The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the picture of Maxime Medard* above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?
Last Pub: https://www.606v2.com/t21314-the-dew-drop-inn-virtual-rugby-pub
* While the other suggestion of Owens, Thomas and Hughie had merit, I couldn't face having Hughie's mug on the wall

We are a sad people.
Our sadness being wrapped in harps and music
And praise to God,
For the lovely, yearning light
That feeds the Spirit as well as the eyes.

No problem.
Am off out to interview a potential governor for our VI form college - normal procedure for chair and principal to do this. Unusually this guy has sent us a cv. It is, in the context of that which we are looking for, utterly jaw-dropping. Guy has stacks of REAL educational experience. For the first time since taking this position I am really nervous about meeting someone ...

What's your best? Can you beat THIS Ulsterman?

Mind you he did have to emigrate to achieve this ...

Impressive. He's the 1st non-NZer to hold that world record in over 50 years.

Glas,
The best bit is when you take new visitors to N.I. to Donegal.
It is the most northerly part of Ireland and yet you tell them you are taking them to visit "The South of Ireland"!
Good fun watching the bemused expressions on their faces!

I think Leicester. I know Ulster's form might speak against it, but it's Leicester, and it's the Heineken. I've seen them do this to teams too many times. Would love Ulster to prove me wrong though!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Well now.
Let me take some time to think that one through and decide which way I will vote!
I'll give you a hint though.
The reason I never do SG etc is that I could never bet against my Ulster. The thought of me benefitting from their loss just does not compute.
Seriously, I can see how it is a very hard one to call.
To help maybe we should look and see if they have ever met at Ravenhill before?

So you're saying Tiggers too then, MrsP? Cos you'd want to go against your team, AND you know that games pre-dinosaur era don't count (and you and I weren't around for those anyway?)

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Very very close this one. Ulster have a great home record since losing to Stade Français in November 2008. Since then they have played 10 and not been defeated. Last time they were in Ulster, Leicester got stuffed 33-0, but that was 8 years ago (and they did avenge that 47 - 9 the following week)
What do I WANT to happen, well let's look at scenarios
Ulster win, without TBP - leaves them on 18pts, Clermont 16 - Clermont win in France - job done
Ulster win, with TBP - leaves them on 19pts, Clermont 16 - Clermont have to win in France and deny Ulster any BP or win with a TBP and only give away one BP
Leicester win without TBP - leaves them on 16 and with a TBP win against Aironi gives a final total of 21. Clermont struggle
Leicester win with TBP - leaves them on 17 and with a TBP win against Aironi gives a final total of 22. Clermont out ? or at least in a bad way
So I want Ulster to win 3-0
What do I THINK will happen - Leicester win without TBP

Frantic check of emails from SG, phew, picked Ulster by 3. Xmas card list appears intact
Ulster were marginal favourites on Oddschecker. And while my policy of always* picking the bookies' favourites doesn't always come off, in the long run ...
*except for those weeks where I forget to do my picks or if I can't bookies

I've spent most of today trying to debug some code for a colleague. Only for our boss to point out in passing that there was a database problem back in September - queue the 2 of us realising that the problem wasn't the code ...

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I know it's a rule but I think it is an unfair rule.
If a lad that age wants to play for his mother's homeland then he should be able to. The fact that he played in one particular fixture for Wales U20s should not prevent it in my opinion.
The fact that he would be on the Scotland 6 Nations squad if he had played against Ireland U20s, England U20s, Italy's U 20s (if they have one) or even ScotlandU20s just makes the rule nonsensical.

If he wants to play for another country then he should not have made himself available to Wales for that particular match.
It's just the same as a young lad playing for Ireland A if he goes on the field then he is tied.

PS I'm not lost yet Gibbo, I'm still mulling over the baby oil.
I went to the quack and had all sorts of blood tests done.
After they came back he said: "So MrG, you like a drink?"
Me: "Ah yeah, once in while lïke."
Doc: "How often"
Me: "Erm, I like a drop of wine with dinner"
Doc: "A drop? What is a drop? "
Me: "Ah a bottle of red wine... or two"
Doc: Laughs "You are Irish ja? And you like rugby ja? Do you drink large amounts after games?"
Me: "NO wine, Im very fussy about that. Just pints."
He laughs again. Its was just after the RWC QF's and he says "Zo, Ierland knocked out by Wales eh? Did that hurt your liver or your heart more?"
De bollix. Eveyone's a comedian these days.
He said my liver was fine. Just needed to have 2 or 3 days in the week when I flushed it out. NO drink. Just water.
I do that anyway. Always have since I was told it by a serious whiskey-drinking Doctor way back when. And. It obviously Works!
P.S. I love you too, honey-bunny. You supply the oil and I'll supply de manpower.
