The Trump Presidency
First topic message reminder :
Yes... and also the fact that he has just a touch of olde worlde charm (probably brutally drummed into him from the NY Military Academy) despite his apparently frightening unpredictability in this day and age.
Galted wrote:Pal Joey wrote:Just between us few on here... I have a feeling the Queen likes Trump.
Don't ask me to explain why but their body language seemed to be in a sort of comfortable harmony when they stood beside each other in June or whenever it was. And I think he quite likes all of that pomp and ceremony... as someone who likes being the centre of attention would.
He's a cross between a court jester and a village idiot so she would love him. Probably lets him run round the grounds with the corgis.

Bloomberg has also committed to supporting the campaign of whoever does win the nomination if it isn't him, and he has serious money to throw at it.
He won't fund Sanders....Like Bitter Hillary he'd rather Trump won than his Wall Street mates taking a hit....
Think Navy is right.........With jobs on the increase and the Economy seeing growth think the only way Trump loses is if non-voters that regard all politicians as the same see something in Bernie.....
Know already he will get the Trump hating feminists....He polls well with Students...Hispanics...Blacks seem to like him....
Think Trump will probably win in GE2020...The impeachment debacle hasn't helped the Dems and Pelosi needs to be shifted (the optics of ripping up the President's address are terrible)......
But Sanders is a dark horse.........

Re: The Trump Presidency
Bloomberg's an interesting one - oligarch or tyrant, America? Which one do you want? Neither's a great advert for a so-called democracy and 'leader of the free world', is it? Not sure either's a good look. The fact that Bloomberg could, literally, buy the Presidency should be a disgrace, whether one hates Trump or not. A political system down on its uppers...Luckless Pedestrian wrote:Some of Mike Bloomberg's ads / videos have been excellent, and I've heard he's the one who really pushes Trump's buttons - partly because he's because he's considerably richer than him.

Bloomberg only wins at a brokered convention....Sanders supporters will feel ripped off and stay home in November..

Re: The Trump Presidency
Sanders finally sneaks over the line in NH...A Buttigieg upset denied by a surging Klobuchar...
Problem for Mayor Pete is we are leaving States with 90+% of white voters for more delegate rich and poorer States like South Carolina and Nevada where Whitey has only a 60/70% say and Buttigieg polls poorly with Hispanic and black voters.
South Carolina will be pivotal for Biden...Good showing means he will get back to parity and have momentum for Super Tuesday...Anything less than a victory in a State that is fertile ground and plays to his voter demographic..
Night...Nighty.. Night..Night.
As for Warren she has much thinking to do..
Klobuchar looks a great VP bet... Those who are that way inclined should ponder a little splurge..

Re: The Trump Presidency
Interesting poll...(Ipsos/Usa today)
Which candidate shares my values ??
Sanders.......39%
Warren.........31%
Trump..........31%
Biden...........30%
Buttigieg......30%
Bloomberg...28%
Trump total is worrying.....Not sure why Bloomberg should poll beneath him....Sanders ahead is not a surprise most people like the idea of universal healthcare...Living wage for all and cuts in the cost of education....They just have a problem when it comes to their wallets being opened..
Sanders will need a brokered convention to win and I can't see anything but trouble should it transpire...Carter was an outsider in 76 and the Dem establishment tried to screw him despite him being a Conservative Democrat...Heaven help a progressive.
Carter was lucky he had a woeful field to beat too...such as the unabashed racist Governor Wallace of Alabama...Carter basically got the nomination by default coupled with the fact post Nixon people were sick of Washington....Like they are now..
See Bloomberg is hinting that he wants Hillary as VP...The bad smell that won't go away...
Clinton is that Ghoul you tell your kids about if they won't brush their teeth..

