England ODI side in India?
First topic message reminder :
After Englands impressive one-day series against India their next challenge is against India in India. A lot of their bid dogs will be back so this will prove to be a tough series for them. What I ask is what would you be your one-day side against India? Here's mine-
1) Alistair Cook (C)
2) Craig Kieswetter (W-K)
3) Kevin Pietersen
4) Jonathan Trott
5) Ravi Bopara
6) Ben Stokes
7) Jonny Bairstow
8) Tim Bresnan
9) Graeme Swann
10) Steve Finn
11) James Anderson
Anderson- 10 overs
Bresnan- 10 overs
Finn- 10 overs
Swann- 10 overs
Stokes- 6 overs
KP- 2 overs
Bopara- 2 overs

Re: England ODI side in India?
India will win the series 5-0 just like they did in 2008. They haven't lost a home ODI series in close to 5 years, England's bowlers rely on greentops, none of those are on offer in India.

England haven't beaten India in an ODI in India since 2006, I think the game was in Jamshedpur. England only competitive on doctored green tops.cricketfan90 wrote:We Are Number 1!!! wrote:India will win the series 5-0 just like they did in 2008. England are slowly improving as a one-day side India might win but it won't be the whitewash your thinking of.
Re: England ODI side in India?
England improving? On what evidence? Beating an under strength World Champion in India? Don't make me laugh.Liam_Main wrote:We Are Number 1!!! wrote:England haven't beaten India in an ODI in India since 2006, I think the game was in Jamshedpur. i wanted to see chris woakes in the squad, im a huge fan of his.

Re: England ODI side in India?
I like Woakes as a test match bowler. His lack of variety and line and length would cost him in one-dayers though.

to be fair, he has to be given a go, you never know he might suprise us..

Re: England ODI side in India?
I would rather have Dernbach in than Woakes and that's saying something.
Re: England ODI side in India?
Without Broad, who's not that good, England's ODI attack has no x factor.
Bresnan, Dernbach and Anderson will be cannon fodder in Asia.

Re: England ODI side in India?
Back to the topic in hand, I think Anderson may struggle the most in India. This series will really prove if he can play on dry pitches. Bresnan and Dernbach/Finn's variety and pace on the other hand could cause problems.
Re: England ODI side in India?
i think the likes of bairstow, buttler, briggs/borthwick should have been given a go in india, i think it would be good for them to get the experience.

Re: England ODI side in India?
I doubt England would of sent out both of Bairstow and Buttler. But after his innings in the last match he deserves to stake a claim.
Re: England ODI side in India?
they should get a go out there, especially buttler he is averagin around 60 in domestic one day cricket, and everytime he has played for england he hasnt got a bat lol.

Re: England ODI side in India?
I think we should go with:
1) Hales
2) Cook (c)
3) Kieswetter (wk)
4) Bairstow
5) Bopara
6) Stokes
7) Buttler
8) Bresnan
9) Swann
10) Finn
11) Dernbach
Go with youth
1) Hales
2) Cook (c)
3) Kieswetter (wk)
4) Bairstow

8) Bresnan

Re: England ODI side in India?
buttler has to play, if i was selector he would be in that squad.

I know but I wouldn't if it was up to me
Anderson should be rested and Trott could fit into the side instead of Kieswetter/Hales

They'll play Trott, but I think they will leave Anderson out. They have doen it before, in the World T20 so they are not scared of dropping him.

Re: England ODI side in India?
I think that seeing what Finn and Dernbach can do would be more beneficial than playing Anderson
Re: England ODI side in India?
I think India will win if Sehwag is fit.He will be dangerous on those pitches.

Re: England ODI side in India?
Yeah because Andersons a poor T20 bowler, he's barely been picked since. Anderson's a far better bowler in one-dayers than T20's
Re: England ODI side in India?
Liam_Main wrote:Finn over Anderson I agree. Not Dernbach though.
Dernbach is quality in t20s tho. In 50 over probably Finn over Dernbach.
English fast bowlers in order for ODI's IMO (When all fit)
1) Bresnan
2) Broad
3) Finn
4) Dernbach
5) Woakes
6) Anderson
7) James Harris
Re: England ODI side in India?
I dunno, if it is just for bowling I would have Anderson above Woakes but Woakes offers more with the bat. And no Tremlett in that list Gregers?

Re: England ODI side in India?
Maybe it would be worth to exctend KP's rest.I dont see what he would gain by scoring a few cheap runs against an ordinary attack on flat pitches.Maybe better for hales to score those runs and build confidence.

I would have-

5) Dernbach

7) Woakes
I think Harris has more to offer in one-dayers than Woakes does.
Re: England ODI side in India?
Bresnan is an ordinary ODI bowler tbh
Average of 37 and an economy of 5.3.
Hardly Englands best.

I would have Meaker over both Harris and Woakes in the shorter formats.

Re: England ODI side in India?
Woakes offers with the bat tho and Tremlett is a fairly poor limited overs bowler (The surrey contingent will back me up Im sure)
James Harris will be a awesome bowler I think, impressed me tons this year
Meaker above Dernbach, Harris and Woakes? Really?

Re: England ODI side in India?
If only the ODI white balls were made by Tiflex, then we could just pick David Masters and be the best side in the world...

Re: England ODI side in India?
Meaker has got some serious pace and can move the ball both ways.He also has a good bouncer, yorker and a slower ball.
