The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of the captains of the World Cup Quarter Finalists pictures on the bar. We've got Sam Warburton, Brian O'Driscoll, Lewis Moody, Thierry Dusautoir, John Smit, James Horwill, Felipe Contepomi and Richie McCaw.
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Lucky - done on a thread on it in the Off topic section. As licence payers, we should all make our suggestions.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
That drives me nuts Lucky.
Especially when each of the bits of the Beeb send several reporters so we'll have three from BBC news, a few from radio news, a few more from 5 live or whatever.
Surely a Beeb news journalist should be able to do a piece to camera followed by a bit for radio wothout there having to be 2 people.
Also, why do they send folks outside so often?
In this day and age do they really need someone standing outside number 10 at 11 o'clock to report on a political story when it is plain he is not going to get anything first hand?

Mrs P, it annoys me that sometimes they'll send their news anchor to present the news live from where the headline story happened / is unfolding. There's absolutely no benefit to the viewer. The story's being covered already - by the half-a-dozen reporters you mention.

Or they will have a story about traffic congestion and they will have someone present it from the side of some random road.
I think we all know what a road looks like so we could use our imaginations to set the scene without the OB expense.

I like that article, Cari. I knew all graves faced a certain direction but couldn't remember which direction! The exception is the graves of ministers, which face in the opposite direction so that, on the Second Coming, the ministers will be facing everyone else and can lead them in worship.

Rava - they're doing a segment about that on the radio now. I don't like any hot and spicey food, so I couldn't even dip the tip of my tongue in that!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
That was maddness, wasn't it.
Actually all these daft "stunt" style things to raise money for charity disturb me a bit. It always seems like some sort of money is spent in setting up the crazy stunt which might well have been better used by the charity itself.
They ones where people go off far away to do something for charity are the worst as often some company are profitting from the travel arrangements etc.
Just seems wasteful to me.

I love spicy food but there has to be flavour to it as well. If it's just heat for heat's sake I don't see the point.

MrsP - the woman on the radio (American) she was in Edinburgh anyway and just took part for a laugh, so she didn't pay to go there. She also admitted that she "wasn't smart about it". She's much better now anyway.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I meant the folks who go and cycle half way across the world or there was a group who do a hugh relay swim recently. I just wonder if the costs and risks justify the stunt sometimes.
There was another group recently who organised a hugh open water charity swim and the tide was far too strong for some people. Quite a lot of people had to be rescued and then some were unaccounted for at the end. Turned out they had sorted themselves out and gone home but the rescuers had to keep searching until their whereabouts had been confirmed.
The charity they were trying to raise money for was ....
RNLI!

Yeah it was her they interviewed, Rava. I didn't realise there was a hierarchy of curries. Learn something every day.
I see what you mean MrsP, but if they don't do something like that they won't raise any sponsorship.

I know. It's about balance I suppose.
When the RNLI one happened they interviewed some woman from some organisation set up to give advice to people organising sponsored events for charity. It just struck me that the motivation is sometimes a bit upside down.
What was wrong with a sponsored walk round the park or a sponsored fast!
I'm sounding like a grumpy old woman today, aren't I?

You should go for it, Willy. I did it last year and I found out I can't grow a moustache for toffee, let alone charity. It was thirty days of shame...

You're right balance is the key, and to be fair, the majority of these events go ahead smoothly because they're very well organised. It sounds to me like those people weren't very well organised - like checking the weather forecast!
I'm sorry Willy, I don't share the enthusiasm about Mr Jobs. I'd never heard of him before today.

Ah, that would be cheating, Willy. You have to go in to Movember unshaven - even though a few of the Wallabies on last autumn's tour cheated and started theirs early!

I'm going to do it this year again. When I was shaving recently, I did the moustache last as I normally do to see what it looks like and it looks a lot better than last year.

See, that's what I should have done! But it was all for charidee so I'm glad I did it.
I still like the idea of not shaving at all for a year just to see what I'd look like. Maybe when I retire I'll do it. Once you get to a certain age you stop caring what people think of you. That's right isn't it, Rava?

I've had a moustache since I was 16. I have a small mole? that I used to cut when shaving and it took ages for it to stop so my Mum allowed me to grow the tache.
Grew my first beard around 1977. Shaved the beard off just before my wedding (1980) and got laughed at by my (now) wife and her sister. Grew it again after the wedding and it's been there since. Colour has changed though

MrP had a beard and tash when we met.
When we had been married about 3 years he decided to shave it off on the day we went on holiday.
I would have walked past him in the street without recognising him!
It really was a shock! Our eldest was only a year old at the time and she wouldn't go to her dad at all for a couple of days!
Really strange!

Here's one for the Irish people in here. A girl I know in Uni from Northern Ireland says that Cadbury's chocolate is nicer down south than it is anywhere in UK.

My youngest sister and her husband went to Ireland recently (he has family over there) and they brought back some Cadbury's chocolate - Caramello, I think it was called. It was much sweeter than Cadbury's Caramel here and I didn't like it as much.

In spite of what Mrs. P. says that girl is right. We used to have trips across into Donegal and loved to get the Cadbury's choc. There was a far bigger selection back then as well.
