West Ham Thread
First topic message reminder :
Didn't play badly but just cannot put it in the net. We may have signed Carew this week but we need a goalscorer like a Chopra, Miller or Phillips. Until then we will continue to get rolled over.
We didn't deserve to lose that one, but good luck to Cardiff, great set of fans and a passionate club. We will just have to get those three points back later!

Notts Forest 1 - West Ham 4. Third away win in a row. Big Sam is meeting his promise to make W Ham stronger away from home. Hopefully at some point we'll get round to winning our first home match...

Can't really complain Corporal, I am very pleased by our resilience away from home. I just wish we would get it together at the Boleyn! I think a confidence booster is required and even a lucky win would do it. I don't know if it's pressure or other teams upping it against us, but 0/3 (inc. cup games) is a poor start!

First home win, against Pompey. 4 - 3 sounds like a good game.... Perhaps Big Sam has been converted to the West Ham style of football.

Re: West Ham Thread
A terrible, terrible performance from us last night. We looked absolutely clueless in attack, and the only chances of note came from set pieces.
I've rarely seen a worse performance than that from any West Ham team, and the second half was just Rob Green humping it to Cole, and then Carew, and us losing the ball and doing it again...and again.
I don't mind having a direct style and mixing it up a little, but that was pathetic, and we never looked like beating them.
Fair play to Ipswich, brought a lot of fans for a Tuesday, and their side worked harder and played better football than us, as well as controlling the midfield completely. The goal was a shambles still, and we should have cleared after they hit the post, but someone lost their footing and gave Bowyer a clear shot he wasn't missing.
Our best performer last night was James Tomkins, who was excellent at the back. Nolan was shocking, along with our midfield in general!

Back up to second place with 4-0 thrashing of Blackpool.

After losing to Southampton - back up to second with 1 - 0 victory away to Brighton. Season a bit hit and miss so far - but doing better than some pre season favourites for promotion such as Leics

Poor performance by all accounts, but long have I dreamt of the day that West Ham would dig their heels in and defend a one goal lead for 75 minutes. It's a long season and I don't care how we win so long as we do!
It's almost sad that I'm revelling in grinding out 1-0 wins but I am.

That's pretty much what Big Sam has said. He will get the sack if not promoted this season and so he intends to grind out the results...

the win against brighton was important, and we are still doing ok this season. Promotion is the target this season, winning the league would be brilliant but i would settle for promotion

Another somewhat jittery win - against Leics - keeps us in second place.
I'm making a rare excursion to Upton Park on Tuesday (v Bristol City) and am meeting people there near the main ticket office. Any W Ham supporters know - is it OK to meet people near the main ticket office about 30 mins before kick off - or is it likely to be too crowded to find people in the crowd?!.

Like Jimbo said, it will be a bit busy 30 mins before kick off. If you're just meeting people, it will be fine, as long as you have a phone and they stand somewhere away from the ticket melee! If you need a ticket, I'd get there earlier. I went along at 6:30pm for the Ipswich game to get a ticket and any later than that and it would be an epic queue!
You can always buy online of course.
Enjoy the match though, wish I was going but I can't afford it!

i used to have a season ticket, but money is what made me get rid of it. I play cricket so couldnt get there every home game, and with the amount they cost, it wasnt worth me keeping the season ticket
(wish i did though)

Re: West Ham Thread
First time I go to Upton Park since early 1990s - and it's a 0 - 0 draw against the bottom side. To be fair it's certainly not the worst nil nil I've seen - could easily have been a few goals. West Ham's attack had an off day - hit the post and a few near misses. But several times had a clear shot on goal with a bit of time to take aim but then managed about as much power in the shot as a middle aged man after a heavy lunch. David James got a good reception from the crowd on his return to Upton Park.
The ticketing arrangements scored a plump zero too. Ordered online on Sunday evening - for collection from the ticket office. (The receipt said that as well). But then the tickets arrived by post at home today long after I had left on patrol up to London. By good fortune Mrs Humblebucket was in and then kindly drove the 30 miles so we could have the tickets.
One other impression was that going to the football seemed much more middle class than I remembered . Probably to do with the ticket prices. Much less of the hatred and abuse than I remembered from standing on the terraces.
Not sure when I'll next be going......

Re: West Ham Thread
Jimbo - Big Sam reported as saying Hammers had 19 shots including 10 on target and that it was just one of those days when the ball wont go in the net.
That's probably over egging it a bit - some of the "shots" had as much force as a carefully cushioned back pass. But I would probably give him and the team benefit of the doubt. If one had gone in early there could easily have been four.

Corporal, the football isnt good enough. The prices are ridiculous. Wont be going back to upton park again this season. Will be going to just 2 more away games. The sooner that fat lump is out of our club the better IMO

Re: West Ham Thread
City looked better than a bottom of the table club. If I hadn't known I would have guessed they were mid/lower mid table. Not familiar enough with most of the players to say who did best - but James looked good in goal. They gave the ball away a bit easily in midfield at times, especially in the first half. They created several decent openings, but like the Hammers lacked composure when chances opened up. The supporters gave the team plenty of support....

Re: West Ham Thread
sounds decent, cheers
usually our standout guy is our right winger Albert Adomah, hopefully he had a good game as we need him running high on confidence, same with Maynard tbh.
Ah well I look forward to the return game at Ashton Gate, on a tuesday as well!

Re: West Ham Thread
West Ham recovered scoring touch today - sounds like they were under heavy pressure in the first half. BBC website suggests Hammers only had two shots on target in the whole match. 3 points very welcome considering how many injuries we've got.
Looks like Jimbo will be well advised only going to away matches
Not surprised that Bristol City won today - as per above I thought they looked a reasonable side....

big sam , must have given them a kick up the arse at half time, as we werent great at all in the first half. However 2nd half we got the ball on the floor and started to play better football

Another away victory, against Middlesbrough. I had completely forgotten they were playing tonight....
Big Sam has certainly got the team delivering some consistent results after the faltering start to the season.

@Corporal: to be fair we're not as good as our league position might suggest. We were outclassed for most of the game. Created a few chances, but wasted them as usual.
We were much better second half - probably why you didn't get the second goal until deep into stoppage time, but can't complain about the result overall. First home defeat of the season too.
