The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Not sure if this has been done already!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It was a debate I had with my brother during the captaincy debacle with England Football, but should what a player gets up to in his personal life be taken into consideration with regards to selection on the pitch, even if there is no noticeable dip in his on-field performances?
I am of the opinion that the only thing that matters is what you do on the pitch. If I were in charge of the WRU I would not have taken action against Mike Phillips.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
afternoon all.
I see Philips is in some trouble.
Why is it that Wales have so much trouble with players? I don't really think many other nations have these issues like him, henson, Powell.
Also, someone told me that apparently Philips has bare knuckle boxing matches with Travellers in Wales sometimes. would that be true?
How is everryone?
Thought Toner might have been in the training squad for the Irish team.

nottins - "innocent until proven guilty" applies in law. As far as I'm aware Phillips hasn't been charged with a criminal offence. However, he might well have breached some player's Code of Conduct and this would explain why the WRU have decided to suspend him under their own disciplinary rules.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Micky, I thought himself and Tuohy would have been involved. Some surprises.
Humphreys, Spence and most pertinently Horgan all ruled out of the warm-up games then- and 99% certainly the squad. No last World Cup for Shaggy
He was a great player for us, and I remember him very fondly.
I wrote an article about the British and Irish Cup. It's back, you know.

Interesting pre-emptive statement from Ulster Rugby regarding Stephen Ferris and an 'off-field' incident from 2009;
http://www.ulsterrugby.com/news/9467.php
It's quite cryptic really.

Afternoon all, I'm having a crazy busy work day.
Can't remember if it was in Munsty's transfer round up, but Luke McAllister has officially signed for Toulouse http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10732777

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yeh Tuohy as well alright.
this squad gives no indications really other than he wanted to include more or less (with some exceptions) the full amount of players that would probably be called for by people for Ireland.
Who will the 4th Second Rower he will bring then?
Ryan most likely? or MOD?

I suspect Ryan as he covers 6 and is starting for Musnter recently.

None. But it was in 2009? And is only coming up now? I have no idea and they aren't giving anything away. I guess if there's going to be legal proceedings they wanted to get in before the press. But other than that... could be anything.

Well, I have no idea about this so I'm not really going to comment on it until I hear some facts.

"Off the field incident" could be anything! Could've been a row with a traffic warden leading to a hefty fine FFS.

Exactly Cari. He could be a defendent!
We don't know, so I'm leaving it at that. What's strange is it happened in 2009 and is only coming up now.

I'm sure all of us have been involved in incidents at some point in our lives. Just because rugby players are in the public eye does not make their incidents any worse than ours would do to our friends and family

Nothing yet Stag. This is the only information in the public domain;
Nobody knows anything else, so I'm gonna hold my counsel.
Ulster Rugby is aware that Stephen Ferris was involved in an off field incident in Belfast back in September 2009.
As this incident is now subject to legal proceedings, neither party will be making any further comment except to say that Ulster Rugby has given and will continue to give Stephen its full support in this matter.
Nobody knows anything else, so I'm gonna hold my counsel.

Still a long way to go in the golf, but how unreal would it be for a second Ulsterman to win this thing in two years?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
7 shot lead. If he blows this that'll be twice in a row, and I'd have concerns if the 'I'm not yet ready' would work again. For those that don't know I can assure you that this course is as tough as they come, US Open courses typically are. Rory's currently at -10, last year McDowell won with +1, 11 shots difference, that's how good he is and how well he's playing. Unless he capitulates again I can't see anyone getting anywhere near him, and even then it's worth mentioning the course gets tougher through the weekend. Very hopeful.

Np Hobo
It's a test of his staying power and mentality now, isn't it? Could be a really important point in his career.
If he maintains the form he's in right now... he's doing very well.

Anyone need a link for the golf? Have a good one if you need it.
McIlroy playing arguably better than he was in Augusta. In any major (and the majority of competitons he has won) he has had one bad round. The key here is to try and not do too bad. Anyone think his trip to Haiti last week might have had a big psychological effect on him?
Best of luck to him.

yep got it on the tv Notch, still can't believe I'm watching it, I usually find it all mind numbingly boring.
I am planning to get up early to watch the rugby tomorrow, bet I don't manage it though (I like sleeping in too much!), maybe will record it just in case...
