Turns out that Sterling is a bit of a **** after all, think the racial undertones of the abuse he's received in the past covered up what a prat he actually is.

A flare up whilst on international duty, i'll need to remember to use that as an excuse for unprofessional behaviour at work.

I take it you're going to flag everything a footballer does that could be considered unprofessional in a normal work environment on this thread then?

I just find that excuse to be pathetic, it's ok to act like a spoilt brat because you're a footballer, we'll ignore that you get paid millions for the honour because it's such a tough working environment compared to the rest of the country doing such easy jobs for a pittance.

Waiting for someone to do something wrong so that you can imply that the racist abuse they've received in the past has masked their true persona is classic racist behaviour.
Not the first time something like this has happened and won't be the last - it's just been made public in this instance.

Pochettino fired before Solskjaer.
It's not funny really but Ole was the one getting stick this season for the struggles of Man United, while it's Tottenham under Poch who actually have a worse record in the Premier League.
I think Poch is a good manager, but I'll be surprised if he ends up as United manager. United seem to have a backroom staff of former United players, trying to get back to the "United way". Not so sure that they will once again want to start of with an "outsider" with new ideas, possibly pulling them in a different direction.

Tottenham should have got rid in the summer - all this dither and delay has harmed them in the early runnings of this season.

Tbh, Spurs can’t even beat Sheffield United right now, haven’t won a trophy in 10 years, and sit in the bottom half of the table. Jose fixes all that relatively quickly.
Think they’ll go with Nagelsmann though.

Mourinho gets the Spurs job!
Good for him. But I can't forget how his last two jobs in England ended, with acrimony and the sack at Chelsea and then public complaints and again, the sack at United.

Mad move. Absolutely mad. Name value.
He must really feel these players deserve a kicking. You feel for someone like Danny Rose, whilst I can see Jose kicking Aurier to pieces.
It guarantees them three points this weekend though.

I can see why, though it is an odd fit on the surface.
Spurs need someone with credibility to take them to the next level I think.
Poch overachieved every year but never quite broke the glass ceiling. Mourinho has a track record of winning.

By the sounds of it, there was quite a large bit of unrest behind the scenes/in the locker room under Poch this year too

Not sure Mourinho is the best choice for a team that has a soft underbelly.

poch's was not able to bring in players he wanted to compete with city and the pool, they were consistent in the pl getting 2nd, 3rd a few times as well as runners up in the CL etc. spurs atm reminded me of leeds 98-02 under O'Leary in playing really good football but not winning any trophies

Think it’s a good appointment, in line with the direction and increased stature of the club, that Levy is trying to create. Can’t really sustain playing nice football, but winning nothing, for much longer. Poch did a great job, but now they need to take the next step. Can see why Spurs fans are angry, but times have changed. They can’t beat Sheff Utd, Watford or the Toon at home, the dressing room is a mess, and they haven’t won a trophy in over a decade

Re: 2019/20 Premier League Thread - The Longest Season
Mourinho needs the money Levy never gave Poch. Poch made it clear that players needed to be moved on and the squad regenerated. Mourinho getting that instead of Poch will be a betrayal of a manager who has made them into something special.
I never want Spurs to succeed, but no one should want this to work. The two key players, Jose and Levy, don’t deserve it

Re: 2019/20 Premier League Thread - The Longest Season
Personally I think this is a mistake on Spurs part. Winning trophies is not easy, hence why there is only a handful who have actually won anything recently.
Where Poch has taken Spurs to, one game from winning the CL and without much financial support was incredible. I cannot see that Mourinho is a step up nowadays, especially if he gets the same financial backing as Poch did.
I think the performance this year is more symptomatic of the broken relationship rather than Poch's ability. That broken relationship is why he has gone, but that doesn't stop Mourinho being a backwards step imo. If you gave me a choice of the two for Everton, I'd definitely take Poch

I mean, people talk about Poch not having funds, he spunked £54m on Ndombele and £24m on Sessegnon just this summer, and neither have improved the team. It's not like he was on a shoestring.

No purchases at all last season which has a knock on effect, prestige wise they're also unable to obtain the very best players, their net expenditure over the past three seasons is a shade over £50mil which is nothing in reality.

Interesting theory going around that if Pep does leave City in the summer (as is rumoured), that Poch will be the obvious replacement (especially now that he's free).
If that isn't a "hurry up and sack Ole" message to Man U I don't know what is.

Spurs will get two good years out of Mourinho and then it will all end in tears and he will be gone.
I've been following Spurs since 1957 and seen a lot of managers come and go. As fans we have survived the likes of Terry Neill and George Graham.
But Poch managed to relate to the fans in a way no other Tottenham manager has in my lifetime. Billy Nick was a fantastic manager but I don't remember him being as close to the supporters as Poch was.

Possibly. Although it was pretty idiotic to continue with Poch, given the players weren’t playing for him anymore, and him and Levy’s relationship had completely broken down.
Think what would have gone under the table amongst all the opinions on Mourinho, is the shrewd appointments of Joao Sacramento and Nuno Santos etc. This is probably the most encouraging sign for Spurs fans, that Jose has finally understood and accepted that he needed a fresh approach and new ideas. The Rui Faria partnership went stale, and with the same voices repeating themselves in the room, was probably the main reason why Jose’s football didn’t evolve with the modern ways, and why his teams were left behind.

Re: 2019/20 Premier League Thread - The Longest Season
Got to say, this is the one side in the Premier League most suited to him on the pitch, outside maybe the full backs.
They've never been thrilling, Spurs. Poch has had them hardworking, organised and with players of individual quality. If Jose can connect with them, he has a perfect side for him.
The contracts will be the issue to fix, but you have to sense that if they all leave, Jose can just go in and demand replacements.
It's ideal for him, but he needs to realise his problematic tendencies

Mourinho has made all the right noises public relations-wise since taking over.
Interesting that Spurs fans who were dreading a match at WHU are now in far more positive mood following the managerial replacement.
There's usually a new-manager-bounce to performances at this stage. I for one reckoned Poch would have turned it round eventually.
But I thought Tottenham would beat Watford, I thought they would beat Everton, I thought they would beat Sheff Untd. The turn around was taking for ever, and certainly too long for Daniel Levy.

Starting Phil Jones should be a sackable offence.
Great to watch Sheffield United, however - a highly confident and tactically cohesive side.

Word from my mate in the club is that the gossip within is that Silva has been sacked this morning. and to expect an announcement either this afternoon, or tomorrow morning at the latest.
Suspect they are getting their replacement lined up if they can given how they were burned when Koeman went.

Our front three couldn’t hit a barn door, and given our defence has gone missing tonight, it has all resulted in a comfortable, easy night for Villa.

It’s a shame we don’t have a better striker.
Not sold on Wesley at all.
Good win for us, but very frustrating we couldn’t have scored a couple more.
Needed the win, as we have 3 tough games coming up.
Anything will be a bonus.

Nice, fairly new stadium, big fanbase, big club with history and located in London, where I'm always hearing that foreign born players want to live. Arsenal should be a top target for any player or manager.
