West Ham Thread
First topic message reminder :
Didn't play badly but just cannot put it in the net. We may have signed Carew this week but we need a goalscorer like a Chopra, Miller or Phillips. Until then we will continue to get rolled over.
We didn't deserve to lose that one, but good luck to Cardiff, great set of fans and a passionate club. We will just have to get those three points back later!

I had a friend who went down to see it, and he tells me it was the biggest shower he has seen.
It's the first time our mentality will be tested with back to back losses though, so we'll see how we react. I have faith that Sam is instilling the mental toughness required but we need to get back on track.

I live in Thailand and have always had a soft spot for the Hammers (I have a soft spot for Liverpool too but that's the Everglades full of hungry alligators). I always enjoyed how they played football. Under Big Sam has it changed? From his past teams it was long ball get it up em style.
One other thing, I watch the EPL games on TV here and the worst thing about watching a West Ham home game was the lousy "worm's eye view" camera position.

Back to winning ways against Barnsley....just
BBC website says:
Barnsley almost equalised after a stray cat had interrupted proceedings, but Rob Green made a fine save from Rob Edwards' header....
Rob Edwards is a curious name for a stray cat...

Conceded late equaliser to take one point against Birmingham. Sounds as tho we were under a lot of pressure during the second half. Four more bookings today including one for time wasting and another for dissent. Only level on points with Middlesbrough.

Yep.
We got lucky though, after a fashion. Was a very even game against Hull and not a great performance either. Took a long-range piledriver from Barry Robson in the 87th minute to win the game for us.
I continue to be amazed at where we are...but very happy nonetheless.

Scraped a win against Coventry. Top of the table really bunching up with Southampton and Middlesbrough both losing, and Cardiff winning.

Getting very tight now...just 2 points separating the top 4.
Shocking performance against Blackpool. If we'd just held on for the win against Peterborough, we'd be top of the table right now.

Away victory at Pompey. Sounds like a fairly solid performance. There's a bit more space now with Middlesbrough losing and Cardiff drawing.

Another win, and I get the feeling we'll drunkenly stumble to automatic promotion one way or another.
A goalscorer is the priority signing this window apparently. Had heard we were in for Rhodes of Huddersfield and might go back for Maynard, either seems good for me.

Hammers top of the table - for a couple of days at least.... Sounds like a fairly unconvincing performance tho, against Forest.... Meanwhile Middlesbrough sip up....

Sorry to read of Ernie Gregory's death. Must be one of the oldest survivors of the 40's, 50's teams.

Southampton lost their game in hand, and today have drawn away in the FA cup, meaning a replay.
Things looking promising for Hammers, but we will have to play a whole stack better against Ipswich this week than when we lost at home to them earlier in the season....
Ernie Gregory was before my time.

he was very quick but has lost some of his pace after his knee injury. Can produce something out of nothing (check the youtube videos of him, Maynard Vs QPR particulary) so expect to see some long shots. plays off the last man looks to get one on one with the keeper, decent insticts.
Not great in the air tbh, doesn't really hold the ball up.

Cheer up - you're still top of the league, for Pete's sake (2 points clear of Saints, I might add).
We've lost 3 in a row now. Birmingham have nicked our top-4 spot and we've got an away game at Leicester tonight, needing at least a draw to get back in the top 6.
Appreciate your lot keeping the title race interesting though.

Taken a half time lead against Millwall, despite having Nolan sent off early in first half. Will do well to hold on to three points here....

Re: West Ham Thread
Caught up with highlights this morning. If Nolan deserved a red card so did the Millwall player who later fouled Taylor. Hammers fortunate that our second goal not ruled out for Faubert's foul on the goalkeeper. But we were unlucky when Faubert hit the bar. Overall, looked like a very energetic performance - with Big Sam saying it's one of his best games ever as a manager....
I thought Maynard only joined W Ham to get away from fans' abuse at Bristol City...

Re: West Ham Thread
There doesn't seem much talk at the moment about Big Sam getting an approach from the FA. That could all could work out well for the Hammers.
By the time Big Sam gets you promotion in May with his own style, there's bound to have been another England scandal and a further new manager required. That might just allow you to lose the manager you don't want want but still get the promotion you so desperately do!

Another man sent off in the first half of a game. In the circumstances a 1-1 draw against Southampton is not too bad.
Haven't seen what happened but it sounds like there was a brawl.

Corporal, Taylor pushed Sharp in the chest and Sharp went down holding his face, rolling around like he had been shot. What a cheating ****

Third match in a row we have a man sent off - but this time in the second half. This time it's Robert Green, and we have no reserve keeper on the bench...

Don't give up hope yet, Corporal.
I have distant memories of Bobby Moore going in goal for the Hammers midway through a game back in the '60s and saving a penalty.
There again, he couldn't stop the rebound being netted ....

Re: West Ham Thread
Incredible - a 4 -1 victory with "Angela" Lansbury guest starring in goal.
Guildford - that sounds very much like 1972 when we lost 3 -2 to Stoke. Bobby Moore made a decent save but the ball just sat there in front of the goal for Stoke to score off the rebound.

That's the one, Corporal. More recent than I thought - only forty years ago!

Re: West Ham Thread
Somehow we kept it together and came out with another win with 10 men. It's almost tempting to just go into our next man one short and see how we do...
Big Sam made a good point about them reducing number of subs contributing to not naming keepers on the bench too:
"Three games on the trot we've now been reduced to 10 men and we've won two and drawn one. It is the unfortunate ruling by the bosses at the league, which I thought was outrageous at the time, to reduce the substitutes from seven to five.
"That ridiculous decision has caused a lot of us managers to not put a goalkeeper on the bench. We took the gamble and it paid off because Henri Lansbury was outstanding in goal."
Think it has to be ours to lose now. We have the squad, the manager, and the resilience. And we also have no excuses if we aren't crowned champions come May!