Or Clintons have ammo on Bloomberg and are threatening that might smell if she ain't online with his run?
Seems odd that a man of ego would choose a running partner with even more.... IF he does get around to confirming the union.
But you are so right in the final analogy.... "You thought you no longer had to check under the bed before going to sleep........ but Chucky still lives!!!!" Dare I say it, there's even a passing resemblence.

"I can teach anybody..... to be a farmer...... you dig a hole, you put a seed in, you put dirt on top, add water, up comes the corn...... the information economy is fundamentally different because it's built around replacing people with technology, and the skill sets you have to learn is how to think and analyse.... you have to have a lot more grey matter"' says a billionaire Presidential Canididate from Skyscraper City who is neither a farmer nor an information technologist.
Next we'll have Elizabeth Warren teaching Native Americans how to do smoke signals?
But his smart little self regarding lecture exposes more than Bloomberg's contempt for farmers (and lathe operators). It exposes much more of his real thinking.
Replacing People with Technology.
So first the easy part - replacing stoopid red necked farmers with technology that is configured by people with more grey matter than farmers to dig the hole, drop in the seed, fill with dirt etc etc.
Bloomberg is warning stupid farmers that their days are numbered. He's warning classic Republicans that their voting power, due to economic leverage, will dwindle as technology takes over farms.... to be owned obviously by multibillionaire individuals and corporations, and run from plush offices in New York, London or Tokyo.
And Bloomberg's urban voter fans cheer. "That'll learn them country hick idiots! Silicon Valley nerds will rule the world and control their own food supplies too! Farmers won't hold them to ransom!"
But the urbanites aren't listening.
Replacing People with technology....
a technology that as we speak is currently being taught "how to think and analyse". Artificial intelligence.
Technology that will calibrate future technology by itself, with less and less "grey matter" required from humans.
So what do we get from Bloomberg's happy vision of the future? Farmers get replaced. Technology nerds too replace themselves with their machines, that will no longer require continuous grey matter control. Economies that no longer need people. Rulers that no longer need votes from humans that no longer drive economies? Humans become a redundant species?
What a dumb and dangerous dream. Replacing People with Technology. So where do people go, Bloomberg? On endless vacation?
The territory is marked. Trump promises even more jobs. Bloomberg promises less jobs, less money and longer vacations. Take your pick whilst you still get a vote.

The big one in two weeks time....The Delegate-feast known as California giving Super Tuesday added flavour this year..
All to play for...
Sanders.....25%
Bloomberg 21%
Biden........15%
Anybody that doesn't hit the 15% delegate threshold here is probably saying Au revoir to WH2020...416 divided by two or three candidates is a tasty meal..
Over twice as many as.....Nevada...NH...Iowa and SC put together...
Debate tonight and Bloomberg and Bernie will be in the firing line.....Imagine especially Bloomberg as the Centrists fight for the anti-Bernie slot.

Be interested to see how Mayor Pete does in Nevada and SC. If his polling numbers with black voters don't move a couple of points, he might as well drop out before Super Tuesday and let Bernie and Bloomberg fight it out for the nomination.
Can't see passed Bernie at this point.

Bernie won't be the nominee.....Because he hasn't got a path which doesn't go through a brokered convention and the Establishment Dems will coalesce behind a manufactured ticket (Bloomberg/Klobuchar perhaps).....Bernie has a 30% ceiling while Biden/Buttigieg/Bloomberg stay in the race and it isn't enough to get anywhere near 1900........Though he will clear up most delegates in some New England States like Vermont..
Why Trump is odds on to win !!!...If/when he is shafted the Dem candidate will see the millions of Sanders voters stay at home.....

Trump is odds on because of what you've just said. If Bernie doesn't get the nomination (I think he will fwiw) it's either going to be another manufactured, billionaire candidate, or somehow Biden. Klobachar? No chance.

