Re: Golf Quiz[z]
Hi Mac,
Yes. Just a different take on the matter. Your comparison indicating that the U.S. has slightly more courses available per individual is a surprise. A major reason could be that the U.K. has a limited amount of land mass for developing golf courses. Quality also a consideration, based on my travels through most of the 48 States (minus Alaska and Hawaii) there are a number that are golf courses in name only.
But I, like most others here, would take a stab at any course at least once no matter the conditions. Always fantasized what it would be like to play on something untraditional like a concrete or hardwood course. Probably the only way the yardage will increase for my shots.
Perhaps another comparison would be the number of rounds played per year by country. That would reveal a greater participation or interest per capita.

We have probably not done this subject justice as venice suggests. There may be more courses in the US but given the differing systems and club structures that may not mean as wide a demographic have access to the game as is the case in the UK.
The USA has more courses per capita and somehow, if the numbers are to be believed, more courses per Km2. I would like to see some numbers on people actually participating in the game and where and how often they do so. The golf course building boom in the US in the 90’s must mean a fair number of those are now laying unused or empty.
For the time being I would agree with you, I am dumbfounded.

Re: Golf Quiz[z]
Of above mentioned countries, Canada has most courses per capita.
Obviously I have excluded small nations, like Bermuda.
