First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the team photos of the World Cup finalists. Or the action shots (put up especially for Cari) of McCaw, Kahui and Corey Jane.

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

That was an unbelievable let-off for Wales anyway. Fair play to George North! To rip that ball away. Certain try.

Well done Aus. They deserve it, we don't. Hooks flakiness infested the first hour for us again. Mind you if it was Kiwi that made the points Huw is making we would have to agree. We haven't beaten any good sides in this tournament.

Gutted for Wales, really hoped they could win this game, but ultimately they've not quite been good enough today.

Amongst the doom of todays defeat though, they need to remember they have plenty of positives to take away, and have a fantastic core of young talent to continue to build a side around.

And that is the ball game.

This game tells us more about where we are than any of the others we've played in this tournament. There's still a distinct lack of wit and invention to our play.

How weary, stale, flat and unprofitable etc.

Still far more invention than Ireland under Kidney.

Agree Stag, i really thought pre tournament that Aus would win it, but they have not looked like getting anywhere near with any of their performances in the competition.

I think Deans made a massive mistake in not building his backs around Barnes in either the 10 or 12 shirt. Cooper looks much better at 10 for Aus with Barnes or Giteau at 12 as opposed to a basher there like McCabe or Faingaa.

That try puts my Sportsguru pick pretty close I think.

My only real comment on Wales/Ireland in this RWC is to say that had David Pocock been fit in the pool game*, today's match would have been the 1/4 final, and on Sunday the final would have been Australia vs NZ/SA.

*Note, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Ireland vs Australia match though

Totally agree stag - so much promised but so little delivered when it really counted... but we are always like that, imo.

At least we beat the Boks - but the loss to Ireland was our low-point. No team would have got within 14 of the ABs last weekend but it was still a disappointing result.

Whilst Wales will want to compete year on year in the 6 Nations, they can now build towards 2015 in the knowledge that they have

15. Halfpenny
14. North
13.
12. Roberts
11.
10. Priestland
9. Williams

1.
2.
3.
4. Charteris
5. AW Jones
6. Lydiate
7. Warburton
8. Faletau

who will be still young enough to play but 4 years more experienced. If they can develop players in the other positions to take the mantle on from the likes of Gethin and Adam particularly, then they will be there or there or thereabouts again.

2. Ken Owens
3 - Mitchell?
13 - what's wrong with Foxy? boxing Maybe Scott Williams?

dreamer, you know I am a big fan of Foxy, but from an attacking viewpoint I think there are still question marks over his partnership with Roberts, and Wales may need to look for a 13 as Roberts and Davies are really both 12's, so it may be an either/or situation for them.

Pete, Lloyd Williams gets the ball away so, so much quicker than Mike Phillips does. Yes, Phillips has scored a couple of tries, but with quicker ball tries are more likely elsewhere. Sadly I think Phillips is going to be a fixture at scrum half for a good while yet.

Gibbo, that's a fair point: before the tournament began we'd have been man sausage-a-hoop with getting this far. But then again, Hughie's point is perfectly valid, too: We're still losing games we should be looking to win.

I think he will be, Gatland obviously likes the look of him, and as I say, he doesn't like picking players who play outside Wales, so Phillips may drop off the radar for a while.

For sure if Genia is off the boil for whatever reason it affects Cooper, I just think at times he benefits from another playmaker outside of him. McCabe has been decent, but if you asked me in any side, anywhere in the world if I would have Barnes or McCabe at 12, then it would be Barnes for me every time.
