England ODI side in India?
First topic message reminder :
After Englands impressive one-day series against India their next challenge is against India in India. A lot of their bid dogs will be back so this will prove to be a tough series for them. What I ask is what would you be your one-day side against India? Here's mine-
1) Alistair Cook (C)
2) Craig Kieswetter (W-K)
3) Kevin Pietersen
4) Jonathan Trott
5) Ravi Bopara
6) Ben Stokes
7) Jonny Bairstow
8) Tim Bresnan
9) Graeme Swann
10) Steve Finn
11) James Anderson
Anderson- 10 overs
Bresnan- 10 overs
Finn- 10 overs
Swann- 10 overs
Stokes- 6 overs
KP- 2 overs
Bopara- 2 overs

Both Woakes and Harris bowl medium pace. They bowl line and length. They are more of Test bowlers.

But Meaker is very inconsistent and Dernbach is a better one day bowler
Can I ask why you hate Jade so much Shanky?

Re: England ODI side in India?
His economy rate in List A cricket after 78 matches is 6.2
His ODI Economy rate is even worse.
I think he is a really good T20 bowler and he would be the first seamer that I would pick in our side in T20.Even better than Broad but I dont think Jade is good enough to bowl in the middle overs of an ODI as he bowls far too many slower overs and can be easily milked around for 6 to 7 runs an over.He takes wickets only when the batsmen are slogging at the death thereby improving his average.
Thats why,he is perfect for T20,but ODIs might be too long for him.
I would love to be proved wrong though.

Re: England ODI side in India?
He can bowl quick though, so I don't see why he doesn't bowl "normally" in the middle overs and bring out his slower balls during the death.
Re: England ODI side in India?
dernbach should be in the odi side, but i do agree with robbo, he can bowl 90mph he should do it mor reguarly.

Re: England ODI side in India?
oh deary me.
what a wake up call this is.
Some of these kids are far from ready looking at this.
Windies deserve this, they got the lowest total ever on this ground and yet are doing to get england out for less.
brings back shades of 09, windies are pretty poor but we collapse to them regardless.
so.. prepare turning wicket, get humiliated on it. does not bode well for the tour to India. I think some senior guys might just have to come back. Real shame to tarnish a brilliant summer like this. The kids losing is fine but collapsing to another shocker to the Windies isn't.

Great carrion and a surprising end to the season. I hope we've learned something from this mini series in advance of the next adventure.

To be fair I doubt if the senior players were playing we would of collapsed like this.
Agree on the young players though.

Re: England ODI side in India?
No I don't think we would have. Solidity has been the real feature of the last couple of years. It's youngsters, nerves, lack of experience.
It'll do them good to learn, shame for the fans though.

Re: England ODI side in India?
I feel sad though to see young kids who've looked so good make such a mess of it.
Even Butler might have blown his chance now.
Not good at all. I know the windies haven't stripped down to kids to the extent eng have but they are still not great. The other day showed us that.
These kids need lots of work to give Eng more depth.

Re: England ODI side in India?
When looking at respective T20 averages/strike rates and highest scores it surprises me that Stokes was given a go ahead of Jason Roy who has a 100 and numerous 50's to his name already in the format. OK so Stokes actually did well tonight and Roy might have struggled on this pitch but in principle I find it a bit strange that he is rated more highly.

oh dear.. shambles.
Swann will be a short term captain methinks.
India couldn't do it but windies showed that the england kids are not yet good enough when under pressure.

Re: England ODI side in India?
Shame, that's spoilt a very a good summer for us. Too many youngsters maybe played? No real experience in the line-up.
Re: England ODI side in India?
They seemed OK when it was going well the other day but today the few senior guys liks Bops just failed to turn up and the youngster bottled it.
Far too much poor running.
Oh well, as long as they learn from it. Does spoil a good summer just a tad but takes nothing from what an entirely different England achieved. Don't see many of these playing for some time yet.

england unable to chase 113 when chasing the likes of 190 against india..
losing CK early just put too much on them.

Completely different situation trebs, much more difficult to bat on this pitch tonight.

Mark Butcher not happy:
""There's an old Aussie saying 'never give a sucker an even break' - England should not have given the West Indies a sniff of a chance by asking them to bat first on a pitch taking spin in these conditions.""

True Carrot.. a worrying sign then as they will face this lots in the next 12 months as Swann said. I guess not many of these will play senior cricket to be honest.

Re: England ODI side in India?
This England management is far too experienced to discount people after one game. Maybe the youngsters nerves did get to them, but they have to be put in these pressure situations to find out what hey are made of. Disapointed for Buttler, hasn't batted all summer for England and then unluckily run out by a genius piece of fielding.

Re: England ODI side in India?
that is true. I really felt for Butler and agree, they won't learn unless you test them.
we have an awful record against the Windies in this form sadly and it continues now.

Swann cocked up - if you had asked me yesterday what they should do I'd have said bat first. Anyway thats it the season endeth. Somerset are going great guns in india and england will be there very soon. I hope flower and cook have a plan cos it looks a toughie from my view

Ah well, with such a young squad there will always be chance of the odd failure.
For those writing us off in India, don't be so stupid, do you really think that this side will be the one playing?

Re: England ODI side in India?
My god, some of you are pessimistic.
We had a bad game, it happens and we move on. It has shown some of the young guys that international cricket is challenging and hopefully they'll come back better. A knee jerk reaction of just dropping them will not solve anything.

Re: England ODI side in India?
Agree, jbd, and these are exactly the type of games that we should be playing them in in order to blood them. They're all very promising cricketers and the future of our side. Stick with them and back them to the hilt.
Re: England ODI side in India?
It was basically England A losing to West Indies A. Not full teams in so we shouldn't be too disappointed by the defeat.
Re: England ODI side in India?
we can't play all them youngesters in india, we need some experence.
nick knight made a good point last night, he said that kp dosent desrerve his place back, and if morgan was fit, kp wouldnt be there..but without morgan kp probably has to play, we need some experience in that middle order, and kp needs to give us that experience, but if morgan was fit, kp wouldnt be in the side..

Re: England ODI side in India?
KP has to play. Forget his recent ODI record, look at him in the Test series and tell me that isn't a man in serious form.
A truly world class player in all forms of the game, and he simply has to be part of the side.

kp is the first batsman i would pick for england in any format.
The guy is simply world class.
In form,he can make ANY YES ANY bowler in the world look ordinary.

Re: England ODI side in India?
At least Stokes got to bat this time.
Has England ever selected 3 keepers and 3 spinners before?
As for KP returning Knight is talking bunk. Its Bopara and Bell whos places are under threat when he and Morgan are both in the ODI side.
The kids have been given a blooding but are still just peripheral reserve players. Not many of them will tour this winter.

Re: England ODI side in India?
we also have to remeber that india had a lot of injuries, and the majoirty of them will be back in the series in india.
