West Ham Thread
First topic message reminder :
Didn't play badly but just cannot put it in the net. We may have signed Carew this week but we need a goalscorer like a Chopra, Miller or Phillips. Until then we will continue to get rolled over.
We didn't deserve to lose that one, but good luck to Cardiff, great set of fans and a passionate club. We will just have to get those three points back later!

Re: West Ham Thread
I think that's where he's most underrated in his technique, there was a time at Liverpool where he struggled but he really seemed work hard on it and got a lot better and towards the end I noticed his first touch was very good and his passing was also pretty impressive for such a big forward.

Re: West Ham Thread
I always remember two particular goals that demostrated he is a proper footballer and not just a bit of a Heskey:
1. For Liverpool against Man City with his left foot from 30 yards out. Absolute rocket and a perfect hit.
2. His goal for England vs France when he hit it back across the keeper. Not an easy finish, and again, great technical ability.
Then he scored that goal vs West Brom this year, and he quietened a few down. If Ronaldo or Messi scores that, people would fall over themselves to proclaim them geniuses.

Third draw in a row, home to Man U. 39 points - almost, almost safe. Wigan would need two wins and two draws from their last six games, even to draw level and assuming we get nil points from five.....

Wonderful player when he's up for it, lights up our games, but does have the tendency to tire and his technique can be appalling. Wonderful player and it'll be a shame when he leaves. Cracking performance tonight, atmosphere was good and we merited at least the point we got, and robbed by an offside goal. Vidic and Ferdinand were bossed by Carroll, I'm falling in love with big Andy

It seems everyone does eventually! Almost all the Liverpool fans want him back, quite a lot of Newcastle fans want him back, and West Ham fans want to keep him. Everyone else is looking in thinking we're mental.

It's his absolute committment to battering defenders I think.
Diame is an absolute steal. We got him for free. Free! If we do sell him we'll make plenty of money back to try and strengthen the squad so I'm not too worried about it at the moment.

We'll only make 3.5m due to damn release clauses.
Football hipsters don't like andy Carroll, but I find it hard to see anyone who appreciates defending not thinking Carroll is amazing. He works two defenders harder than anyone I've ever seen

He's a defenders worst nightmare I should imagine. Especially a foreign one, from Spain for example, where they won't have experienced the physicality of a proper old school English forward.

Decent start of the season with a home game against Cardiff. I remember the last time we started against Cardiff at home in the Championship and we were robbed 1-0...not this time. Maybe. I hope. Probably though.

Id forgotten that game, no way I ever saw us losing that then BAM. We do usually beat them though so I would expect three points. With Big Andy all but confirmed now I am in a rather good mood

Re: West Ham Thread
Lets get this thread back on track now we're a few days shy of the new year.
All the West Ham fans I've spoken too are pleased with the business so far in the summer, barring the fact we do definitely need another striker in the squad.
I went along last Saturday and saw us beat Pacos 2-1, with Morrison scoring again. Hopefully he breaks into the side this year because he looks like he can be electric on the ball. Both Noble and Reid continue to be 2 of the most underated players in the division, but long may it continue.

If Defoe is available then that'd be a decent move for West Ham, bring in an ex-player who knows how to score goals. Surely Hammers are an improvement on QPR?

Re: West Ham Thread
Well, he wont play first choice, at the moment we cannot bring in anyone till we sell cos we are (according to David Sullivan) on the cap of wage spend because of FFP. Really, Defoe is likely to get some game time for Spurs, get paid better and wont be first choice with us so I suppose there is little point in it. Id love him back, but we wont play two up top, he wont play on the wing and so really he isnt a realistic target.

Re: West Ham Thread
There was a link to Defoe but as Dolphin says the pot is now empty after spending all our money at the Liverpool boot sale.
Maiga played through the middle in pre-season and he did a decent job of it, so it may well be that we are happy to roll with him until results dictate otherwise.
I could probably see another late-window loan deal coming off in truth. Or maybe we go and get Carlton Cole from the free agents list...

Great start to the season with a win against Cardiff. We could have scored a few more goals with the chances we had but 2 - 0 is excellent.

Could have played an extra two hours yesterday and still not scored. Absolutely toothless up front and Maiga and Vaz Te were as useless as each other. Who knew we'd long for Carlton Cole? At least he might win a header.

Nolan better start scoring because he offers little else!
Our crossing was appaling yesterday, and we produced so little in terms of actual chances that you knew that our best one would fall to....James Collins. I'm guessing he's not the answer up top.

Re: West Ham Thread
I think it's until January, so we'll have to get by with Petric, Maiga and Vaz Te for now. I think a Cole deal is still on though, just need him fitter.
I can't knock our defence though. 1 conceded in 4 and that was a dead ball set piece.

Re: West Ham Thread
Same thing happened at Newcastle with us. As soon as Carroll was injured or played poorly, it reflected in the amount of goals Nolan got. Nolan is a good player but he more often than not just feeds off the scraps that Carroll produces. He's a good fox in the box but clearly Maiga & Vaz Te just aren't good enough at opening space up for Kevin or creating knock-downs for him. You will be alrite. Carroll back in December aint he?sodhat wrote:Nolan better start scoring because he offers little else!

Great away win at Spurs recovers some of the ground lost with our defeats home to Stoke and away at Hull.
Morrison a real talent - tho remains to be seen whether he can continue to keep out of mischief with his extra curricular activities.

Re: West Ham Thread
Corporal,
One of your NCO's has had a run in with the grim reaper:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/obituaries/andy-malcolm-midfield-enforcer-whose-tenacity-gave-him-a-key-role-in-ted-fentons-illustrious-west-ham-side-of-the-1950s-9078490.html
I saw Andy Malcolm play in the pre-Bobby Moore era, Ken Brown and John Bond among his team-mates that I remember. One of the few from that generation that didn't go on to coaching or management, but recent West Ham performances make one feel that Malcolm's grit would still be welcome for Allardyce's team ("Butcher" is a bit strong though . . . . . )

Q. What did the Victorians do for us?
A. A point against Chelsea gained, according to Mourinho, by Hammers playing 19th century brand of football.

It was aimed at Olly and Sodhat as I have spoken to them previously on the Euro Division League thingy. Seeing whether they can take a bit of banter. Sorry if it came across as WUM.
