, will they be the players they once were again? Jury out on that one
That was a very disappointing game for them, they just did not turn up.

Well there you go, my pessimism won out. What a great performance from the lads, now we can rest players even for the Leinster game, wrap some of them in cotton wool and get set for the playoffs. What a season that we all expected to be watching from behind the sofa, McFarland take a bow, whatever happens from here on in is a huge bonus.

Matt Scott, yes he was! Mark Bennett not a lot better, So much sloppy play, how many kicks to touch did they miss or went out on the full?

Both then. Because Kernohan was definitely injured too shortly after.

Mightn't have been too bad as Nelson apparently came on for Burns

Yea, lost track of the subs. I did notice Shanahan at the very end. But maybe Cooney was still on the pitch?

All you had to do was win AT HOME, against a team whose pack had been manshamed the previous week. A team who had looked as demoralised and clueless as Theresa may at PMQ's.
You even gave them a bonus point try.

Re: Edinburgh vs Ulster Fri 12th April
Was it me or the camera angle that made it look like Matt Scott didn’t even try to get to Burns when he went in for the bonus point?
Edinburgh’s backline were better before Scott and Bennett came back. They were woeful and were at fault for missing (not trying) to tackle the try scorers on at least two occasions I noticed. Oh and keep Graham on the wing he is not a fullback at the moment.
It was the errors that killed them. The forwards did their job and provided an adequate platform but execution was awful behind them.
Cockers will not be happy.
Different Ulster team with Henderson back.

Didn't you get all offended at something I said last week when I intimated that Glasgow vs Ulster at Scotstoun should be a routine bonus point win for the good guys.
Now you've gotten all upset at Jimbo winding up the luvvies, which is all very good-natured and tongue-in-cheek as most of the Scotland-chatter on these boards is. You must take things very seriously in real life if you get so easily wound up on a rugby forum. Take things in the good humour in which they are intended.

I think you are mixing me up with someone else - I did not make any post that could remotely be construed in the way you suggest

All upset ??? - you have to joking.
Just calling someone out for making a pointless post
Not wound up at all, the lastr thing I'd take seriously is what is written here
You should realise by now - emotions (like good humour) do not translated well on the web
Perhaps the post would have been better added to the internal Scottish banter thread than a thread of interested to non Scotsman

You can tell he's not upset by the way he maintains scrupulous control of his syntax and grammar as his post thunders to its conclusion.
I'm just about to put my oversized water-squirting flower in my buttonhole, pull on my size nineteen clownshoes (borrowed from that nice Mr Clancy) and drive Mris Pip to the supermarket. I just hope the bumpers don't fall off when we stop at the traffic lights. Again.

Lord, I bet he's fun at parties. That denial was about as Clinton-esque as I've ever seen, and since Geoff's gone and banned fun on this thread I'm more than happy to talk more seriously.
What do you think changed from Ulster getting humiliated, degraded, belittled, humbled, annihilated and battered all over the west end of Glasgow last week to looking good beating play-off rivals this week?

This week, we didn't have a six day turnaround after a game against a fantastic team.

Glaswegian humour doesn't always translate gents - I know you're saying it all in jest but I can also see why our Ulster brethren may not see it that way given they're not used to your peculiarities...

Well, first off, they were playing an inferior opposition.
Second, we have seen that the Luvvies' roller-coaster differs from the Warriors' in as much as whereas we click and it's harum-scarum run tries in from everywhere or we don't and it's utter dross while they have three or four matches smashing, overpowering and thumping opponents followed by a week or two of sleepwalking through the motions while losing to whoever is lucky enough to have them that week. Cockers must learn to trust his wider squad.
Also Dan Dan the forwards man is a good coach and he will have beasted Ulster all week.

In fairness, if anyone knows a team getting "humiliated, degraded, belittled, humbled, annihilated and battered" when they see it, it's a Glasgow fan who saw them at Allianz Park. So the man knows thereof which he speaks...

I love a good party where is the venue - I'll be in Newcastle and Glasgow for the two May finals
I love a good joke and clever banter - not all jokes are good and not all banter is clever
It is best to be discerning and not accept everything otherwise you end up with lots of rubbish
Losing to Glasgow -simple a mental and physical come down from one of the most intense sub international games I've ever seen.
The fact Ulster were able to raise themselves this week was outstanding.
Three key additional points to make as well - Henderson was the best forward on the pitch (didn't play against Edinburgh), the much vaunted Edinburgh props were matched by two youngsters and
to be frank Glasgow are a better team anyway
