Rangers: Walter Smith group drops bid for club
"... Green was quick to invite Smith and his backers on board, offering to take the 64-year-old on as chairman of the football club.
However, Smith and his associates have declined to combine forces with Green's consortium. ...
We are therefore withdrawing completely from the process "
Not sure what this proves - perhaps Walter Smith and his associates are not really that interested in helping to save Rangers?

I think it means they do not trust Green......
And I cant say I blame them.....
The man has lied to the fans and staff already. He cannot be trusted.

Disappointing if Walter has gone for good, maybe he was expecting more from the fans but if so he should have said so.

Re: Rangers News
Its bad news that Walter and his consortium don't want in. I guess they don't like what Green is doing and that should be a worry for Rangers fans.
I would have to say though Walters consortium hardly made him an offer that was acceptable. Green paid £5.5m for the assets of Old Rangers. He also paid £500k exclusivity then the months work he's put in. He was making nothing he was losing money!
At the end of the day Green is a business man and is doing it for the money. So make him an offer he will accept or don't bother. Walter and his pals just never wanted the blood on their hands of being the ones who finished off Rangers. They wanted Green to do all the dirty work and get no profit for his trouble.

Re: Rangers News
What chance do they think they've got when Sir Walter withdrew his bid? Rangers might be put on a merry-go-round of buyers.

I don't understand why people are still coming in, is it because it's a Newco? Where were they before? Are they going to pay the 20 Million Green wants and then sell it on for a profit?

Re: Rangers News
I don't know if Green even has full ownership yet but imagine he can still sell it, the deadline that Duff and Phelps made has gone and are in the process of handing it over to Green, if that will be possible.

Re: Rangers News
The administrators were corrupt, they found out. Didn't they work with Whyte or something?
And there's the thing with player contracts. I don't think they belong to THE Rangers, surely the contracts would only be valid for Rangers FC and not The Rangers FC. Don't know why anyo player would want to hang around at Rangers just now.

I'd imagine the contracts are assumed by the new company. Doubt the players care as long as they're paid.

Re: Rangers News
The players contracts are transfered over with TUPE so they get there full wages but i believe many are free to walk or go dirt cheap, as soon as the transfer window opens the team will be no more, lets hope Green has the money to replace them with half decent players depending on what league they are in.
Craig Whyte appointed Duff and Phelps and HMRC agreed i believe, one individual who i cannot remember ties them all together.

Why do Rangers want back in the SPL? They've been wanting away for ages and now that they have a chance, they want back.

Disgusting news if they do go ahead and buy Bury
If Rangers want to be in the English leagues they must start right from the bottom

Re: Rangers News
It's a total non-starter anyway.
English FA, Scottish FA and UEFA would all have to approve a move to any English division. Never going to happen.

Frankly its insulting to football in general.
Would make my year if it happens and they were to be slapped with a 20 point penalty for being in administration, and end up relegated.

Technically its not Rangers moving. Its being rebranded a la Cardiff and moving to a new stadium.

That wouldn't be fair on Bury. I say let them join and then relegate them all the way to tier 37 of the English Football Leagues (I believe that is the lowest)

Re: Rangers News
I am aBury fan and think it is quite funny how much publicity this has got our club. The directors made a statement this morning which basically said, we welcome the investment but are a local club and wont be leaving Bury. If they want to invest and bring their money and players to Gigg Lane then I would be quite happy with that

Is that a definite? If so, Hearts, Hibs and DUFC all say no. Possibly Aberdeen and St Johnstone say no too. There's the 5 then.

Re: Rangers News
“Following what was a robust and constructive meeting, the Club’s position on how we will vote was substantiated by the viewpoint of the various supporters groups,” the statement read. “The meeting finished with all in agreement as to what the correct course of action would be.
“The Board of Directors of Dundee United are unequivocal in the belief that a form of sporting punishment must form part of the reasoning behind any decision made and, therefore, cannot vote the newco into the SPL.
“General sporting integrity and, more importantly, the integrity of Scottish football must also play a significant part in the decision making process.
“It is our belief that any form of sporting punishment must be unambiguous in the message it displays.
“We would encourage our supporters to purchase season ticket books as a show of support to our club. The Board of Directors will act in the best interest of Dundee United and our supporters and Scottish football on this matter. The financial consequences of not showing this support for our club are extremely serious.”

Re: Rangers News
I live in Dundee and the 2 papers we have essentially gave them no choice. I think we want to see Dundee back in the SPL more than anything. Derby > any OF game really.
Think Motherwell may vote against them too. Could be 8-4 in the "No" direction.

Re: Rangers News
End of the day can Rangers and their fans really expect any different result than to be voted out. I don't support any league side but really only one decision can be made.
They broke the rules and the said punishment is written in stone. The Gers and their fans can't really have any complaint whatsoever. Let us remember as well (if Gers play the sympathy card) that they and Celtic have long been desperate to desert the SPL and not give a second thought to the teams left behind and what it could mean to them. They have made their bed - they can lie in it.

Re: Rangers News
I have no issue with clubs voting us out and rangers ending in third division, it's there prerogative.
My issue comes with the clubs who want it all ways, but as long as it benefits them.
I.E rangers in the SPL but crippled by sanctions for first three seasons that they are not a threat to the top 6.
