Don't think you can have Dawes Prop. He stopped playing for Wales in 1971

Dawes mate
After retiring as a player, Dawes became coach of the Welsh national side in 1974,
so didn't play into the 80 for club or country

John Dawes not going to count him
John Bevan not happy with him either.
Fran Cotton not really happy with him either, but will let him scrape through by the skin of his teeth.
All these players who just played about one year in the 80's im not happy with, you can pick 80's players but these players are mostly 70's players.

Man up and foot your foot down then! Morne and Cotton were both on my list, but ruled both out as they weren't in the 80s largely!

Re: Rugby Union Legends Game - Draft
Dawes fair enough to disallow, but if they've played into the 80's Bear then they are good by the rules buddy.
It's all a bit of fun in any case. My team are all in it for the craic anyway, they've all got day jobs to go back to when they sober up!

Re: Rugby Union Legends Game - Draft
Bear you said they could play in the 80's. You can't change the rules now. People aren't pulling out obscure players they are picking players who were world class in the McCaw and Carter mould.
People like Cotton, Price, Slattery and JPR are widely considered as the best ever players in there position and they played in the 80's. Surely fair game?

So I can't have bevan but gibson is allowed?? Going to have to wait a while for my winger now then if he's not allowed, got things to do at work
I'll admit dawes was a mistake: just scanned about him so missed the coach part!

Bear Bevan was playing into 1982 ?? so why won't you let him have him?

Re: Rugby Union Legends Game - Draft
There were 2 John Bevans who played for Wales in the 70's. One who played for Aberavon and retired due to injury and one who played for Cardiff and was a dual code international and played international rugby until 1982. The dual code one was winger in Union and I think this is the one prop means, so I don't see why he wouldn't be allowed.

I refer you to your rules Bear...
Where does it say he must have played rugby union in the 80's?
GloucesterBear wrote:Rugby Union Legends Game Rules
Homepage
1.You can call your team whatever name you want
2.The players you buy must have played Rugby between 1980 to 2010
3.Every team has a budget of £200 million to buy whatever players they want
4.The players will range from £5 million to £20 million a team must have a squad of 25 players to start with, I will then up the squad limit to 32.
5.Foreign Transfers will be available, but you must have to wait 3 hours before your bid is accepted for the certain player, so other members of the game also have a chance to sign that player
6.Match days will be every Tuesday or Wednesday, with predictions opening straight away when everyone hands in there team sheets.
7.Every side has two injuries per month, the injured players will be picked at random and the amount of weeks they will be out for will also be picked at random, that could be 1 week or the full maximum of 4 weeks.

I said this game was Rugby Union when I first made it everyone knows that, or they would be picking Rugby League players also wouldn't we.
John Bevan isn't being counted, his Rugby Union games were 1970's. Just pick again and stop confusing me please.
We have done this well so far.

Pete - all rules are open to interpretation. You can't possibly list every scenario and state whether it is allowed or not.
The rules are a basis - not to be taken literally. I have tried explaining this to Blogs many times. Common sense takes presendence in all circumstances.

Re: Rugby Union Legends Game - Draft
I think that is harsh to be honest, the game is meant to be fun and disallowing a player on a technicality that he crossed codes in the 80's is a bit poor imo.
It's not like it really has any effect on nayone else, I think prop should be allowed him.
Rule 2 is clear, and Bevan played rugby in the 80's.
Anyway, for my centre I am going for the Wales and Lions classic crash ball centre...
Ray Gravell.

Re: Rugby Union Legends Game - Draft
The title states Rugby Union the rules state 1980 to 2010.
That clearly shows Rugby League players won't be accepted, and that players in the 1970's won't be accepted.
Bevan didn't play a single Rugby Union game in the 1980's, so I can't count him Pete rules are rules and it says in the title in big black writing that this is speficially Rugby Union.
Ray Gravell can be counted, but he has died in real life oh I don't know what to do

Re: Rugby Union Legends Game - Draft
All these old players who played 1970's rugby and slightly into 80's.
Are 60-70 years of age some of them, and some of them have even died.
Really confusing me of what to do.

Why does it matter if they are dead or alive in real life?

Bear
Just be grateful that I never went for a 100% 80's team which I was considering as I would have been pushing for the likes of Faulkner and Windsor to go along with Price as the Ponty front row, and would have been using evidence such as this…
http://www.pontypoolrugby.org.uk/build/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=91&Itemid=54
To support my claim that they are eligible as 80's players.
(See entry for Oct 1980 a fair way down the page)
Then you would have had some serious headaches about who to allow!

Re: Rugby Union Legends Game - Draft
Need to get these tightheads done asap so we can open and finish the replacement props before moving on to the free choice picks.
I am liking the look of my first 15, has a good honest amateur ethos feel to it...
15. JPR Williams
14. James Small
13. Ray Gravell
12. Mike Gibson
11. Joe Roff
10. Joel Stransky
9. Joost van der Westhuizen / Jean-Baptiste Elissalde
1. Christian Califano
2. Anton Oliver / Peter Wheeler
3. Fran Cotton
4. Robin Brooke
5. Ian Jones
6. Jean-Pierre Rives
7. Peter Winterbottom
8. Wayne 'Buck' Shelford (c)
Some seriously hard men in that team, touring with them would have been some craic!

you have some decent drinkers in there and apart from JVW who has the charisma and personal skill of a stepped in dog turd (he would be a party pooper) it would be a party tour bus

Re: Rugby Union Legends Game - Draft
I can accept players if they played 70's but in the early 80's years but 1980, 1981 is just that little bit unacceptable in my view but it does count.
But clearly can't count John Bevans as he didn't play Rugby Union in the 80's.

Glosbear - just take a stand, yes or no, no quibbles. Thats what pooly does and it sorts the issue out straight away! Its your game, so you determine who is elligible

Re: Rugby Union Legends Game - Draft
That's a pretty tasty team there Bathite, particularly in the backs. The Aus team of the 90's was very strong, as 2 World Cup wins show.

Cheers dude! Yeah its got a pretty 90s theme to it, looking at it! Went for many of my personal favourite players, heart over head sometimes, with woodcock and vickery mainly. Wanted Leota as back up hook as well, but that would be a step too far!
Quite surprised how the back row turned out, thought i would struggle that far down the rankings

Re: Rugby Union Legends Game - Draft
serious front and back rows there prop, going to be some real tear ups and clashes of styles I can see in this league.
I know what 2 wildcards I want, just need to decide on replacement prop.
