The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Afternoon all.
I would say that was great to see in heinsight the players that maybe caught your eye Notch. I like the idea of seeing players and saying to yourself "that guy is going to be good". feels like you have the inside track when they start coming good...

You know who the guy who really caught my eye in that game was Micky? Chris Cochrane. Man of the match performance, couple of great tries... hasn't played a full professional game since to the best of my knowledge.
So much for the inside track
Outplayed Davies and Ioane and he's playing AIL rugby with Dungannon whilst they are with the Wallabies! Poor guy has had a massive amount of injury problems since then basically, but still!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I'd love to say I was standing at Ravenhill predicting great things for Ioane, Genia etc. but the Ulster scrum was too busy utterly bullying an exceptionally young pack for them to have any impact on the game. I believe the front row they sent were all in their first or second years of professional rugby and the physicality of the Ulster pack was too much. At this stage, most of the players had only experienced club rugby in Australia and not Super Rugby with a few notable exceptions.
So a fairly ordinary winger for Ulster looked great and the likes of these guys who have gone on to become such big stars a few years down the line looked impotent. 24-0 the final score.
An object lesson for all the people hurling abuse at the backs from Saturdays game against Scotland. Also a lesson that sometimes it's tough learning experiences that make a player and there's no such thing as instant success. Even for guys as talented as some of those Reds players.

I miss you too Munsty, you don't bring me flowers anymore..
I have just been bogged down with band of late and work. so haven't been in that much. also herselfs parents are away so I have been too busy not having sex in her place.. i.e. fixing all the things her dad does in the house and getting no thanks for it. well apart from dynamite cooking.
won't be watching the game tonight sport, I have band practice. I am doing a concert with Sonny Knowles on Friday.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonny_Knowles
Hoping it doesn't run on too long. the type of crowd he gets in (coffin dodgers) might want to get back home for the end of the late late show

Yeah, that too. Cochrane hasn't had any breaks. I like him and think he's a good player but he struggled to put on enough muscle then his hamstrings went to hell. Hopefully he can get his chance soon.
I love how that wikipedia entry specifies he's not Beyonce Knowles grandad. have a good gig dude

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
A bit of an exclusive for you guys.
This is going to be officially announced in the next couple of days but I want to give you guys a heads up first, even though you cant act on it yet!
We are about to launch a 606v2 shop.
At the moment it is rugby replica tops only but it will grow over time. There is quite a good selection of international tops, as well as the Ospreys & Glaws tops.
Every top we offer will have a discount on it - so dont go ordering any elsewhere just yet!
The reason why I am telling you ahead of launch is that I know that a few of you have already ordered your new tops for next season. Dont!
We are just waiting for Kooga to sort out the ordering system at their end - they are trying to figure out how to apply the discounts.
I know time is getting on, which is why I am telling you before you order any new tops!
So, save your pennies!

Good idea in theory alright Hobo..
I have my jerseys for the new year but am still undecided about Ireland gear so if that's going, I will take a look.
I would like to see the mobile version of this released as well in a side note

What are peoples thoughts n replica strips? I never buy them.
I only own ones that have been bought for me as presents. I see them as overpriced and gimmicky.

I buy them. I can’t disagree that they’re over priced though.
But I see it as an investment in the club. Which panders to my philanthropic nature.
I’m definitely getting the new Leinster strip, didn’t like the last one, but the new one is very nice.

I'd be much more likely to buy a 'classic' style jersey or just everyday wear with the teams brand on it. I own several hats and scarves with Ulster brand that I like to wear to matches.
I'd buy a hoodie or T-shirt designed like that if it looked nice.

To answer the questions about the tops, I am trying my best to get the exeter one as well (I have talked to Samurai so bear with me)
The other tops will be KooGa at launch but others later hopefully.
The international top selection is good, and both of the club kits they do are very nice.

I am a sucker for the jerseys Notch but always end up wearing the retro ones (well retro in the sense that more than 3 years old)
I do have the new one and really like it. I am quite a casual person in my clothes and tend to wear jerseys during the weekend or what ever. so this suits me

I'd buy more jerseys if I had the money.
On the related note, I always try to wear the colours of the team I am going to support. It annoys me when people don't to be honest.

I like to do that, I WILL be wearing my Ireland replica jersey on the 20th!
Thing is, Ireland being Ireland, I always end up wearing a coat over it. C'est la vie.

Its kinda true about colours. I have an old navy Irish rugby training kit that I wore to many games. But wearing a green Munster shirt at other matches have felt the more correct thing to do.

I have a few Wakefield shirts and try to get the new England shirt. Looks like the latest one will have to be for my birthday though.

I just think that showing your team colours helps the team in some weird sort of way.

Hi Irish London
Welcome to the pub. Should be 1pm tomorrow I think. Thats what it was last week.
Munsty I get what your saying. Its the colours that the players see. When its tough and they are tired if they look at crowd and its completely blue, red, green, white etc its something they can see.
They can't see if its this season or last seasons kit

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Anyone see that program the other night about the way people percieve colours on BBC2?
Apparantly there is some sound scientific evidence to support the fact that wearing the colour red gives sports people an advantage.
This study showed two set of penalty takers in soccer, one in red and one in blue and the team in red had lower serotonin levels which suggest the team in red were less anxious than the team in blue.
There was some other study done on the world judo championships that found a deproportionate number of winners were wearing red rather than blue and that judges favoured competitors in red.
Does this mean Munster and Wales have an unfair advantage?

It's alright, the burn never got too bad due to the downpour.
Anyway, we got our picture with the Fijians. That's enough for me.
