I didn’t think they would manage to stay in it. England are just to big and physical compared to a young Italy side. They were always going to run out of legs or start trying to chase the game
Can see England getting another couple of tries before full time

Genge and George are very good scrummagers to bring on. Stuart yet to come. Very different prop depth with Mako and Sincks back.Sgt_Pooly wrote:Better scrum! They needed that. Great burst from Robson.
Really good to see both Youngs and Robson take quick taps today. A clear change in tactics. It would be very useful for England's scrum-half situation if Robson can show his attacking form for Wasps in international rugby. That's a good start.

Varney looks like a really promising player, Wales may regret not picking him up

So dumb from Genge at that ruck. Similar to Cowan-Dickie's silly ruck penalty in the first half. Under little pressure and so unnecessary. Frustrating for Genge to follow some good scrummaging and carrying with that.

I don't think it was around the neck. Neck rolls are currently illegal but the 'lifeguard' roll as we used to call it when I was playing a lot is legal as long as it's not round the neck. That replay looked OK to me though I was watching it through a squint because I hate seeing those replays!Soul Requiem wrote:Checking Farrell for nothing but accepting that is ****ing pathetic.

Absolutely gutted for Willis, seems to happen every time he finally gets an opportunity with England. So many setbacks for a player who has so much to give. Awful!

Ironic the risk of a 6 2 bench has still left us with too few forwards.

Willis jackaling, one Italy player clearing him out, another trying roll him out (legally I think as it wasn't a neck roll from the brief replay), Willis got trapped and went over his knee.GeordieFalcon wrote:Missed it, went for a beer . What happened?
Due to no fans you could instantly hear Willis scream and I might be imagining it but pretty sure there was a pop over the ref mic. Looks nasty and both sets of players backed off immediately with the ref instantly stopping play.

It's not illegal. It wasn't a neck role. Whether it should be illegal as is being discussed by the commentators is a different discussion and one I have a lot of time for having suffered a fracture dislocation from a similar 'lifeguard', 'crocodile', call it what you may clear out.Soul Requiem wrote:Telling that some of you were quick to complain about Farrell but are now saying nothing.

A horrible injury but one that happened in the course of a clearout that is currently considered legal and happens dozens of times in every match from all sides.

Yli cant play a player in any capacity when you've gone off your feet at a ruck.

Good response from England after some very poor defence.
They could do with another couple of tries here from a points difference perspective. I don't think there will be a grand slam this year so the title could be very tight.

It's a rugby incident, not foul play. Awful for Willis but it could happen at every ruck, if his leg wasn't trapped he'd have been fine.

As the laws are currently enforced the croc role when binding round the waist rather than neck is viewed as the clearing player being on his feet when he binds on the jackal. Both players then go off feet when they roll.No 7&1/2 wrote:king_carlos wrote:Can someone who thinks it was foul play explain how it was foul play please...?No 7&1/2 wrote:Cannot believe a foul by italy taking out a great player has left us conceding a try. As said I'm open to discussion about whether that law should be interpreted differently (I suffered a horrid injury myself from it) but as the laws are currently enforced that clearout happens dozens of times in every match. If that's foul play then both sides would have most their forwards in the bin right now.

Farrell being a thug off the ball cant be compared to fairly standard argy bargy at the ruck.

Ford has transformed the attack but you know that Eddie will use that missed tackle as an excuse to drop him. He'll overlook Farrell's many errors though.
It's a rough and scrappy performance so far. The midfield and backrows have both lacked balance.

Who was off their feet?
I must admit, I didn't see any foul play. Just looked like Willis got his leg stuck them the Italian rolled him out. As KC said, these happen 50 times a game.

To join a ruck you need to be on your feet. He isnt when he joins. The spin tackle whatever you want to call it is fine but the fact he goes off his feet to join is a pen to england.
