First topic message reminder :

He has a fine win over Corrales - a fight many predicted he would lose.

He then lost to Castillo but got the gift decision.

His record then reads Gatti & Baldomir lol.

He made an overrated Hatton move up to 147.

He got a SD over De La Hoya.

He cheated Marquez with another catchweight sham and made him move up TWO weight divisions.

And then beat an old Mosley.

A tarnished legacy for a fighter who could have achieved so much more.

Young Zulu Kid was a fantastic win over the legitimate flweight champ. That combined with a succession of international class opponents, who, according to reports were great fighters. And 100 KOs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a massive Calzaghe fan. But Kessler and Hopkins aren't quite up to that mark.
Memphis Pal Moore too, but a lot thought he should be top 30 in our HOF where Bivins couldn't get in at all.

Numbers are numbers, I'd have to take the Shania Twain approach to that.

Wilde is a given for me, Welsh is fifty fifty but did get away with a lot of results on the back of the no decisions in place at the time and whilst some have Driscoll above him this is by no means a given as although at his best he was terrific he did lose to the aforementioned Welsh and didn't ever win a world title.

As for Winstone whilst he was unlucky in his world title attempts and in running into a decent champion, harsh truth is he did fall short so is someway behind Joe for me. Given all this he is an absolute cert for the top five from Wales and probably would be harsh to have him outside the top three.

I just think for all Winstone achieved, pretty much with one hand should put him up there. Maybe a bit of Merthyr bias though!!

Not a problem Huw we're all allowed a bit of local bias from time to time, i've backed Rhodes this weekend! Just better double check though Gavin Rees isn't from Merthyr is he?

Ha-ha, I guess a big part of it is holidaying in Merthyr when younger (oh I lived the high life!) as my direct family had moved away and hearing all the stories about Winston and later the statue.

On that note I don't think they have one of Wilde which is strange as they have Johnny Owen and Eddie Thomas as well.

Has the Rhodes fight been picked up by telly?

Thanks Scott, will have to record this one.

I have to say I think he has a chance as well. Alvarez from what I have seen (Cotto / Hatton) hasn't impressed me. Seems a decent all rounder but nothing special. The ginger Mexican thing as well, is he going to be the Milli Vanilli of boxing and it will eventually come out that his voice is dubbed and he is actually from Glasgow.
