The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Well that was an experience....hgv driver undertaking me in a bus lane going 60 in a 50 before tailgating me when I do the speed limit and then pushing me off the road at 50mph whilst flicking me the bird.....think a complaint is in order! Rant over!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Afternoon all, juts a very quick stop in here for me as I'm about to head up to Bristol in a bit.
Just want to say hope everyone has brilliant weekends and enjoys all the rugby!
And if any of the lovely people in here who have my number could possibly text me the Welsh team on Thursday and any score updates on Saturday that would be absolutely amazing, pints will be on my next time I see you.
Until Monday then folks, have fun

I'm only a few hundred pages into Book 1 but on holidays I'll fly through it. Really really like it. Very inappropriate at times though Certainly a raunchy read.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I was thinking of buying some books I read when I was younger today. I didn't because,I would get some weird looks in the shop and two I would get laughed at by others. The unusual thing is that there is a stigma attached to reading other teenage/children's books but if you told people you were reading Harry Potter they wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Thomond I don't think you would. I worked in a bookshop for years certainly I never thought people buying any book was weird except a guy who once bought 6 "adult literature" books.
Dreamer - my girlfriend picked up the books for me and she flicked through it. She told me I'm a "pervert" for reading some of it

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
It's true that. And the Harry Potter books are very much Children's Books, especially the early ones, and in terms of vocabulary and themes the entire series is very child orientated. The last few books are more a coming of age story*, fundamentally a series about chilldhood and adolescence, friendship, love, growing up.
Brilliant Childrens Books, to be fair, but all the same... a good Childrens Book or film is one that can resonate with people of nay age despite its target audience. My favourite Childrens Books are the Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. Exceptional stuff. If I have kids I'm going to get those for them for sure.
*Hard to resist using the word bildungsroman there. You know what? I'm going to use it. The last few Harry Potter are a good example of a bildungsroman.

really? Ah I don't think they're so bad. There's not so much of the inappropriate stuff in the later books I wouldn't say.

In other news I rang the company of the HGV driver and got through to the transport manager who contacted the driver there and then

Not free yet. But I've been having exit banter all day. I'm just killing time really until I leave. I was gonna leave early but father is giving me a lift home and he's not here anyway.

No wonder he was committing road-rage against Prop if he was stuck in the fast lane in a stationary rowing machine? Was it v1 or v2 btw?WillyGilly wrote:Hopefully you didn't leave your number? All I can hear is 'God Save The Queen' from over beyond the Lisburn Road, and I wondered why until you said that.
I really think that shouldn't be the anthem for 'us', and by that I mean the Northern ireland football team, I really have a problem with that.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ulster are taking a real hammering, 26-3 now after 49 minutes. A really tough game for us which is what we need at this stage of pre-season, just wish we were fronting up more.
I'm not too worried as the French sides are somewhat ahead of us. Even Leicester took a beating there last weekend.

Good sportsmanship is putting the ball out of play when an opponent is injured.
What is not good sportsmanship is from the result throw, kicking the ball down the field and not where the opposition last had the ball.

It annoys me watching football when defenders just wrestle with players. It is annoying. That should have been a penalty for Croatia.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I like watching Croatia play though, they play some nice stuff. It always makes me so frustrated watching the two Irish sides playing. We never own the ball. Very direct and physical. Just a limited style of football.
It's not really our sport.
