Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
First topic message reminder :
Week Five Results
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week Five Review
The Fights
Only three fights this week, Karl Place's opponent dropped out late on, adding to Danny Williams' withdrawal earlier in the week. In the fights that did happen, Jason Booth learned the lesson that you can't go on for ever, the younger Scott Quigg really did a job on him and his career looks to be over, certainly at super bantamweight. It comes to us all eventually. In the other fights, Donaire earned a shut-out 3 x 120-108 unanimous decision, confirming his lofty P4P ranking, and Marco Huck KO'ed his opponent in 6.
The Premiership
A fantastic week for compelling and rich, who managed to get all three fights spot on, earning himself 12 points, a big jump up the table to finish in 4th place, and of course a Predictor of the Week award.
It was the same old story for Knowsit17, the Prediction League's perennial choker once again failing to hold on to a lead when it matters, a measly 4 points drops him to a 3rd place finish. Second place went to sodhat, a case of ever the bridesmaid never the bride for our Prediction Cup runner-up.
Top of the tree though is Eyetoldyouso, our new champion claiming his title with an impressive 10 point haul. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating our new champ.
It's not all happiness and joy though, as alma, Michaels, ian_jamsie, JJJohnson and, believe it or not, Union Cane have all been relegated from the Premiership.
The Championship
School Project becomes the first Championship Champion, a nine point haul this week propelling him to the top. Dass, Jdandfries and 88Chris05 will all join him in next season's Premiership, however there is drama surrounding the fifth promotion place, with 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude tied on 29 points. They can't be separated by the Highest Weekly Score criteria, both having high-scores of 9 points, so a play-off will be required. Details below...
*Update*
The Play-Offs couldn't separate 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude, so given the exceptional circumstances, I have decided that Season 3's Premiership will have 21 places, they are both promoted.

Scoring and Rules
- I will list fights 1 - 5, this list will be definitive, when predicting please list fights in the same order.
- Predict the winner - 1 point
- - Predict the method (KO*/Pts) - 1 point
- - - Predict 'Early' or 'Late' (for KO) / 'Unanimous' or 'Majority/Split' (for Pts) - 1 point
- Get all three above correct - 1 bonus point
- Correctly predicting a draw (be it majority or even technical) will score you 10 points
- Any entries that are subsequently amended will be void.
- If a fight is cancelled, postponed, or if a fighter drops out and is replaced, that fight is then void.
- Each season will be five weeks long.
- There will be promotion and relegation between the two divisions, with the top five in the Championship replacing the bottom five in the Premiership at the end of each season.
- If at the end of the season players are level on points, the player with the highest individual weekly score will take the higher placing.
- Nobody is automatically entered into the Championship, anyone can enter, simply post your predictions to take part, using the format detailed below. You can enter at any point in the season, after all, 5 draws is 50 points which could win promotion in one week.
- If the official result of a fight is changed within one week of the fight having taken place, the new result will be applied. After one week, the result as given will stand.
- Union Cane's decision is final.
Example Entry - Please use this format :
1. Paulie Maglinaggi - KO Early

Yes he did, although he predicted a Bernard Hopkins Draw so I missed it, I'm up to my arse and getting irked now. I will update again, bellchees moves up to 2nd, and then I will be logging off and having a lie down.

Can we take the crap elsewhere, I've only got 5 pages left as I'd like to keep this season all in the same thread.
Thanks.

Do you think Union will internally combust if I point out I should have been predictor of the week as well? I may keep quiet about it.....

