Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
First topic message reminder :
Week Five Results
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week Five Review
The Fights
Only three fights this week, Karl Place's opponent dropped out late on, adding to Danny Williams' withdrawal earlier in the week. In the fights that did happen, Jason Booth learned the lesson that you can't go on for ever, the younger Scott Quigg really did a job on him and his career looks to be over, certainly at super bantamweight. It comes to us all eventually. In the other fights, Donaire earned a shut-out 3 x 120-108 unanimous decision, confirming his lofty P4P ranking, and Marco Huck KO'ed his opponent in 6.
The Premiership
A fantastic week for compelling and rich, who managed to get all three fights spot on, earning himself 12 points, a big jump up the table to finish in 4th place, and of course a Predictor of the Week award.
It was the same old story for Knowsit17, the Prediction League's perennial choker once again failing to hold on to a lead when it matters, a measly 4 points drops him to a 3rd place finish. Second place went to sodhat, a case of ever the bridesmaid never the bride for our Prediction Cup runner-up.
Top of the tree though is Eyetoldyouso, our new champion claiming his title with an impressive 10 point haul. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating our new champ.
It's not all happiness and joy though, as alma, Michaels, ian_jamsie, JJJohnson and, believe it or not, Union Cane have all been relegated from the Premiership.
The Championship
School Project becomes the first Championship Champion, a nine point haul this week propelling him to the top. Dass, Jdandfries and 88Chris05 will all join him in next season's Premiership, however there is drama surrounding the fifth promotion place, with 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude tied on 29 points. They can't be separated by the Highest Weekly Score criteria, both having high-scores of 9 points, so a play-off will be required. Details below...
*Update*
The Play-Offs couldn't separate 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude, so given the exceptional circumstances, I have decided that Season 3's Premiership will have 21 places, they are both promoted.

Scoring and Rules
- I will list fights 1 - 5, this list will be definitive, when predicting please list fights in the same order.
- Predict the winner - 1 point
- - Predict the method (KO*/Pts) - 1 point
- - - Predict 'Early' or 'Late' (for KO) / 'Unanimous' or 'Majority/Split' (for Pts) - 1 point
- Get all three above correct - 1 bonus point
- Correctly predicting a draw (be it majority or even technical) will score you 10 points
- Any entries that are subsequently amended will be void.
- If a fight is cancelled, postponed, or if a fighter drops out and is replaced, that fight is then void.
- Each season will be five weeks long.
- There will be promotion and relegation between the two divisions, with the top five in the Championship replacing the bottom five in the Premiership at the end of each season.
- If at the end of the season players are level on points, the player with the highest individual weekly score will take the higher placing.
- Nobody is automatically entered into the Championship, anyone can enter, simply post your predictions to take part, using the format detailed below. You can enter at any point in the season, after all, 5 draws is 50 points which could win promotion in one week.
- If the official result of a fight is changed within one week of the fight having taken place, the new result will be applied. After one week, the result as given will stand.
- Union Cane's decision is final.
Example Entry - Please use this format :
1. Paulie Maglinaggi - KO Early

There is no mention off a TD counting as a UD.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
Yeah the rules don't seem to specify what happens in the case of a TD, so seems inconsistent to change them from when a TD counted as a KO.
I'd expect better from Union to be honest.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
The TD you are all referring to is a Technical Draw, nowhere in the old rules does it mention a Technical Decision.
Why was there no uproar over the Cunningham / Hernandez TD? If the issue had been raised then I could have done something about it, but it's too late to start moaning about it now.

A TD doesn't necessarily count as a UD, it only counts as a UD if the D is U. There is of course the possibility of the D being M or even S.

Don't lose your composure Union, you've been guilty of that in the past and it wasn't pretty. You've had a stressful week and these oiks are trying to undermine you.

I'm usually a fervant Union fan but I had always been under the impression that a TD counts as a stoppage, or in the case of 4 rounds not being completed, a draw.

No, but i'd expect them to charge the right price first time round
So Coxy is saying he would take the pear cider back to Tesco with the receipt and demand to be charged the right price. Such integrity is rare in this day and age.

Stupid question of the day. What, if anything, is the difference between a Split Decision and a majority Decision? It's been bugging me for weeks.
Please remember. There are no stupid questions, just stupid people

Majority is draw, win, win. Split is loss, win, win.

A split is when one judge has one fighter winning and the other two have the other fighter winning, a majority is when one judge has it equal and the other two have one fighter winning, and a majority draw is when two judges have it level.

Oops, that's the code from the spreadsheet (which is your finishing position last season), that shouldn't be on there. How unprofessional. I shall amend it immediately.

I see that Sean Michaels has gone for a draw with Hopkins and Dawson. I reckon this is quite a smart prediction with a good chance of coming true.

Yeah I thought the draw looked a good risk. Surprised almost noone is going for Dawson though, think he's the favourite.

I've gone for Hopkins on a SD Scott for that very reason. I actually think Dawson may well "win" the fight, but Hopkins will actually get the decision. Dawson is a pretty unglamourous fighter and I think Hopkins, in light of his recent "oldest guy to win a title" stuff, may get some preferential treatment from the judges, whether they know it or not.

I just feel that Dawson will start to loose his composure when Hopkins implements his 'tactics' and will be outhustled and out fought.
I surprised with the amount of people going for Garcia. He was lucky to get the nod over Theophane