Sanders is a lot luckier than Corbyn in so far as he is in control of a movement with natural successors....The powerhouses known as Nina Turner and Ocasio Cortez are Sanders obvious successors...
Corbyn's big mistake is not grooming a Heavyweight for the succession the last 4 years...
Long Bailey is a real lightweight.....Whatever Corbyn had to beat Cooper.. Burnham...Smith and Kendall isn't one of her virtues..
Certainly recommend Warren's takedown of Bloomberg for those that haven't seen it...
Most People get 20 years at Ryker Island for that kind of assault.

Still a few delegates from Nevada to divvy up......But going into South Carolina..
Sanders....37

Biden........12
Warren.......8
Klobuchar...7
If Sanders finishes ahead of Bloomberg in California next week it's hard to see him not having a healthy lead post Super Tuesday....As he will sweep up Vermont and do well in the rest of New England..
Other big States like Florida come later where Bernie will struggle..
Older voters are not a good bracket for him..

Bernie would've beat Trump in '16, he lost out on the Democrat nomination because of the Super PAC's.
He's polling above trump in comparison Polls. Sweeping the board. His nearest rivals are Bloomberg, who is still on life support following Warren's brutal attack. And Biden, who has no chance.

Bernie had a tough debate last night and Bloomberg is smashing the networks with ads...Biden is improving and will get momentum from South Carolina..
What Bernie has got going for him is 'Early Voting'.............Massachusetts.....Texas and California have almost 20% of their ballots in already.....Delegate rich states..
Super Tuesday will tell us more.

Demographics are very helpful to Biden in South Carolina....Older Hispanics and Black voters are his cup of tea.....Also these ads of Bernie admonishing Obama will cut through.....Helps him too that Bloomberg isn't on the ballot..
Question is the margin of victory.......If Sanders can pick up a good chunk of delegates it gives him a decent lead for Super Tuesday...
Out of 12 States next week...Vermont....Utah....California....Colorado look good for Sanders and he should outperform Biden in Massachusetts even if Warren wins her home State....
No doubts the concentration of Centrists still in the race is helping Sanders......Why he needs a good showing next week....Because at least two out of three of Buttigieg and Warren and Klobuchar will quit a week today I expect..

Very, very unlikely that he would have done, but we’ll never know.

Sanders was 15 points up on Trump in some polls. At one point he was polling at 17 points ahead. What makes you think it was very, very unlikely?
Sanders wouldn't have faced the scrutiny on his emails like Hilary did. He would've had a fair percentage of the female vote, where she struggled, and he wasn't stupid enough to go on the attack against Trump, he would've focused on policy.
Truss,
I think Warren and Klobuchar pull out. I think Mayor Pete just about survives.
Steyer is hitting SC heavy with ads, i'm not convinced Biden is that comfortable.

Because Sanders is a poor choice of candidate. Little chance, like Corbyn, of picking up the ‘middle ground’ independents that are crucial to winning a General Election. Sanders appeals fervently to his base supporters, but has little appeal outside of it.
And he has even less chance against Trump this year than he would have had in 2016 with Trump’s incumbency advantage, a decent economy, and Trump’s approval ratings picking up at the right time.
The polls in 2016 were garbage. Clinton was leading Trump all the way in the polling race, some by huge margins, but Trump ended up winning quite comfortably on the electoral college. Sanders would have faced similar scrutiny to Clinton in 2016, but in separate areas. Clinton also got 54% of the female vote in 2016, which seems more than fair.

Could be right buddy......However Warren has 91 delegates to get the majority share of in her home State of Massachusetts plus an interest in a few other areas like Vermont and Colorado so I can see her overtaking Mayor pete...but who knows anything can happen...
Problem for Bernie against Trump is the moderate vote like with Corbyn.........Scare ads suggesting extra Tax will be in the hundreds etc....'He holidayed in the USSR'..'Loves Castro' etc and the fact Clinton types are worried they will lose the Party so won't help him....Probably chuck anti-semitism at him too....
If Bernie needs a brokered convention he is in trouble....Numbers suggest he will.
Networks won't be that helpful either and not just FOX...CNN and MSNBC are already smearing him with Communist crap and they are supposed to want Trump out.....Spinning his debate last night as a disaster but.....
When CBS viewers were asked who impressed them during the debate ???
Sanders..... 45%
Biden.........43%
Warren......40%
Buttigieg...38%
Klobuchar.. 31%
Bloomberg 25%
Early voting should help Sanders as I suggested earlier..