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
No, i will not let this pass.
Since when did the WBC have control over results?
Boxrec hasn't changed because the commission haven't changed the result fo the match. It's not rocket science is it now?
Or are we not going by what boxrec states? I think you should've given the win to Bellew as well Union, i mean he thought he won the fight so therefore you should take his completely unofficial statement on board and award points to everyone who picked Bellew.... Oh WAIT! Boxrec states he lost! Silly me!
And Scott, i'll be pounding away later on some hot bit of skirt so don't worry

Would the thread starter make the correct decison? One that is based on the official commissions decision and the official results website? All i'm asking is that he looks at official bloody things rather than bloody amending the sodding results based on an organisation that has zero control over a fighters career record by altering results of fights.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
Listen, I'm in a foul mood, I had a road-rage incident this morning with a bloke in a Kia Picanto who thought he was driving a BMW, he cut me up twice, the second time at 95mph, I gestured for him to pull into the next lay-by with me because my blood was up and I would have happily smashed him in the frigging face, but he bottled it, preferring to give me the V's and drive off. Kia Picanto for fluff's sake. It was kind of his gran to lend him it, but he should treat it better than that. Anyway, that wound me right up, then all this kerfuffle on here, and I'm busy as me arse at work as well. Your co-operation would be appreciated at this difficult time.

I'll ruddy co-operate when you abide by official decisions rather than making it up as you go along based on 100% unofficial statements and results.

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
Why the hell have I got a point deducted?...I picked Dawson and the result still stands.
Makes a mockery of the league and the winner...only 21 fights and the highest score is 32 compared to my 116 divide it by 2 equals 58...give it one more week and still no one would get near by score of 58...It's a disgrace
First changing the rules like TD counts as a decision instead of a knockout without telling anyone now this.
Just because your bottom Union dont take it out on me....You should respectfully change it back to how it was yesterday.

I agree with the above
Utter shambles, and he's taking the statement from the WBC as opposed to the commission... check boxrec GofPBF - result hasn't changed as the WBC isn't official.

If your only doing 5 fights, why not have one in reserve or make it 10?

Just ignore coxy and PBF. They'll eventually turn on each other.

Totalled my Astra, sporty hatchback
Never professed to having a flashy car, only use it to get around so don't see much point having an expensive motor sat on the driveway losing money as each minute passes when i barely use it.
Do fancy getting a 2nd hand 350Z as they're cheap as anything now the 370Z's out... pic below for the uneducated:

Time to get back on topic, methinks.
Take the other stuff to ' Trash talk,' if you'd be good enough. That's why the sub forum is there.

I'm sure he recognizes that yours are legitimate arguments, coxy, and I'm equally sure that, with five pages left till lockdown, he'd rather get back on topic.

So many people taking it so seriously...
I don't understand how you can apply tactics to a prediction league. You have five fights, predict who you think will win and how, then you get points. They are the only tactics.
Don't worry Union me, rowley and Tino are still behind you. I don't want to upset you in case I ever share the road with you and you stove my face in.

He's made the decision based on what the WBC have said. And we all know how much of a joke they are.
What happens if/when the California State Athletic Commission rule that the fight is a NC on Dec 13th? Will Union then amend the table to suit? They're the official voice on this so he absolute must amend, shouldn't he?

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
Ok, after a period of reflection I now realise that I leapt before I looked with regard to the result of the Dawson / Hopkins fight.
The WBC have declared that Hopkins is still their champion, but this does not alter the official result of the fight, which was Dawson W TKO2 (EKO).
Apologies for all the messing about, I will put the table back to how it should be shortly, once I have stopped crying and caught up with my work.
Sincere apologies to Michaels and bellchees, who have had their hopes raised and then cruelly dashed by my ineptitude.
Hopefully we can now stop the bickering and move on, and next week salute our new champion, whoever he may be.

As a person who picked Dawson and therefore lost a point as well, I would like to say I fully support Union's decision. As has been said, unprecedented and therefore required a decision to be made. Union has made it. Now respect it.

Good move Union
Apologies for winding you up (it has made this morning fly by though so thank you), their decision is due on Dec 13th but alas that's too much waiting around as we'll be into a new season.
Tina, up yours

I picked Hopkins, i was on a crusade for fairness.
Be interesting if the commission do leave the result as it is though.. (which they won't) As you'll have the WBC overturning the result unofficially and the commission keeping the result the same officially...
Still, good luck for this weekends fights. Having gone a bit left field with my picks i've now just realised there is a chance i can relegated.... Poop
