The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of pub regulars. We've got the big group pic from the HEC final in Cardiff, plus insets of ll those who couldn't make it
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

They will probably initially agree to the changes but when the money people become involved as in TV companies we will probably find that the smaller nations will have to accept a shorter turnaround or even be dropped altogether.

Hound, that just seems a wee bit conspiracy theory for me? I would imagine that the timing of the releases were (a) shortly after the journos became aware of the events, and (b) designed to sell as many papers as possible?Hound_of_Harrow wrote:As - what some of the players did was plain daft, and yes, they should know better. Their on field performances are another subject. My main point is how the press timed the release of certain stories to cause maximum disruption.
Pete - Andrew's comment about a decisiin on Johnno's future just seems typical of the RFU obfuscation we have seen so often. In no other organisation would it take so long to conduct an inquiry into what should only require some straightforward questions and answers.

Just been talking to Staggy on FB. Apparently he isn't at all busy this morning .
I wonder if there is a late rush with the Welsh Tour companies for trips to NZ
Welsh regs, I See Alain Rolland is to ref your semi final. Happy with that?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Maybe I should try pawn off my tour packages to Welsh companies. It was going to be a great trip.
Fly from Dublin to Auckland (via Heathrow).
4 Night in Auckland - go to Wales v France; Australia v New Zealand
Then travel to Taupo for 2 days of helicoptering and rafting
Head to Rotorua for another 2 days of activities
Have a tour dinner and drinks with guest speaker in Rotorua
Head back to Auckland for another 4 nights; Bronze Final; World Cup Final
Price is about £4999 incl all taxes and transport charges.

I think Alain Rolland is one of the better refs Rava. I'm happy with that.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stupid question here..
Obviously teams need hotels.. Would the teams involved in the WC have paid in advance for the hotels and booked them till the final ? they wont know how long they are going to be in the competition.

I would've thought the IRB/Sponsors had booked pre booked certain venues for the finalists because teams would still need somewhere to stay regardless of what nationality they are.

I'm happy enough with Alain Rolland, Rava. If we have been on the wrong end of his decisions before I can't remember it. Have they announced who's reffing the final?

Yeah well obviously that as well! I just thought he was being Machiavellian and I hoped the boys beat France even more to scupper his selfish little schemes.

Until my brothers and I were 4 the only English we heard was Sesame Street so we spoke with an American twang.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Don’t judge me, but after the Wales v Ireland game I was so depressed I didn’t watch any of the other quarter finals.
I did see a 2 min highlight reel of the Argentina New Zealand game. Felipe was spinning the ball on the end of his finger (metaphorically).

One of my great uncles was born in Vermont USA both his parents spoke Welsh. He was in his 50s when he first visited Wales but his Welsh was spot on accent and all. What made me smile was the way he said,,, Awn am dro yn yr automobile

Awh Mickado...I said on the other thread I wouldn't blame some fans for losing interest when their team's not in it anymore. As Max Boyce once said "Duw, it's hard".

I can understand that .
It's the difference between satisfied gloating and schadenfreude (spelling?)
At least there should be no chance of Bryce Laurence taking any further part in the tournament - purely on performance grounds

That's a point Kiwi. I was amazed at some of the decisions (or lack of them) at the break down.

No, I wasn't happy with his refereeing of our match against Samoa. Still, he is one of the better refs around so it could have been worse for us.

And another thing, can anybody tell me if Quade Cooper is a Mark Ring type of player? (i.e. talented but sometimes disinterested so he can win or lose you the game depending on his mood)

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
One of my housemates said after England's loss to France about how they will go down in the rankings after it. I just said to him, why would I give a toss about them after we've (Ireland for me) just been knocked out of the World Cup. That is the only thing that matters.
How is everyone today? I'm having to accept that fact that I'm burning the candle at both ends and I do need to remedy it now.

Wasn't Ring's career hampered by serious injuries though? Maybe that's why he lost interest.

They really hate Quade Cooper in NZ, something to do with the fact that he lived in Waikato until he was a teenager maybe?
I didn't think he did much yesterday.

Mrs Penfro - probably didn't help that the local press dubbed him Public Enemy No.1 before the tournament started. Watching the Oz/Ireland match, every time he touched the ball there was booing.

I would think Kaplan would referee the final. I think he's the most experienced ref is he not?
Mind you my mate said Barnes should get the gig if NZ got there, for the wind up value.

It has more to do with a couple of perceived cheap shots in matches I think - the elbow on McCaw in Brisbane for example. Plus there's a perception that he's getting rattled by it so it's being pushed.

I thought Quade Cooper was poor on Sunday, really poor. I'd love New Zealand to win that semi final.
Would the fact that Craig Joubert's reffing a semi final rule him out of having the final?

One for MickyT next time he's around
At the Rugby World Cup, an Englishman, a Scotsman, an Irishman, a Welshman, a Gurkha, a Latvian, a Turk, an Aussie, a German, a Yank, an Egyptian, a Japanese, a Mexican, a Spaniard, a Russian, a Pole, a Lithuanian, a Jordanian, a Kiwi, a Swede, a Finn, an Israeli, a Romanian, a Bulgarian, a Serb, a Swiss, a Greek, a Singaporean, an Italian, a Norwegian, an Argentinian, a Libyan, a Pakistani, an Indian, a Chinese, a Macedonian, a Ukrainian and an African all turned up together at a swish Wellington nightclub. The bouncer said, "Sorry, I can't let you in without a Thai."