We might get an answer to that later this year, however.
Sanders was 15 points up on Trump in some polls. At one point he was polling at 17 points ahead. What makes you think it was very, very unlikely?
Sanders wouldn't have faced the scrutiny on his emails like Hilary did. He would've had a fair percentage of the female vote, where she struggled, and he wasn't stupid enough to go on the attack against Trump, he would've focused on policy...

Correct, but then I’m not sure any of the Democrat candidates can. It’s an appalling list.
Bernie would've beat Trump in '16, he lost out on the Democrat nomination because of the Super PAC's.

Of course, but go back to 2016. She was the frontrunner even after the DNC confirmed her. As soon as she tried to fight trump on his turf; the media, the women, his comments, she lost the election. Take away the email issue, had she focused on the issues that race is alot closer.

Biden finally admits his Mandela story was made up and he was never arrested, hours after getting the backing of Clyburn.

Re: The Trump Presidency
Biden smashing it in SC....Could run the board and take a lead into Super Tuesday..
Whatever happens after Saturday the networks will proclaim Uncle Jo as the second coming to try to screw Sanders on Tuesday..
At the moment....Delegate rich Texas....Alabama....Missouri all look good for Biden..
California....Colorado...Utah...Vermont All look good for Sanders....The big issue is if one can remain viable in the opponent's strong holds and siphon delegates..
Bernie is mainly in the more Left wing Northern provinces (Also lucky that California is the most left wing State in the US so is good hunting ground)
Biden in the Conservative South...
Could be just a two horse race on Wednesday....Bloomberg is dropping rapidly..Warren and Buttigieg struggling with the ST demographics..
As long as Biden stays close to Sanders it should be easier screwing him at Convention....
Sanders really does need to get over 15% in SC and polls are 50/50 on him achieving that..Steyer also...

91 pledged delegates in Massachusetts....The Lord's own Country..
MDPP poll (changes since Oct)
Sanders....25% +12
Warren.....17% -15
Buttigieg...14% +7
Bloomberg13% +13
Biden.........9% -9
Only one poll....But if Warren can't win her own State regardless of how well she does in California she is toast....If Buttigieg can hit 15% here and in a few other States he just may convince his donors to carry on backing in the case of a brokered convention and it will be a brokered convention....
Have a good weekend..

Re: The Trump Presidency
Truss, remind me, a 'Brokered Convention' is when a candidate doesn't get enough votes and so it goes to a convention, where they go state by state and declare?
Basically what happened in The West Wing with Santos/Russell/Hoynes?

Re: The Trump Presidency
After pledged delegates have been won in a State primary...
Around 15% of superdelegates from that State are allocated to Convention....Senior figures like Mayors...Senators...Congressmen...Committee members etc..
So if after 3900 delegates have been won during the Primaries and no one has passed 1950 on the first ballot.
The 700 or so Superdelegates vote with them on the second ballot..
For example if on first ballot...
Sanders 1700
Biden .... 1400
The Superdelegates could put Biden over the top...Ignoring the more popular candidate..
If Biden and Sanders don't win on the 2nd ballot...
Then all the pledged delegates lose their allegiance to the Candidate and any Candidate can get put over...Hillary or even Michelle Obama..
But will Sanders supporters vote for them at WH 2020 ??..
Hope that helps..

Re: The Trump Presidency
Thanks, Truss.
Really useful.
SC went according to plan for Biden, though from what I read, Bernie didn't disgrace himself and so could still have a healthy lead come tomorrow evening. Think we will see the end of Mayor Pete tomorrow, and Klobachar. Bloomberg could fall on his sword, which I think gives Warren a reason to stay in.

