Would Ireland beat England on neutral territory at the RWC?
First topic message reminder :
This - to me - would be the ultimate test of strength for the Home Nations sides.
A resurgent England against a confident Ireland would be one hell of a contest.
I hope it happens.

Only if we like what you're saying Isn't that how fora go?

To be honest, before this thread I had given no thought to Ireland versus England. Lots of thought to Australia and South Africa, even France, because how we performa against them over the next few months will show how good we actually are.
To be honest I'm not even thinking about South Africa Notch. Right now the only teams I really want to beat are the USA, Russia, Italy and Australia.
I think beating Australia will be a key step. If you can top the group it'll make a vast difference.
But if you're serious about winning it shouldn't matter who you face. I reckon beating either Australia or South Africa away from home will be a big confidence boost for the squad and set the foundations for pushing on after the cup.
Roddersm, of course the Welsh love us. They pretend but we're like the big brother (do you read Foden's column?) who they fight with but love really. As for the French, they're so annoyed with the Irish at the moment that they can't focus their hate on us. What did you do to annoy them so much?

I really really really want to beat France. They beat us so often they that I now really dislike them.
And Thierry Henry is cheatin feicer. And Sarkozy hasn't been acting like one of our "gallant allies in Europe" at all.
I find their whole nation personally offensive now.

Thing is beschocked, when we beat you...we really beat you - 76-0, Ashes 5-0 spring to mind.
When you beat us; it keeps the rivalry alive and allows you to rebuild your confidence.
Linebreaker very generous of you to allow us to beat you in the 2003 RWC in your backyard. Also much appreciated that your scrum was kind enough to capitulate in 2007 RWC too. It is nice to get a boost like that to our confidence. You also have to thank Giteau for missing that kick last year in Australia. Also to the Australia team for not turning up at Twickenham in the AIs in our last encounter. You Aussies are so kind.
Also don't worry the 2005,2009 and 2010-11 Ashes series have reignited confidence in the English cricket team. Thanks for letting Cook beat a few Bradman records.
Cheers You Aussies are such nice blokes have a beer on me.
You think you could arrange the Aussie side to lose to us a 3rd world cup in a row? It would be nice to get a hatrick.
We like to squeeze just about over the line as it really rubs it in. Nothing quite as iconic as waiting till extra time to win a game with a drop goal in one of our biggest rival's backyards in a massive tournament. Didn't you know the whole drop goal thing was planned from the beginning of the match?
Funnily enough I went to Australia in 2003 for Christmas. You guys were actually fairly sporting though obviously still hurting.
