Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
First topic message reminder :
Week Five Results
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week Five Review
The Fights
Only three fights this week, Karl Place's opponent dropped out late on, adding to Danny Williams' withdrawal earlier in the week. In the fights that did happen, Jason Booth learned the lesson that you can't go on for ever, the younger Scott Quigg really did a job on him and his career looks to be over, certainly at super bantamweight. It comes to us all eventually. In the other fights, Donaire earned a shut-out 3 x 120-108 unanimous decision, confirming his lofty P4P ranking, and Marco Huck KO'ed his opponent in 6.
The Premiership
A fantastic week for compelling and rich, who managed to get all three fights spot on, earning himself 12 points, a big jump up the table to finish in 4th place, and of course a Predictor of the Week award.
It was the same old story for Knowsit17, the Prediction League's perennial choker once again failing to hold on to a lead when it matters, a measly 4 points drops him to a 3rd place finish. Second place went to sodhat, a case of ever the bridesmaid never the bride for our Prediction Cup runner-up.
Top of the tree though is Eyetoldyouso, our new champion claiming his title with an impressive 10 point haul. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating our new champ.
It's not all happiness and joy though, as alma, Michaels, ian_jamsie, JJJohnson and, believe it or not, Union Cane have all been relegated from the Premiership.
The Championship
School Project becomes the first Championship Champion, a nine point haul this week propelling him to the top. Dass, Jdandfries and 88Chris05 will all join him in next season's Premiership, however there is drama surrounding the fifth promotion place, with 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude tied on 29 points. They can't be separated by the Highest Weekly Score criteria, both having high-scores of 9 points, so a play-off will be required. Details below...
*Update*
The Play-Offs couldn't separate 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude, so given the exceptional circumstances, I have decided that Season 3's Premiership will have 21 places, they are both promoted.

Scoring and Rules
- I will list fights 1 - 5, this list will be definitive, when predicting please list fights in the same order.
- Predict the winner - 1 point
- - Predict the method (KO*/Pts) - 1 point
- - - Predict 'Early' or 'Late' (for KO) / 'Unanimous' or 'Majority/Split' (for Pts) - 1 point
- Get all three above correct - 1 bonus point
- Correctly predicting a draw (be it majority or even technical) will score you 10 points
- Any entries that are subsequently amended will be void.
- If a fight is cancelled, postponed, or if a fighter drops out and is replaced, that fight is then void.
- Each season will be five weeks long.
- There will be promotion and relegation between the two divisions, with the top five in the Championship replacing the bottom five in the Premiership at the end of each season.
- If at the end of the season players are level on points, the player with the highest individual weekly score will take the higher placing.
- Nobody is automatically entered into the Championship, anyone can enter, simply post your predictions to take part, using the format detailed below. You can enter at any point in the season, after all, 5 draws is 50 points which could win promotion in one week.
- If the official result of a fight is changed within one week of the fight having taken place, the new result will be applied. After one week, the result as given will stand.
- Union Cane's decision is final.
Example Entry - Please use this format :
1. Paulie Maglinaggi - KO Early

I believe rowley's insult of choice is currently 'Bell end'.
Doesn't know what it means either, he heard some reprobate call him it and is running with it until he hears a new one
Believe it is a place in Worcestershire, why it would be an insult is anyone's guess but tend not to question the ways of young whippersnappers nowadays.

And "genius of pbf"
Am taking a bit of a risk as i need to make up some ground, naturally everything points to a points decision etc. But he does love lefties and if Dawson remains as passive as he sometimes get there is a tiny chance of the ref jumping in after BHop lands his 232903th right hand down the shute.
Still cant see a stoppage win, backing a Dawson style Jermain Taylor decision seems the better option...What are the odds for another fight being cancelled this week?
Neither can i, but again just trying to make some ground up. Only going with it because he's something silly like 10-1-0 against lefties.
And the odds for a cancelled fight are 1/20 because there's been one pretty much every week for the past 4 months.

I see you've finally (after 15 weeks) got the results done at a sensible time.
Well done Sir, don't rest on your laurels now though.

Your words will have no effect on me today Tina, you're in the relegation places, I won £40 at poker this weekend and the Stone Roses are rumoured to be reforming, life is too good to be upset by relegation fodder today.

Not to take the thread off topic again, but apparently Reni says if they're reforming it's news to him. These rumours come up again and again, I'll believe it when I see it!

Genius of PBF in the relegation zone is also reason for celebration. Just proves season 1 was a complete fluke and that his 'predicting skills' are nothing more than pure guesswork.
After this weeks fights he might've (much like TINO) found his level after getting relegated from the big boys to little boys league.

Sodhat the Sun (I know not the most reliable) are reporting today it is definitely happening, did you read Reni's comment was very ambiguous, have been following these rumours for about 15 years now and this one does seem to have a bit more substance to it, will find out tomorrow but do think it could finally be happening, am so excited.

Just read the story on The Sun, and it does seem sure about it doesn't it? If it does happen I'll be in the scramble to get some tickets, will be amazing.

I would happily sell a kidney to get a ticket, have not seen them for 20 years, think I am long overdue.

Think that's more applicable to you as you'll be moving down a league, leaving the big boys to duke it out where us proper men belong!

3 points, ouch, another shocking week, having a bad season mainly thanks to some dodgy results! And least I'm in fairly good company down there near the bottom of the league........

Union Cane is on some run 1,2 and 1 points in 3 weeks...surely a contender for predictor of the season.

Can we all move on to another thread now please?
This is for predictions only, and out of respect for Union Crane, I think we should stick to this rule.

I've had a Union this week only 2 points. One correct and even then I got shafted with the strange DeGale MD.

He could of course say that the shorter format does not suit him, preferring the race going to the one with the most stamina. Or he could happily confirm it was a fluke. Either way, he won, so there is no taking it away from him
