The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the team photos of the World Cup finalists. Or the action shots (put up especially for Cari) of McCaw, Kahui and Corey Jane.
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

That's you two off the "soup" list then!
It was the wee fella. And we won 37 v 17.
The rugby playing daughter is now a hockey/netball/basketball playing daughter. There is virtually no rugby for girls her age. Well, she could play "Tag" but where's the fun in that?

MrsP I refereed some incredible female athletes at the weekend. Quite a fair few Irish Ladies Internationals. They were excellent.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Good stuff Stag... but how did the rugby go itself?
MrsP,
I think it mad that your daughter cant play rugby at the same level as her Bro.What's the story there?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Was that "a fair few Irish ladies.." or " a few fair Irish Ladies..."?
The problem is numbers Gibbo.
The day I was down shovelling snow from the hallowed turf of Ravenhill I was talking to the Development Officer for Ladies' Rugby. She said that there is only one club around who have any Under age Lady players as young as our one. No fun if there is noone to play against. Anyway, she has the chance to try out lots of other sports for a few years and there is a more active club organisation after "Under Age".
I suspect she will just move on to other sports.
As long as, (no, not the wee skirted Scot!) she is enjoying participating in sport I'll be happy.

Confession time! (again)!
I used to think it was "The Fields of Athe and Rye!"
I didn't know what "Athe" was but I presumed it was some form of wheat!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ah Gibbo the rugby was majestic. The scoreline was 40-3 however it was probably the least accurate scoreline I have ever seen.
The winning team had one lass who scored 3 breakaway tries - absolute flyer. Like a leggy blonde Christian Cullen in his pomp. Their captain was a superb link between forwards and backs.
The other team controlled much of the match. Some bruising forwards and a lady at 12 who was the biggest woman I've ever seen. It was foolish picking her there. She butchered 2 overlaps and refused to pass. They would have scored more without her.

Stag,
I really admire your devotion to refereeing. I remember you going out in wind, rain, hail and snow - to ref schoolboys at all hours of the morn. All great experience and great for the game.

The wee fella's team has one of those. A 12 who wont pass that is, not the biggest woman....
Stag,
Really sorry to hear about N's job. Is it definately closing or could a good Christmas period change things?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Its been quiet on the refereeing front Gibbo too quiet. No big bloopers yet, no ref abuse, no yellow/red cards, very few penalties in every match. . . . I'm worried
MrsP - its not definite but fairly likely. She's tired of the hours in there anyway. Its only a 27 hour week - 5.5 hours per day except Friday. She said its so boring and would love to get out of retail. Its bothering her a lot I think.

She'd love to be involved in furniture design, interior design etc but thats a non runner at the minute. I think she'd also like something clerical. She loves stationary.
She does a class in wood carving and has started a couse with the Irish Institute of Interior Design.

It could do. The flip side is that I have a job with the chance to really progress and I'd be loath to leave it. She wouldn't want me to either. But maybe a year or two you never know. I think I'd like to for a while.

Even a conspiracy requires an act on the part of somebody, even if not you, and even if only preparatory. Deciding against a crime suggested by somebody else is not a conspiracy.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Thank you for clearing that up yer Honourship.
Yeah, I did Jury Duty in a conspiracy-trial at the Old Bailey, to rob the Nat-West in Oxford St. Guys were guilty as hell... real hoods... but the Defence was superb. Got them off on a technicality. Coppers notes were doctored/some missing and a couple of other things. Up to that point, I had never realised, that conspiracy can be an awful lot worse than actually doing it. They had 2 x sawn-off shotguns - so people could have died.
Amazing to see in action. High learning-curve for me. I was 24.
