Perennial World Cup Quarter Finalists vs A Team With No Clear Strategy That Doesn't Currently Play To It's Strengths, Please Come Back Vern
Historical head to head data is useless as Scotland won for the 1st hundred years but Ireland have been dead good since the year 2000, except in 2010 at Croke Park which tells you Dan Parks is the finest rugby player Scotland has ever poached from Australia.
New head coach for Ireland in Farrell vs Townsend with new back room staff
Captain Sexton vs Captain Hogg - Eurgh, there's going to be so much moaning at the ref.
I'm looking forward to seeing a healthy amount of abuse in the thread below, please enjoy.

Re: Ireland vs Scotland 6 Nations - Saturday 1st February 2020 - Match Thread
Half time summary
Too many penalties
Out back row aren’t getting to the breakdown either quick enough or when they do, being strong enough to remove the Irish jackler
Still in the game, but composure and last touch of quality are lacking
What’s Huw done all game? Haven’t seen much of Blairhorn. Ali price is mince

Well you would have to say all our new boys have fully justified their selection
Haining, Hastings, Sutherland and Cummings have all been good
Just need a touch more composure
Still we are still in the game at HT, that had to be our first objective

wow wow wow! What a game so far. Scotland still their own worst enemies at times and getting killed at the breakdown but what an improvement from the RWC! Very good aggression and some very good stuff but Scotland have to stop giving Ireland easy outs and try and take some of their chances. Haining has been spectacular, my standout for Scotland, second would be Cummings who has been a tackling machine. I can't wait for Horne to come on and add even more tempo to the game and Hutchinson on for Jones might be a good idea, the midfield have been caught out in defence a few times.

Ireland are better at the breakdown. Just kills us off when they need the ball back

Scotland should be ahead. Great intensity from them, Ireland struggling to match it, and if the Scots keep it up and cut out the careless errors in the second half, they should go on to win.

Great game so far.
Scotland? how many times have they coughed the ball up on Ireland's goal line?
Ireland are unlucky not to be further a head than they are. some great tackles going in for both side....just hope the second half is as exiting as the first half.
Does any one think believe that Scotland are missing Fin Russell?

Re: Ireland vs Scotland 6 Nations - Saturday 1st February 2020 - Match Thread
Ireland pretty much playing in 2019 static mode. Yes, they're making attempts to look quicker but largely for me an illusion of grandeur so far.
Nothing clear cut or slick looking but then Scotland are all over us.... so no time to think about much obviously, much less trying to be 'new'. We're trapped now in this game at least - not enough fluidity or familiarity with a looser gameplan but seemingly not willing to be more Schmidt-like dogged and slow it all down.
If Ireland don't find a more smooth rhythm, we're fried by this Scotland by full time

Great in terms of excitement but not really quality. Odd flashes but Scotland losing possession in scoring positions and Ireland mostly turgid.

Ah come on ref he literally fired it at Watson - in the Wales game the ref told the 9 he deliberately did it.
Where's the consistency!

They’re certainly more canny than the Scots at the moment.

Thank you Scotland. I think you're playing us hard enough that I see the beginning of Ireland thinking on their feet and talking to each. This could be the beginning.....

You can’t see either of these sides challenging France, England or Wales on this showing.
Hogg really is a numpty. No sympathy for him though after all his diving and cheap trick antics in the past.

Absolute disgrace Hogg claiming a try, like he did. Everybody pans Biggar for things, but at least he had the grace to admit when he didn’t score a try last year.

That would be Johnson the latest 10k fine.
Ref should be speaking to the Ireland players for panning Hastings after he called the mark though.
