Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
First topic message reminder :
Week Five Results
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week Five Review
The Fights
Only three fights this week, Karl Place's opponent dropped out late on, adding to Danny Williams' withdrawal earlier in the week. In the fights that did happen, Jason Booth learned the lesson that you can't go on for ever, the younger Scott Quigg really did a job on him and his career looks to be over, certainly at super bantamweight. It comes to us all eventually. In the other fights, Donaire earned a shut-out 3 x 120-108 unanimous decision, confirming his lofty P4P ranking, and Marco Huck KO'ed his opponent in 6.
The Premiership
A fantastic week for compelling and rich, who managed to get all three fights spot on, earning himself 12 points, a big jump up the table to finish in 4th place, and of course a Predictor of the Week award.
It was the same old story for Knowsit17, the Prediction League's perennial choker once again failing to hold on to a lead when it matters, a measly 4 points drops him to a 3rd place finish. Second place went to sodhat, a case of ever the bridesmaid never the bride for our Prediction Cup runner-up.
Top of the tree though is Eyetoldyouso, our new champion claiming his title with an impressive 10 point haul. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating our new champ.
It's not all happiness and joy though, as alma, Michaels, ian_jamsie, JJJohnson and, believe it or not, Union Cane have all been relegated from the Premiership.
The Championship
School Project becomes the first Championship Champion, a nine point haul this week propelling him to the top. Dass, Jdandfries and 88Chris05 will all join him in next season's Premiership, however there is drama surrounding the fifth promotion place, with 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude tied on 29 points. They can't be separated by the Highest Weekly Score criteria, both having high-scores of 9 points, so a play-off will be required. Details below...
*Update*
The Play-Offs couldn't separate 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude, so given the exceptional circumstances, I have decided that Season 3's Premiership will have 21 places, they are both promoted.

Scoring and Rules
- I will list fights 1 - 5, this list will be definitive, when predicting please list fights in the same order.
- Predict the winner - 1 point
- - Predict the method (KO*/Pts) - 1 point
- - - Predict 'Early' or 'Late' (for KO) / 'Unanimous' or 'Majority/Split' (for Pts) - 1 point
- Get all three above correct - 1 bonus point
- Correctly predicting a draw (be it majority or even technical) will score you 10 points
- Any entries that are subsequently amended will be void.
- If a fight is cancelled, postponed, or if a fighter drops out and is replaced, that fight is then void.
- Each season will be five weeks long.
- There will be promotion and relegation between the two divisions, with the top five in the Championship replacing the bottom five in the Premiership at the end of each season.
- If at the end of the season players are level on points, the player with the highest individual weekly score will take the higher placing.
- Nobody is automatically entered into the Championship, anyone can enter, simply post your predictions to take part, using the format detailed below. You can enter at any point in the season, after all, 5 draws is 50 points which could win promotion in one week.
- If the official result of a fight is changed within one week of the fight having taken place, the new result will be applied. After one week, the result as given will stand.

Danny has fought four times this year, three in Germany, once in Sweden, losing once, winning the other three. Incredible!! His weight was also stable over the last two fights at around 240 after having gone up to 290 at one stage. It passed me by until I looked him on boxing rec to check when Derek Chisora beat him, as I thought that was his last fight.
Having said the above, I can only see one winner here and it's not Williams unfortunately. However, I would love to be proven wrong.

There was one kid a couple of years below me, kicking the football onto the roof meant he deserved it.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
I appreciate your efforts Tino.
I had an idea at the weekend, with regards to developing the Prediction League for Season 3.
How about if the Premiership is run on a 'versus' basis rather than an 'every man for himself' basis?
What I mean is that we would have fixtures every week, so in week one we have Tino v. rowley, coxy v. PBF etc, with scores done in the same way as the earlier knockout competition. It would take 38 weeks to complete though, so is perhaps a bad idea. Alternatively, we could have 5 'groups' of four players, and do it in a kind of Champions League style with group stages and then a knockout stage afterwards. That's also very complicated. I'll leave things as they are I think.
I could do the 'Champions League' idea separately using Wednesday fights, if the interest is there.
Forgive me, I'm rambling...

5 week seasons are fine
Don't dilute it with midweek nonsense, half the fights get cancelled

I like the "versus" aspect to these things Union. Not sure how you would administer it, but we don't want your league becoming stale. You should try something to keep the interest going. Some people take it very seriously (rovvley) and it would add another dimension. More work for you, but you don't appear to have a job so you should be able to manage it.
Then again, I am not 100% sure I even understood your post.

Since you're clearly hopeless in the current format stands to reason you'd be in favour of a change.

Union, ignore Tino. Shouldn't take opinions from someone who's going to get relegated.
As runner up and current top 6 predictor can i just say the format doesn't need tweaking.

What is your problem this morning Coxy. You are in danger of being as obnoxious as rovvley, and that takes some effort.
Union, you do whatever you feel is right, my friend. No doubt people will moan whatever you do. Not me though, I will stand by your decision.

In theory, if you made the premiership more elite and down to 8 or 10 predictors each season, and then divisions below that similar sizes, you could have 8/10 week seasons of playing everyone once. That would require a lot of work on your part though...

I appreciate the support Tino, you are the Clegg, if you will, to my Cameron. The Steele, as it were, to my Owen. The Hattersley, if you would, to my Kinnock.
I will leave things as they are.

That's a great idea, but I think it would be too much work, even for me.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
Union you should change it back to 12 weeks...weak minded people like coxy need the shorter version.
I mean in week 12 we had 9 fights compare that to only 17 in 4 weeks with one week left...This format does not suggest who is the best predictor anyone can fluke it.

Sorry Truss!
You're biting more than usual Tina......
And be quiet Genius of PBF, Union has already stated those in the relegation zone aren't allowed an opinion.
12 weeks or 5 - it doesn't matter, you've been poor every week thus confirming season 1 was indeed a fluke.

Better to win the league and be in the championship then not win at all.
One win in two attempts...How many has coxy entered yet not won anything.

Seriously Tino, did you catch the bouquet at Scott and Trott's wedding or something?!

I'd rather not be known as a one hit flukey wonder who got relegated from the elite premier league.

After winning the premier league I'm after the championship title as well...Save your boasting to after the league is over otherwise you could have egg on your face again if I finish above you.

There was a lion, in the jungle, laying on the ground close to death. All the animals of the land we’re crowded around, taunting and poking fun at him. A mouse scurried atop the lion, and while dancing on his nose said ‘He can’t do anything to us now!’. The animal crowd laughed and continued to make fun of the lion.coxy0001 wrote:The genius of PBF wrote:Better to win the league and be in the championship then not win at all.

With all the energy left in his body, the lion lifted his head and said "Mock me now, but, I was a lion once."

Would have been more apt if he ate the mouse. Mind you, a talking lion. Cool!!
