The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of newly retired Gareth 'Alfie' Thomas.
Also a special picture of Thomas Domingo and wishing him all the best on a speedy recovery.
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

The Irish equivalent of a gog would be a nordie I suppose? but that leaves people from Donegal in a stick spot because they’re from the north but not nordies as such.

I just wondered what the Irish word was Mickado, because "Gog" comes from the Welsh (Gogledd) meaning north, rather than calling them Northerners or North Walians...

Donegal people are archetypal Gogs, burning peat, slopes of 1:7 in the living room floor etc.

I've just commented about that here at work (my team hail from Northern Ireland, Germany, India and Yorkshire - we're UN corner), and the German girl commented that the Germans found a similar mistake in their accounts - to the tune of 57bn yoyos.

Catered accommodation at Penfro Towers is already booked out for RWC 2015 !! However, the garden can take 2 tents and the garage can sleep up to 6 on camp beds
Who are you expecting to do the 'catering' then? Have we acquired a chef and a cleaner when I wasn't looking then?

I just hope he hasn't said "Any time you're passing through the Valleys do drop in" to every Kiwi he's had a beer with for the last 2 months or Penfro towers might just become the "Stadium of 4 Million" come 2015

Hi all. Thanks for the birthday messages. Had a good laugh in work and going to have a few drinks on Thursday to celebrate (as well as Dragons v Blues on Friday and Wembley on Saturday of course).
Sadly my birthday evening is going to be spent writing reports. Have a good week all anyway

Where's that reported ??
There was an interesting interview with Francis Baron in tonight's Standard. He has a few things to say about the RFU, which is fully deserving of his comments imo.
Nothing much has changed, in terms of the attitude of most of the board members, since Will Carling's infamous comment 16 years ago.

Naughty
It doesn't sat anything about where he's going, it doesn't rule him out from committing to Wales full time as Gatland's replacement.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ah, my 'bookmark' for the BBC takes me straight to the RU page. It has been accepted at Wasps that SE would be leaving. But as Glas says, he hasn't said what he's going to do.
While he's loyal (and obviously enjoys working with Gatland), he is a proud Englishman and he would be interested in a full time coaching role with England. Having said that, there are a fair few vacancies to be filled/confirmed at the RFU before they get to the coaches. Changes to the current coaching team are widely anticipated though, following the ridiculous number of 'reviews' due to take place.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Crazy isn't it. Review the RWC - that's normal after any 'tour'. And it shouldn't take long
And review the running of the union itself. That might take a while longer but there should really only be 4 core considerations.
1 Produce a successful International team.
2 Ensure that talent is recognised and developed to reach item 1.
3 The development of referees to elite level.
3 Run the operation on a sound financial footing and maximise revenue opportunities. The success of 1 & 2 have a huge bearing on 4.
Note the words 'core considerations'.
There are, of course, a number of other things that any union needs to address. The amateur game and competitions being two that spring to mind.

At the moment Glas, no one. Which is why a top legal firm have been brought in to look at governance. And the union need to agree on a framework moving forward. Personally, they should get that out of the way first before Cotton et al get stuck in, otherwise they are trying to build a house on sand.

Poor result for Arsenal in the Champions League tonight. 0-0 at home with Marseille. Had enough chances to be 2 or 3 up at the break but not clinical enough.
