First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Lionel Nallet photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

I do a lot of work for charity this weekend I'm doing a 100 mile cycle ride in aid of a local lad who needs treatment in the USA.
One thing that I will not do is get involved with any charity that has most of the £ going toward administration.

Last year I was asked to be involved with a charity that has a office here in Wales, I wont name the charity but over half of the money collected went towards admin costs but that would explain why the agent who came to see me had a new company car.

I'd like to think that the links people have will mean the admin costs are kept low. I'm not saying that money doesn't go to head offices but all the money which we get is used for either wages of staff (which isn't high at all) or used to support the young people we work with.

I just feel that your comment calling Barnardo's bar stewards is unnecessary with regards to the people involved and where the money is going.

As I said before I do a lot of charity work and I have great fun doing it and when you meet the people who you have been collecting for it makes it all worthwhile and you tend to find that even with their problems they still manage to keep their sense of humour.

The article says 'Fifa ranking points are accumulated according to results, the importance of the matches played and the strength of the opposing teams,' so it must sort of be right, but you'd never say England were the fourth-best side in the world, would you?

Ha,

it's just not really good enough though for some reason.

ourselves, scotland and wales should be catching some in the net from the English leagues through the granny rule if need be..

England cap too many players just once just to lock them down to them just in case

I read somewhere the other day, about a former England footballer slagging off playing for England internationally cause it was "a waste of time". To be fair it was something he'd written in his autobiography, but that's not very nice is it?

He should use it as a motivation not to feel like that again. because Murray will be ahead of him permanently come next season for you guys I feel. depending if he continue to progress the way he is

Staggy - I wasn't surprised to read it, as England players have been criticised for their commitment to the intenational team before. I just didn't think it was something a player would want to make public.

Tomas O'Leary can go down two routes; Tommy Bowe didn't make the cut in 2007, and worked himself into the ground in the following season. He was the best player in Ireland and we lost him to Wales as a result of his incredible form, which was a serious blow to Ulster and Irish Rugby. So he could make like Tommy Bowe and improve as a player. Or he can give up, and it will be Murray and Williams for Munster within a year.

You say it will be hard to motivate himself but these next two months are possibly the most crucial of his career. If he doesn't bounce back he'll lose his place. And if he loses his place his career will stall and he'll fade away.

Not sure Tommy Bowe was "the best player in Ireland" in 2007.

I'd say their situations are very different. O'Leary is a proven international whose place in Heineken Cup and Grandslam winning teams was certain. He got quite a lot of international caps and was selected for the Lions.

Tommy Bowe won the IRUPA player of the season award for 2007/2008 Stag (and then again in 2009/2010). It's voted for by all the professional rugby players in Ireland. That's why I say he was the best player in Ireland that year, the same way Isa Nacewa was considered by his peers to be the best in Ireland this year.

I've made no reference to his form before the World Cup, I'm referring directly to his form after the World Cup in the season 2007/2008 and holding him up as an example to follow in terms of reacting to being cut from the WC squad Headscratch

Gordon D'Arcy won it in 2007, but Tommy won it in 2008 and again in 2010. He was Young Player of the Year in 2003 too. I think Tommy's probably the only Irishman to get the Welsh equivalent (WRPA) of these awards as well Smile
