The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub - Page 9 Empty The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub

Post by Guest Wed 15 Jun 2011, 5:21 pm

First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be? appletini

Yeah I agree Notch, I don't wan't to hi jack the pub if other people don't want to discuss it.

To clarify though I wasn't approaching this as an NI politcial issue, I don't think it is, more as an economic one which could have a real impact across these Islands. It was the perspective of other outside NI I wanted to get as much as those within. No probs if people aren't interested.

Back to the rugby....... Very Happy

Sorry Rodders, didn't mean to appear rude. Speaking for myself personally I don't really know enough about economics to give you a sufficient answer. Also, I get tired of politics to be honest, cause I work in such a political environment. This place is normally an escape for me, although to be fair I haven't been here much lately. Next week I won't be here at all as I'm on secondment for a week at another office and will have no IT access. That's probably a good thing!

I thought they might've put up those banners on lamposts like they do for other events, that's why I was asking where it was. I would've missed pub ads so I hadn't really seen anything about it.

Nottins, I can think of the alternative words to Le Marsellaise as being worse. That's taking the peee out of another country's national anthem.

The whole "You can stick your $$%*?@& chariot" thing stems from Will Carling's time as captain, when he didn't exactly engender good will to all men. Plus the suggestion in some quarters that England (and France) would be better off abandoning the 6N. It all resulted in England becoming the pantomime villain of rugby, like it or not.

Cari - The beer fest is at the Motorpoint Arena. I'm relying on Penfro to get me there Wink. I believe we'll be heading to The 'pub that was saved' at about 4:15 before going to the festival.

Staggy - it's when an employee is loaned to another department temporarily.

Dreamer - thanks it'll be fine. Am rather excited about it and I know a couple of people over there anyway.

Only teasing Asbo. How good is this bloke Ayr?? plays for Clermont.

I'm just sad that my great white hope for Munster JJ Hanrahan is out of the squad altogether Sad

Hanaran was excellent against the boks. I suppose there is a lot of rotation from us to give everyone a chance.

Rebels winger jumps out of defence for the interception right on his own 5m line, misses, and David Smith cruises in for a try in the corner - Force lead 17-12

Mark Bennett (used to play for Ayr), had one game last season for Glasgow in the ML (gubbing away at Leinster), now enrolled in the ASM academy - yeah, he's pretty handy and very young (just 18). How come Hanrahan isn't in the squad?

All going Force's way, some slick handling and a couple of phases from the restart and James Stannard crosses in the opposite corner from Smith - 24-12 (the conversion from out wide is good)

Every player in the squad HAS to play in the group games, hence the rotation.

Ah I thought his name was Ayr.

Luke Marshall is back at 12 and Hanrahan is losing out on bench due to us needing back 3 cover it seems.

Rebels strike back with some strong forward drives - 24-19

And the old warhorse, Stirling Mortlock crosses to level the scores 24-24

Force sneak it at the death with a 77th min penalty - 27-24

It's a shame stag that we seem to produce so much talent in certain positions but not in others. Some of our young backs look fantastic. I've been pretty disappointed with what I've seen of our forwards. Even the backrow doesn't look great.

Had a bad experience with something like that once. My mate owed me £60 for a flight and he said if I came to the pub he would give me the money, I could get a few beers and take most of it back home. Woke up with a tenner, a debit card receipt or two and an absolute beast of a hangover!

They are interviewing a third guy on Wednesday so wont here until Thursday at the earliest.

With regards to other news, is this being reported yet or is breaking:
IRFU say Shane Horgan will not be available for selection for the Ireland RWC squad. He underwent knee surgery after end of season

Just been tweeted.

I don't think Horgan would have made it anyway. It's unfortunate for him though he's been playing really well. Does anyone know if he's playing on next season?

Good this privatisation marlarkey has gone on far too long, bring the nations assets back into public ownership I say

Yes! laughing

Stag, I just got in and I like the look of that side. Boyle is a good talent and needed to get a start whilst Conway and O'Halloran could do some damage. Big game for Niall Annett, Michael Kearney, Ian Henderson etc. We simply must get the lineout sorted.
