The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

She's OK
And doesn't she know it.
May I presume when you say "She's OK" you mean as eye candy? However I have not been impressed with her knowledge of history when it comes to the Minoans ...
It's the blatent commercialisation of history. Sexing up if you will.

Anyone else think Lukey Fitz is trying too hard?
Definitely. Anyone notice they replayed to clip of him shoulder charging a french chap? Looked very dangerous and deliberate.

Well, as Glas was saying he couldn't concentrate on what she was saying, then you can safely assume I was talking about the former.

Trimble v good, surely no doubt about his ticket to NZ;
Kearney - good to see him take his place in the line;
Luke F - hmmmmm - but yes agree with Poisson R I did think he is trying too hard
Conor Murray - not overawed by the situation;
POC - what a change to the lineout;
Buckley at LH, well - everyone else has said all that needs to be said. Just wondered, presumably in the WC it will be a 22-man squad for the gaem; IF (and after this evening a big IF) Muchy could have played 20 mins as LH that would surely have given DK more options for the bench - just a thought;

No problem with sexing up history - it is very easy to do (which reminds me I have set sky+ for The Borgias tonight) provided the sexy historian gets the history somewhat close to correct

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Just noticed the Beeb report on the game. In the team lists at the bottom it says:
"Ireland: Kearney, Trimble, Earls, P. Wallace, Fitzgerald, O'Gara, Reddan, Healy, Best, Ross, O'Callaghan, Cullen, Ryan, O'Brien, Leamy.
Replacements: Jones for Kearney (46), McFadden for Trimble (67), Murray for Reddan (60), Flannery for Best (60). Not used: Buckley, Heaslip"
I could have sworn I saw POC and Heaslip come on.
Maybe Mushy was just a terrible figment of my imagination.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Readin in the papers during the week, all quotes from the players indicated that they knew that they had to go at France from the off. For the whole of the first half France had the ball; Ireland could do nothing as they didn't have it.
Second half, Heaslip, POC come on. Suddenly Ireland are hitting rucks with ferocity. Lo and behold they start getting ball; France's heads begin to drop and ireland come within a whisker of winning a match which they have only played for half of.
Does anyone here know why it needs POC and Heaslip to wake the rest of the team up? Supposedly there is competition for a few of the places still. If this is the case, why were the guys who were out there in the first half prepared to play at half tempo?

Maybe it's easier to come off the bench and make an impact having watched how things were going wrong.

I have to agree, awful first 20 minutes in terms of general intensity, protection of the ball and the breakdown... it's all well and good growing into games but the really top sides could easily be a few scores ahead if we start like that!

Some positives, but there's one combination for me that is way past their sell-by date, far off the pace and living off past glories. Hook and McGurk. Time to move on, RTE. Please?

Those of us who live over the water, Notch, don't have to put up with it - we can be tahnkful for some small mercies. What I saw of them during half-time did not impress me.

Oh, my Six Nations routine of switching over to the BBC at half time is alive and well. Sadly I had no option this time!
It's especially frustrating that they have other pundits who know the game who are just talked over...

(Is this Mr or Mrs P? - whichever...)
My point really was that all the players seemed to know that they had started slowly against Scotland and therefore needed to hit the rucks intensely right from the off. It wasn't a case of this being an evolving situation on the pitch, which is something you may be able to see more clearly from the sidelines. That was what frustrated me - they knew and they still didn't do it.

Anyway, has anyone seen any of the Borgias? Is it any good or is it just a 15th century Italian version of the Tudors 16th century English bonk-fest?

Hook is there to stir,the same as Dunphy does in the soccer although he does offer insight at times. Our lineout is a shambles a lot of it is due to Rory Best but the lifters also have to take some blame. If John Hayes was ten years younger, or even 5 we would be sorted.

It's me posting on the hubby's account Kia.
Haven't seen the Borgias although I do seem to remember a series about them from years and years ago?
Didn't watch it either though as I was too young I think. I might be imagoning the whole thing though...like I was earlier when POC Heaslip and Mushy came on!

Thomond,
Amazing how Rory's throwing improved so much when POC came on.

The borgias is a show on Sky Atlantic about the borgia family dynasty. Haven't seen it but it has a great cast led by Jeremy Irons. An Irish fella directs it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Poisson,in my view he releases too early,the ball is released around the top of his head while it should be done closer to the forehead. Would love to know how many crooked throws he has thrown for Ireland. He overthrew one or two aswell,our lifting wasn't great and it seems we are having trouble with the timing.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I had a great day. Freebie all day and I've seen my first win live v England. I think that Gatland has a point today if he's calling the ref out a bit. Two of ours off and yet not one English player. I'll watch it back, but we were warned about off our feet, yet England seemed to do the same too.
Anyway, I don't give a flip really. I am so made up. I guess I am not suited to a box, but though I was a bit restrained, I was still vocal. Our company was good (the two Blues players). I sat by them in the first half and it was good to hear how they analysed the game. Even though they were neutral (though obviously I guessed they were leaning towards their Blues team mates), they were still very astute about the whole game. I really enjoyed sitting by them.