Re: The Trump Presidency
Mayor Pete is being sponsored by many of the same big Pharma and Wall Street donors as Biden...
He is gone because a trashing in Super Tuesday leaves baggage for 2024 and beyond should Trump win this Election (He is only 40 odd after all) and because his donors know Bloomberg is coming in and may hurt the Centrist front runner Biden in TX and California...Leaving Sanders with a decent lead..
Smart move and a VP slot may be part of the deal on a Biden ticket...I imagine his disappearance comes with a price..

Hasn't Bloomberg said he'll plow whatever is necessary into whomever is the candidate, if not him, in order to try to ensure Trump loses? Not sure how that works if Bernie wins out though....

He hates Bernie...He thinks welfare is a Ponzi Scheme...He is against Universal Healthcare and he thinks Black People are all criminals... If Trump wasn't President he'd still be a Republican.
As for Warren the only reason she can still be in the race is to take some Bernie share in the hope she gets VP under Biden at a brokerage....
She won't get it....
As for Biden he is viable in California in all the latest polls and that is trouble for Bernie....Hard to see anything but a brokerage if Biden takes a good share in the 'Free love State'

Klobuchar, Buttigeg and Beto O' Rourke (remember him) have come out in support of Biden.

Re: The Trump Presidency
Biden pretty much snapped up the nomination last night outdoing expectations......Even won the kissed by the Lord State of Massachusetts against expectation...Maine was a shocker too being so poor I thought they would welcome free Healthcare...(Must watch CNN..) and with probably the lowest Black population in the USA...Biden's firewall..
Bernie did okay in Utah and Colorado both youngish population and both pretty much 'North' West (After all I said Bernie does best in the North in a previous post and I hate being wrong)
Yes both are Western States but plenty of Utah is closer to Canada than Wyoming and Wyoming is considered part of the Pacific North West....Colorado borders Utah to its East....
I imagine it would be just as quick if you smash it driving from Colorado to Canada up the Panam Highway as it is driving from John O groats to Land's end..
So there !!!!!
Anyway back to the results....Biden is doing well in California at Bloomberg's expense so he will take a high portion there.....As for Warren what a disaster she should have chucked in with Bernie as Biden will pick Harris to try to get the Black communities out that stayed in when Hillary lost...(Pretty much taken as read though no one has informed Mayor Pete or Klobuchar)
However Biden looks a disaster...He can't get a sentence out without messing it up and I'm not sure he is shooting from a full cartridge...
Regardless a great night for him......Disappointing night for Bernie and shocking night for Warren and Bloomberg..
Should be down to two....Warren needs to endorse Sanders..
Looks.........Over !!!!!...

Re: The Trump Presidency
So all these disgruntled black and Latino voters and all these disgruntled female voters that supposedly want Trump gone, impeached, executed, assassinated and retired - in no particular order.....
.....a pale, old, jabbering white guy will be their chosen knight to end the Great Trumpian Dark Age of prosperity, jobs and less taxes?
That's the only guy the ultra cool urban, modernist, youthful, rebellious coastal populations of Democratic America could fix on to save them?
The youthful gay man?..... nah.
The strong selection of ladies?..... nah.
The sophisticated entrepreneur Hardman?..... nah.
A black guy?..... nah.
A black woman?..... nah.
Oh but I'm being terribly mischievous. There is of course a viable alternative to Biden still allegedly in the race.
A pale, old jabbering white guy called Sanders.
What a wonderful Revolution being coordinated by the brains at Democratic Party Inc. !
You know what I think? I think the supposedly furious Democratic voters are tacitly, by their choices, saying they quite like the idea of Donald in power for four more years. Though of course for party political visuals, and family harmony, they'd never ever admit it. Would they?
