The over rated film thread
First topic message reminder :
Following on from Hero's thread of ET vs Napoleon Dynamite, I thought it might be fun to see what everyone think are the films that suck balls but get universal love still.
So tell us your top 3 films and why you dislike them so much.
1. napoleon Dynamite - 'one of the funniest films ever'. i must have a very weak bladder and went to the toilet during all the funny bits. For me, I dont think the film raised one smile. Awful.
2. Anchorman - another very average film that everyone seems to love. just don't get why everyone rates it so highly. Unlike NP there were some good moments (the rival news readers gang fight for example) but still hugely over rated.
3. The Big Lebowski - another alright film that gets universal love. Dont get me wrong its not bad but its not brilliant either.
So thats my list, lets hear your and why.

Re: The over rated film thread
It was indeed Pr4wn.
I still kind of want to see it though. Tempted to hire it on Blu-Ray just for the effects.

Re: The over rated film thread
I have no idea why it got so slated. I got free tickets and took the kids - we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The acting was poor but it was infinitely better than something like Indy IV.
Re: The over rated film thread
How dare you say anything bad about Indy IV it may have not been the best Indy film but it had Indiana Jones in it for gods sakes man!! ALthough I didn't like the fact most people called him Dr Jones in it, it was wrong and it wasn't big or clever.

Re: The over rated film thread
I would have mentioned it before but this is the over rated film thread - no one rated Indy IV.
It was seriously the worst film I have ever seen because not only was it poor, it rudey pooed over my childhood memories.

Re: The over rated film thread
I think I have been quite refrained about it - if only you know my true feelings about George Lucas and Spielberg.
They stole my childhood with that monstrosity of a film.
It had gophers in it. He survived an atomic blast by hiding in a frikkin' fridge. Mutt outran a army truck by swinging on jungle vines.
A truck went off a cliff and was caught by a tree which slowly lowered it into a convenient river.
Did I mention the Gophers?

What's your point? Gophers are evil little critters with beedy eyes I've seen Caddyshack I know what they can do. Not even dynamite and a ghostbuster can kill them, so what chance did Indy have? And you could survive a nuclear blast in a fridge. In fact I saw this black and white safety video and it said all you had to do to survive a nuclear blast was to duck and cover and you would be ok. So a fridge would be more than enough to protect you.

Re: The over rated film thread
I seem to remember that I saw them test the firdge theory on Mythbusters.
They did a load of tests and came to the conclusion that while he may have survived the radiation of the initial blast, the fridge would have been crushed by the impact of the blast. Not to mention the level of radiation in the area would have meant he would have been killed pretty much instantly after coming out of the fridge. (Either that or he would have developed some pretty cool super powers)

Re: The over rated film thread
You are forgeting one important thing, no matter how guff the film was he is Indiana Jones. That fact alone makes it awesome. And lets face it the Temple of Doom was a pile of tosh but it was good cause Indy was in it.

whooooooaaaaaaaaa!
ToD is awesome. Even with Short Round in it.
Indy IV - It had Gophers in it.
The 5 word review.
Re: The over rated film thread
Short Round was really annoying so was Willie Scott and they were two of the three main characters. Plus they jumped from a plane and survived because they had an inflatable Dinghy. Never tried it but pretty sure that wouldn't work. Oh and he stopped a speeding mine cart with his feet and was brain washed by black magic.
That's just silly.

Now i'm quite prepared for everyone to have a go at me, and slag me off
etc.
But the star wars films are seriously overated.
Team America, just wasn't that funny as was lead to believe.
House of the flying daggers, i've got a good imagination, but not that good
True grit, ok but not brilliant
ET, ruined my childhood
etc.

Re: The over rated film thread
from what I've seen I'd have to say that the following films are overrated:
Shawshank Redemption
Lost in Translation
LOTR return of the king - too long and too repetitive
Toy Story 3
Transformers (don't even get me started on the second film)
Most comic book films (usually Marvel)

Jonah Hex, not even megan fox (who actually barley had a part and wasn't needed at all) in a tight corset could save that foul movie.
Human Traffic, used to love it same as everyone else, watched it sobre and not high and it was absolute gash
Black death, four star reviews for that?
TWILIGHT! grrrrrrr words cannot express how little i care about some mopey, pale border line naughty person and his little emo crush. got dragged to the first and second by an ex and I swear it ruined us. Vampires don't shine in the sun!!
NP and avatar have been covered already so i'm not going to mention them

Fine Folk
Step Brothers was the worst film I have seen in a long, long time - remind me never to take a film recommendation from my 14 year old nephew again (really should have known better - 14 year old boys find rude words and farting funny). Not sure it would be described as over-rated, because I don't think anyone rated it anyway. And if they did, they should be locked up for the good of the community.
Other over-rated films -
Just about anything that has won a 'best movie' Oscar in the last few years:
American Beauty
The Hurt Locker (OK, but I expected much more)
Titanic
Avatar (although the visuals were spectacular - the story was a very sub-par Dances with Wolves)
Lost in Translation.
In fact, anything that opens to critical acclaim is usually a complete load of pretentious toss...

Hmmmmmm Interesting choices by people.
Jerry Maguire - Just the Tom Cruise effect. I think he jusy ruins film scripts by reading them.
Gran Torino - Just awful. I am sure Clint wanted to be down with the kids!
Braveheart - An Aussie playing a Jock is wrong. How it got best picture is beyong me.
District 9 - Just weird

The Happening - an awful M Knight Shylamanamanamanamanan with Mark Wahlberg. One of the biggest piles of poo I've ever watched, with one of the worst endings ever.
Anchorman - awful.
Flight Plan - Jodie Foster, just awful. Was she imagining it? Was her daughter alive? Did I give a brass hoot?

think some people here are simply just putting bad films on, dont think many people rated them in the first place. some of the most overated films i have seen often are the ones that do well at the oscars
crash
lost in translation
hurt locker
are just some recent ones that the amercians get all hyped up over but are pretty average. in the case of crash and hurt locker they did well simply because it was current at the time
i love anchorman by the way, house of 5 lads at uni thinks helped play it up when we watched it all the time. sometimes a funny movie can often be better depending on who your watching it with
